2015-2016 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are you saying that the merit scholarships are never awarded to you unless you explicitly try to "bargain" with the school yourself?

If so, why wait until the last day you can? Why not try to bargain earlier (so instead of say bargaining on April 29, why not bargain on April 1)?

No I'm not saying that at all. It depends on the availability of the money because people turn down offers on a rolling basis. I doubt most people bother to bargain.

Really itching to hear back from Wash U already, and to think they are one of the top schools that starts getting back to students the earliest :inpain:

Talked with an interviewee at a different med school yesterday who went to Wash U for undergrad...apparently it is completely true that they interview every WashU undergrad who applies, which I guess is one of the reasons they interview nearly 1000 people during an interview cycle.

I don't think this has been true for a couple years. There are former WashU undergrads in my class who had friends that applied but didn't receive an interview here.

Hm. Weird. Well at least we know they interview quite a few of them!

I read elsewhere in the post that they weren't moving quickly on updating the Dean's Certificate receipt, but has anyone who asked their institutions to send a certification around 2 months ago still not had it marked received?

I'm not sure at what point I need to worry that my school just didn't send it as compared to the delay being on WUSM's end.

I submitted mine at the beginning of September and it still isn't marked as received. When I called regarding the Certification they said I shouldn't worry because once they start processing them they will call us if they haven't received it or there's something wrong with it.

Thanks for that info! It'll keep me from being just one more person calling them about it.

Now if only they'd get it sorted by the whole November acceptance goal, that'd be stellar...

Could anyone who has interviewed here this cycle tell me what the interview day was like? I got my schedule today for Monday's interview and it looks like I have 4 interviews, including a group interview....is that how it works?

You may have one or two interviews. There is no group interview.

Weird. There are two names written down at specific times (MD and PhD) as well as a slot that says "group" and one that says "4th year medical student."

Maybe it means we're all meeting with a 4th year (or the PhD) in a group and they're talking to us about student life/the process etc.

"4th year medical student" refers to the tour led by a 4th year medical student.

The two slots with names are your actual interviews.

On my schedule I had a slot with two MDs and it turned out to be lunch. It's really rather indecipherable until you get the real schedule that morning.

Does anyone know if interviewees are allowed to use the gym in Olin Hall?

gym as in basketball court? if so I'm fairly certain yes. not a student but interviewed not too long and hooped during downtime between interviews. yes, in my dress shirt and tie (set suit to side of court)

Hi there, does anybody know the best/cheapest way to get from the airport to campus?

Anyone know when we'll hear about acceptances?
They said on interview day that it could be anytime from now until April, and that most acceptances were given out later in the cycle.

I have a few logistical questions.

If we stay in Olin Hall, do we bring our luggage with us to the interview in the morning or will we have time to head back to our rooms to pack later in the day?

Do people usually wear coats over their suits? If we bring our coats with us to the interview, do we simply take them off and place them on our chairs?

How will we know how to get from Olin Hall to the breakfast the following morning?

-If you stay in Olin Hall, check out in the morning before the interview, and the front desk will store your luggage in their office.
-I didn't find a coat to be necessary - we were not outside for very long.
-Breakfast is in Olin Hall in Reber Library, right next to the front desk. They will point it out to you when you check in.

Anyone have their Dean's Certification checked complete, yet? I think they are behind compared to the last few years, but curious because the first batch of acceptances last year came on November 20th.

Thanks for the reminder. Totes forgot to tell my Dean about it.

Mine finally got checked off this week! I asked my university to send it in mid-late September, so that might be where they are in the process.

Alternatively, it could be that they are checking them off when that student's file goes on to the committee? I interviewed in the first half of October, so it's possible it's going in that order, too.

So I guess we start hearing back tomorrow?!?!
If I had to guess, I would say we won't start hearing back tomorrow. The admissions office seems much busier and behind compared to last year.

It's one long interview that's open file (45-60 mins) plus one short closed file interview (15-20 mins)
In the interview confirmation email they sent me, there is only one interviewer. I called the office of admission and was told that they only do one interview.

Some people have 2 interviews, others have 1. It's because they're trying two different systems, and will see at the end of the cycle which one is the better one.

Uh, I see. This is an interesting experiment.

Congrat! The usual question: interview date? 🙂

My Dean's letter still hasn't been marked received...WashU, you're killing me 😛
