2015-2016 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know by definition merit awards would be mostly based on MCAT/GPA and scholarly experiences like research, but does anyone know the specific criteria WashU uses? Curious because I've heard of other schools handing out merit awards for reasons other than scores.
I feel like I heard/read somewhere the interview has a lot to do with it?

Aren't financial aid docs, etc. separate from merit scholarship awards?
I don't remember which school it was but a few said that they only give out aid (including merit) after all of the forms are completed. I'm going to do them ASAP just in case

you don't need any financial forms for merit aid, only need based

Just got a call from Dean Ratts with an offer of full tuition!!!!
Congrats!!! Do you mind sharing approximately when you interviewed /got accepted? Curious to know if they go in any kind of order with these things 🙂

Edit: never mind lol!

For some reason this just made my day. Proud of you Fam!

Every day that people get in adds some anxiety for those of us that loved the school but haven't gotten good news. But hearing things like this is a great distraction for the rest of us, and it's awesome that we get to share your excitement about it.

...i'll go back to remembering that this has nothing to do with me now...

^ And that message made MY day. Thank you SO much, this is so incredibly kind of you 🙂 And I'm positive good news is gonna come your way also!

*at WashU.

I know Michigan, at least, said their Merit $ is not completely need-blind.

You know, I remember hearing this somewhere as well but an admin post on their facebook page says "you do not need to have a FAFSA for merit scholarships at UMMS." So I guess not?

Oh interesting. Maybe the FAFSA is not required but the "Admitted Students Needs Assessment Form" is? UMMS has quite a few steps in their FA process. Regardless, all I know for sure is that they said something along those lines on interview day. Could be that all they take into account is parental income from AMCAS.

"What can a 4.0 and 44 MCAT do for you?"

Congrats dude!!

For what it's worth, I went to a state school and don't have a either of those things 🙂

I'm super thrilled though! I withdrew from a few things yesterday and definitely breathing easier now that I don't have to panic about loans.

Does anyone have any insight on how the adcom meetings work? Do they review all the candidates that have interviewed or just those that recently interviewed? I am curious as I interviewed a few moths ago and have not heard anything yet.

What we know so far about merit scholarships:
SDNer: Date Interviewed/ Date Accepted

dtown16: Nov. 3/Nov. 19
a_borgia: Early Nov/Mid Nov
genklok: Mid-late November/Early-Mid December

I like where this suggested trend is going. 😛
Hopefully, Wash U. saves some money for us December interviewees and we hear good news soon!

I see they don't like their earlier interview dates 😳 I kid haha not the biggest sample size.

I am also curious. I interviewed in December. Hopefully we'll both hear good news soon!

October interviewee here...WashU asked for my Deans Certificate and everything 🙁 What a tease 😛

My post wasn't intended to by hyperbole. So..sorry to be rude, but that means you either:
1.) Have a 45 MCAT and 3.9
2.) I can't calculate LizzyM
3.) You aren't telling the truth somewhere

Also rejected, early September. LizzyM 84, so a bit depressed.

This is patently untrue. I have a lizzyM in the 83-84 range, and some solid ECs with underserved communities, as well as a postgrad degree, but I have yet to hear back from Sinai, Duke, NW, and others "mid-tiers". I blame a late-ish application. How much I care is a little limited as I did get admitted to WUSTL and have more high tier interviews lined up, but the assumption that good stats get you interviews, even at mid tiers, is not as safe as you imagine.

Hey for those who've gotten calls about scholarships, did you submit your financial aid information already?

Stalked last year's thread and afraid it wasn't super encouraging... some acceptances mid march, some end of march, tons of waitlists April 1st (happy april, fools!)

Did their thread seem to be as quite as this year's in terms of acceptances up to this point in the cycle (if you happened to look)?

Probably as quiet or quieter. Their total page count is at 20. Last year was the first with Dean Ratts
