2015-2016 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know where I might find a current M1/M2 course schedule? Thanks

I don't think the actual calendar is public. A very general overview:

Classes are 8-12 (although sometimes you'll jus have 1-2 classes or even full days off)
Mandatory labs in the afternoon (M1s have Histology, Anatomy)
1 combined exam every 3 weeks (usually on Fridays or Mondays) + smaller individual exams for "non-core" classes
4 exams per term followed by 1 week of break
3 terms per school year

I feel like the interview waitlist is like a waitlist for the waitlist lol

The way I look at it, Rosalind Franklin got 12000+ applicants last year. Even if I don't get in, the interview waitlist means there is something they saw in me amongst all of those candidates, even if not one of their immediate top choices. I can improve off of that for next year if need be.

Lol it's been 17 weeks for me here and I've heard absolutely nothing

So I know Rosalind Franklin does Pass/Fail for the first 2 years but does anyone know if they do class ranks?

There is an internal rank which is used for AOA. I've heard there's a "code" used on your dean's letter indicating your rank too. (Ie - strongly recommend, recommend, etc).

have an interview coming up soon and was just curious on the format, I know it's mmi and limited on time, but do you have a chance to introduce yourself and shake hands with each interviewer or do you just go in and start right off the bat? Just trying to visualize it to prep, any help is appreciated, thanks!

Thanks! So they don't release our rank when we apply to residencies?

You have time to walk in, introduce yourself and shake. Be brief.

Thanks! Do they initiate the conversation? or do you just sit down and start talking? lol sorry, these must sound like pretty dumb questions, I just like to have a visual in mind

Can't really go into detail because of the confidentiality agreement we signed right before the MMI. They introduce themselves, you introduce yourself, shake hands, sit down and get into the question. This isn't a conversational interview so don't worry about it. Go look up MMI videos on youtube for practice scenarios.

Hi everyone, so I was placed on the interview waitlist on the 22nd. The email read, "The Admissions Committee has reviewed your appellation and is impressed with your potential to succeed in our program. At this time, however, our inter new slots are full and the committee has placed you on a list of applicants to be invited to interview should any slots become available."

Obviously, I'll take what I can get at a school that interviews 5% of 12000+ applicants. But does anybody know if the interview waitlist has potential to move or if it's just another way of saying hold? Do people tend to cancel interviews here?

I read through the RFUMS thread from last year and found no mention of the interview waitlist, just nor interviews offered until around April. So I don't have much precedent to work with. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I have a suspicion that the people last year who received late invites were on this same "interview waitlist" but the school just kept it internal instead of telling everyone. I think most schools have some version of an interview waitlist to fill the spots vacated by cancellations, but they just don't publicize it. CMS probably figures that by being transparent and telling people where they are in the process, this list can whittle itself down (by people who are no longer interested withdrawing their spots) and they'll have a better success rate at filling those late spots by people who are still interested and can travel on short notice.

If my theory is correct, then yes, it definitely does move and people do get IIs (and eventual acceptances) from the waitlist! Keeping my fingers crossed that you are one of them! :xf:

That makes a lot of sense! I hope you're right, and I hope everything works out for you as well.

this was very smart on their part because i withdrew my app as i am no longer interested. it does help them see who is still interested in the big pool of applicants

Anyone have luck rescheduling their interview to an ealier date? Do you have to cancel yours first before you can see available dates? I know there's a interview waitlist so I don't want to risk anything until I get some confirmation.
Rescheduling your interview isn't the same thing as being withdraw from consideration. Just cancel at some weird time like 4 AM and check. You can usually get your spot back if they don't offer an earlier date

I was able to reschedule mine from March 2nd to Jan 15th. I tried a few nights around 2-3 am with no luck, and then tried during an afternoon and it was available. Not sure which would be better as more people are likely to drop their slot during the daytime

Stupid of me to miss this but how did you guys submit your MCAT score reports which were due by Dec 15? I don't recall ever electronically doing so, and I went to check the list on AAMC's site to see if this school was an option and it wasn't there. Did you scan and email it? Am I too late? I have an interview in February so I'm freaking out that they might use this as a stupid technical reason to reject me...though my mcat stats are clearly on my AMCAS.

I'm almost positive if you have an interview and you took the MCAT and designated the school on your primary app and selected the send mcat scores to my schools, then they should already have it...? I'm curious as to how you were considered complete without an mcat score..? Maybe someone knows more about this though.

I finished my Mcat in 2014. I got my II in November. I'm wondering if you had to send the report through the AAMC Score Reporting System, in addition to the primary app. I guess not, since they use AMCAS? It's just their wording in the email "MCAT score report by Dec 15" had me confused about if I had to do anything outside of the primary and secondary apps.

Yeah, it's automatic if you clicked that option on your primary, and I'm sure you did. Double check amcas to make sure tho just for peace of mind. DO schools you have to specifically designate from the amcas system, FYI. I think you're solid.

Thanks, although I don't know if I will try this just in case I lose my interview for good.

On that topic, anyone have stats on how many people that interview are offered acceptances? The MSAR only has matriculant data and that seems to be out of date. I'm also worried that March/April interviews will be for waitlist spots or even spots in the next year's class.

im interested in this as well. if i had to guess, id say theyll interview 1000, accept about 200 up front, waitlist 400 and go from there, but that's just speculation. i like to think once u get an interview u have around a 50% chance of getting accepted here, but if someone has real data i would really appreciate taking a look

Thanks, at least now I know that the spots don't automatically go to the waitlisted II's, although I still don't know if I want to risk losing the interview.

There's another spot in the UI that allows for you to deny your interview, I think that's the only way you can lose it. There's not much risk to checking for another date because the whole process takes about 2 minutes max, and your old interview time will most likely stay available in that timeframe if an earlier date isn't open.

It varies somewhat, but most schools offer acceptances to twice their total number of seats. So Rosalind Franklin will likely accept ~380/1000. The danger with looking at percentages in admissions is that it is not a random process. In fact the whole process is designed to produce a completely non-random sample of students. Indeed, schools like RFU have implemented MMI to even further level the playing field by reducing interviewer bias. The point is that the best predictor of success is you - specifically, how well you compare to other applicants.

If you have an interview then your stats, ECs, etc all compare well. Now it's about how you compare in the softer skills of medicine like talking to people, navigating difficult ethical/cultural scenarios, and so forth. So person A might be interviewing the same days as person B, but because A can talk to anyone and understands people across a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, they might have a really high chance of acceptance, but person B might be really awkward and have virtually no chance.

In the end, it seems best to focus on showing the school why you are a great candidate on interview day with the knowledge that if you do that then your chances are super high regardless of the stats.

Okay, thank you! Making sure this wasn't a step I somehow missed.

I am seeing a lot of acceptances from post-interview wait-list and rarely any rejections.
Is it hopeful to say a post-interview wait-list is a good position to be in?

I forgot to post this but I got an interview invite on December 22nd. My application was marked complete on September 9th. The first date they had available was in March so I had to select that one but I kept checking to see if earlier dates opened up and now I am booked for next Friday!

So I had to wait over 3 months to get an invite so don't worry if you have not heard back from a lot of schools yet! I applied to 24 schools and I have only heard back from 12: 7 interview invites and 5 rejections!

523 MCAT 4.0 GPA. Traditional Applicant.

I hope this helps!

What an incredible MCAT score. Highest I've seen on the new one for sure. Mad props.

I have an interview coming up in February, can anyone suggest possible hotels near the campus? Also, is chicago o'hare airport the closest airport to fly into if you are OOS?

O'Hare is the closest. You can either stay in Chicago and take the metra train to Rosalind Franklin (I think they have shuttle busses to take you to campus) or maybe you can stay at the Navy Lodge right next to campus if they have a vacancy.
When is the January accepted students night?
I believe Jan 29th and 30th? I'm not 100% sure but I think those are the dates

Ohare would be closest, as for hotels I would suggest looking at tripadvisor.

Question about the interview: Is it only MMI and no traditional? Or is it a combination of the two? How long do you have to answer the MMI questions?
