2015-2016 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks for responding respectfully to my inflammatory comment that offended you guys. You did the right thing, which is to report posts you don't like to the moderators (which, of course, includes me). My apologies for those who were offended, and while I don't promise not to be snarky, I'll try to be more sensitive to your wishes not to see comments that poke fun at statements about religion regardless of my personal feelings about religion or the comments themselves.

Do you guys think there will be waitlist movement before April 30th, or will they wait until they have solidified their class to accept people?

None whatsoever
Maybe not an advantage per se, but interviewing earlier in the year probably implies that they found you more desirable to begin with, which in turn may lead to a greater chance of acceptance for someone who interviewed in January as opposed to April.

Nope. On my interview day four years ago in April, at least three people were accepted outright and attended rfu. No alternate list, no waitlist, just straight acceptance.

Well yeah, I'm not saying that it's impossible to be accepted from a late interview; obviously that happens all the time. But wouldn't you say that as an extreme example, at any given medical school, somebody that interviews in August has a better chance than someone who interviews in April?

RFU used a traditional interview format 4 years ago as opposed to MMI. In addition, the dean has also changed. Besides the fact that RFU is also interviewing a lot more applicants now than during your app cycle, there are so many other variables that indicate that RFU "may" be approaching admissions differently than what you experienced. Fair?

And when you say "nope", it implies you're dealing in absolutes. I thought only Siths deal in absolutes.

a later interview has more time/resources to prepare for the MMI
Eh, I'm not entirely sure I buy that. I think most competent people could prepare for an MMI in about a week or so.
having a later interview might not even necessarily mean you didn't have those desirable qualities of early interviewees
No, it certainly does not mean that. Obviously if a school interviews you, they see something in you and basically think you could succeed. That being said, there's a reason why most of us on here at this point interviewed in the spring rather than the fall. For me, since I didn't apply late, I think it stands to reason that they viewed the Sept/Oct/Nov interviewees as better applicants than me for whatever reason and as such I suspect most schools would give those types of applicants more lenience in their interviews and probably a better chance at acceptance. But I'm still absolutely honored to have been interviewed here and I think we'll see a lot of waitlist movement in the next month or so. @songl4a @bunchesonothing @Nextasy @pshock7 are you guys Illinois residents?

I'm not talking about any given medical school. I'm talking about RFUMS.

Yeah, it "may." But having spent the last four years here, very little has changed, including the number of late acceptances.

Yep. I ask because according to the good ole MSAR, last year 70 out of 249 ended up matriculating. Those of pretty decent odds so I think there's still a lot of reason to be hopeful!

Fair enough! You obviously know far more than me on the subject. Do you have any insight/conjectures on why it seems like so many people are getting waitlisted instead of getting direct acceptances this year?

Because you only have access to SDN and not actual data.

True. But unless they've just accepted very few people, I find it quite strange that absolutely nobody has posted an acceptance on this thread in the past three months when people have been posting waitlists en masse and a fair amount of rejections.

Yes, I am.

Does IS have an advantage? I thought since it was a private school that wasn't the case. Regardless, there is a lot of needless speculation on this thread. @bananafish94 I feel like you need to relax and focus your energy on other things. (that comment is based purely on concern for you, sir).

They will contact us when they do. Its possible some of us even get pulled a week from class starting, so who knows what will happen. Its best to just buckle down and focus on either re-applying or honing in on other aspects of our lives. I check this thread to see if anyone has received any information, but instead I see miles of unhealthy conjecture. Let's keep the thread focused. Thanks everyone.

IS pretty much always has an advantage, just to a lesser extent if it's private. But you're right...speculating on what all this means won't get me anywhere. Good luck!

Haven't heard back even though a few posts here from my date and after have already heard back.

Also, for some people conjecture is a form of coping or keeping sane.
Huh! I assumed they decided on everybody on any given date at the same time. Good luck!

Yep, I'm IS as well. I think Rosalind's doing something different this cycle than they have past cycles though, so I'm not sure how much msar stats will help. Just gotta wait it out at this point.

why is everyone ganging up on @tantacles ? He's a bit gruff, but he's the one on campus who has done nothing but give frank and candid thoughts and advice. It's a shame it's not what you want to hear, but he's not telling you guys to give up, he's just providing an honest evaluation.

I should lie more and tell everyone it's sunshine and rainbows.

HEY GUYS. EVERYONE WILL GET IN. YOU'LL ALL TOTALLY GET IN.

See how nice that is? I hate that. Nice is a word I use when I can't think of anything more interesting to say about someone.

Not ganging up on him at all. I appreciate all of his posts and think he provides great information. I know the odds of getting in are not good but I really don't think it's controversial to say that it's a bit strange not to see a single person post an acceptance on sdn in three months.
