2015-2016 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

Do you think we can turn in the Dean's Certification to the office during our interview trip?
I would call ahead first given that they may have some policy about how they maintain the authenticity of the form (assuming it is supposed to come directly from the dean, which I'm not sure about). But the admissions office staff is quite friendly and they do try to be helpful, so just ask them if that might expedite the process.

what's with these stark differences in response time about interviews? some people hear in 5 weeks, others in 2.5 months? Urgh I know it makes no sense to evaluate different applicant's timelines, but c'mon, it does suggest something about candidacy that some individuals hear back so quickly

Anyway does WashU not send out pre-interview rejections

I don't think WashU sends out pre-interview rejections. They emailed me to let me know that my app was already reviewed (it was a follow-up to an update I had sent) and seeing that I have not received an II, I'm assuming it's a rejection. I'm not sure if they do silent holds though...

In the interview confirmation email they sent me, there is only one interviewer. I called the office of admission and was told that they only do one interview.

Well someone heard back the same day I posted this so

Do you guys think there will be more phone calls going out this week? Or will we likely have to wait until mid-late December now?

Well I'm still waiting for my Dean's Certification to be checked haha

Imho, it would be better if they required the Dean's Certificate after acceptance rather than asking all 7000+ applicants to submit it at the beginning. I can't imagine how admissions manages to handle all that paperwork, AND stay on top of things.

I definitely agree. I feel like having the Dean's Certification as a condition that needs to be met before acceptance slows things down a good amount.

Lol! Maybe we all should stick this on that survey thing we need to mail in 😛

Dumb question but does anyone who has interviewed know if we get Wifi access in Olin for the night before?

Does anybody know why they take our pictures at the beginning of the interview day?

I thought they said that if you matriculate there it will be the picture on your ID? I'm not positive but I feel like I remember hearing that.

So yeah they took the photo at the beginning of the day and it is your WashU ID photo if you matriculate.

Any others who received acceptance call not yet have a status change on the portal?

So far I think there's only been one person who has posted in this thread about getting an acceptance call.

An admissions staff member at a different school told me that if you're accepted they get the picture the MCAT testing center took right before your exam, so they want a pic to make sure it's you.

OMG

Yeah those pics are not likely to be flattering. I know I was doing my patented "I've been in a cave for 2 months without human contact and oh was I supposed to pay the water bill?" look.

Edit: Before the MCAT...not before my interview

In the acceptance packet that got mailed, they asked us to let them know within 2 weeks if we are going to accept.

Is this acceptance binding? Are we expected to commit so early in the cycle? Has anyone called Admissions office to find out?

They sent acceptance mail to you? When did you interview?

And no the acceptance is not binding!

Does everyone have two interviews? On my itinerary I only see one interview scheduled.

You're all good. Most (if not all) applicants on my date only had one formal interview. Mine lasted less than 45m.

Also they didn't email you or call you?

Do they call during business hours or is it during evenings?

It was during business hours in St. Louis, though just barely.

Anyone else still not have their deans cert checked off? I interviewed mid-late September...

One of mine was sent last Monday, and was checked off sometime today before they called me. Might we worth calling them if yours was sent a long time ago?

Did they mention scholarship money? Curious if merit $$ are those accepted first.

Nothing about money, no. Just that they would be mailing a packet with lots of info and a form to return to them.

That's pretty frustrating since I requested mine to be sent out mid-September and still haven't had mine checked off :bored:

They aren't checking off peoples' certification forms until they're ready to accept you and it doesn't keep you from being reviewed. I got a call asking me to submit a form from one of the schools I attended so they could come to a decision on my application. The other form wasn't even checked off when I got the request. They only showed up on the portal the morning I got accepted. If they don't have your form they will definitely let you know.

Not saying this isn't true, but my Dean's Certification has been checked off and I haven't received any admittance notice (and would be surprised if they have already reviewed me since I interviewed less than a week ago). Like everything else in this process, I guess it just depends.

But did they check yours off early? I got the impression they abandoned checking them off a while ago.

Even if I'm wrong which is completely possible, not having your dean's cert checked let alone not even in definitely doesn't stop you from being reviewed. I hope that's at least comforting to people.

I think you're right that there is no reason to worry, especially given your experience. Maybe it has to do with how they are sent or who receives them etc. There might be multiple people in charge of these kinds of things.

Mine was checked off in the last couple of days since I last logged in. I mailed the sealed document 2 weeks ago.

I think is true. I got an e-mail asking for mine last week, and got the phone call as soon as it was received today. Definitely gave me the impression that I had already been reviewed and they were waiting around to make sure there weren't any skeletons in the closet.

Can current students comment on the rate at which WashU accepts students? Does it start as a trickle and get faster later in the winter or is it pretty consistent? Also are Dean's cert required for acceptance?? I thought they weren't.

Acceptances trickle in fairly consistently from now until February or March. A lot of people are waitlisted at that point. Many people get accepted from the waitlist around May (myself included).

The Dean's certificate is required for a final decision.

Quick question about how wait lists work. Say I'm accepted elsewhere and I choose one school by the April 30th deadline. After April 30th I am accepted off the wait list at a school I would rather attend. How do you go about switching schools? Do you just lose the deposit for the school you originally committed to?

That's a good question. I know when I got off the waitlist here, I withdrew via email from the school I previously planned on attending. For some reason, I cannot remember if I got my deposit back or not. I might have been so excited to go here that I forgot about it. Maybe @gettheleadout remembers how it worked?

Just putting this out there - I got my Dean's cert checked off sometime last week, but I haven't even interviewed yet (scheduled for later). I mailed it myself last Monday too. So unless my interview is just a formality and they quite like me already, I doubt having it checked off means you're accepted and not having it checked off means you're not accepted.

But you do need it to be accepted, regardless.

I had mine mailed months ago (from two universities) and neither are checked off. I haven't received an interview invitation yet though.

Hey, they said at the interview that they accept "regionally".... Do we know which "region" they might be in yet from earlier acceptances? Anyone from the NE been accepted/rejected?
@Zavoevatel @ausprey @mscs2014 ??

Depends what they mean by "from". I went to school and live in NE, but my state of residence on AMCAS is elsewhere.
