Accepted!
Thank you - that's so kind of you to take the time to tell everyone wait listed. When did you finally hear from them last year?Congrats to those accepted
To those waitlisted, don't take it as a rejection
(I, too, was waitlisted last year - alongside a lot of my classmates? - and we made it)

To any current students at Cornell, I had a question about the grading system.
I read online that the preclinical classes are graded on a Pass/Marginal/Fail scale, but then numerical grades are assigned. Does this mean that, despite having the P/F system, that the preclinical years keep an internal ranking system which is then passed on during residency applications?
I don't know the answer here but I do know that even if there is some sort of ranking or reporting to residencies, preclinical grades are nowhere even close to having an impact (unless there's an F) during that application process. It's not anything like med school appsTo any current students at Cornell, I had a question about the grading system.

Ah I see, that makes sense. Thank you!MS1 here. Congrats to the accepted and good luck to those on the waitlist! It's true pass/fail. We do get our numerical grades for units and individual quizzes and we know the class averages, but they're for our information only to keep track of how we're doing, not passed on to residencies. I think they might be able to use them as a tiebreaker for AOA or a tiebreaker for clinical class rank (in terms of "top quintile", etc.) if needed, but that's it.

The marginal pass is, as far as I know, something that the administration (privately) relays to you as a "Hey, you're passing, but you barely passed. You need to be doing better"To any current students at Cornell, I had a question about the grading system.

Dear current students, could you all comment a bit on how financial aid is at Cornell? During my visit, I heard several applicants mentioning that they heard cornell gives incredible packages, and just wondering if there's any truth to that.
May 4
May 1 was the first day last cycle that people from the waitlist heard (as far as I understand)

There are internal numbers kept as a tie breaker if there is a tie from clerkship grades (which is what ranking for AOA is based on - fail/pass/high pass, I believe?), though as people from years above have said, the 'tie-breaker' has very rarely been used, so for all intents and purposes, the preclinical years are pass/fail.
Anyone get off the WL prior to May?We do true Pass/Fail. Marginal grade is given if you don't pass at first. This is replaced when you remediate the course to pass and as far as any recording goes, after you remediate it your record will show pass - no asterisk. Fail is only if you continue to fail remediations.
Alright so it's spring break and I have plenty of time on my hands so I decided to do some research/stalking using facebook group information to ascertain probability of getting off of waitlist this year for ya'll. 😀 Here's what I found.
Weill Cornell Medical College - Class of 2020 FB group currently has 104 members out of which 48 are current year applicants and not upperclassman (Doubled checked with their facebook info + 2019 class fb page). Out of the 48 members 20 members are member of either Harvard/Stanford/UCSF/JHU/UPenn/Yale 2020 fb groups (Columbia N/A). So we have 28/48 which is around 60% who are likely to stay and 40% likely to go somewhere else. In addition, out of 100 or so acceptances so for (i think?) only 48 joined the facebook group. I know that some people do not have fb but 50% absence from class size at this point should be indicative of multiple acceptances and perhaps lack of interest? Also, this is not counting similar ranked med schools with merit scholarships(Vandy/NYU/Northwestern..etc) and some students might also drop out once waitlist movement happens at top 10. So anyways I'm gonna call right now that this year might have greater percentage from waitlist (~40)? I'm probably wrong about the analysis but it's fun to speculateI wonder if ADCOMS look at fb groups hmmmm

Yup guilty as charged.this is what people mean when they talk about premed neuroticism
I really appreciate this level of stalking, but I think your analysis might be overly optimistic. I would guess that Weill Cornell gave out far more than 100 initial acceptances. Hopefully you're right, though!Alright so it's spring break and I have plenty of time on my hands so I decided to do some research/stalking using facebook group information to ascertain probability of getting off of waitlist this year for ya'll. 😀 Here's what I found.

Haha yeah you're right. I'm just gonna bank on the 60:40 ratio and lower than average fb membership for extrapolation. Let's hope!I really appreciate this level of stalking, but I think your analysis might be overly optimistic. I would guess that Weill Cornell gave out far more than 100 initial acceptances. My email from Cornell went to the spam folder. When you say you "checked the trash" I'm assuming you were checking to make sure you didn't actually delete it. Try checking the spam folder if you haven't already.Guys, I haven't heard back yet which is weird I think? I came to this thread to see if anyone else had heard. Then I checked my email again, and then the trash, and there is definitely nothing there. Is anyone else in the same position?

LOLYou never applied to Cornell. This has all just been a terrible dream.
For second look, do you guys recommend comedy club or lounge night?

This may be a stretch, but could current students comment on how accurate the COA estimates are? I know that I wouldn't need the health insurance, but are the personal, material, rent, and food costs pretty accurate? In particular, I think the personal expenses are overestimated.
Rent is pretty accurate. Olin is $743 per month (first year housing). Most people move to Lasdon after that and it's a bit more expensive because it's apartment style. I think the variable rent prices in later years account for people doing away rotations. Keep in mind the rent price includes all utilities, plus gym access, and you live next to the school.
As far as personal and food goes it varies a ton depending on your preferences. I spend maybe $10/day on food and I never cook. Some people in our class go out every weekend, some never go out but still have a great social life. Some regularly see shows/concerts, others take advantage of NYC as a playground. NYC is not much more expensive than most places when you have subsidized rent.
I sure hope so, considering NYU allots 3600 for your first yearGreat so it's totally possible to live off less than the $11k allotted for personal and food expenses?

I'm not sure why NYU is listed so cheap as their neighborhood is not any cheaper than our's. I was told Cornell (among many other schools) will purposefully list a high CoA to ensure that funding is available to students. You may be aware that GradPLUS loans are guaranteed for graduate students up to the CoA. I doubt any of my classmates actually spend $11000 per year in personal/food, but it's there if we need it and thus helps students avoid taking out private loans.I sure hope so, considering NYU allots 3600 for your first year
So.. What is the attire for second look? Whatcha guys packing?

Are there any free drinks that go along with the lounge night? My wallet is kind of hurting, and I'd prefer going to one of those 2 ticketed shows/performances if I'd have to pay Manhattan drink prices to fully enjoy lounge night 🙁
Not yet, it's been 2 weeks since I completed all my formsanyone hear back from financial aid?
Could someone post the secondary prompts? I went through the thread and couldn't find any. Thanks
I absolutely loved revisit. The school was fantastic, the staff was so nice, but the one thing I think that stood out more than anything was just the people there. Everyone was so nice, genuinely cared about you even though they just met you, was going to accomplish everything they wanted in life and more, while just remaining so calm and so chill about everything. They were an amazing group of people, and I'm not sure you can see that anywhere else to be honest.Hi everyone! I didn't attend second look since I'm on the WL but have tons of questions 🙁 can anyone share their experience? Curriculum, what is the weekly schedule like, fun stuff, student culture etc? (Happy to hear from MS1's too.)
