2016-2017 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

Hello! So there's a big group of you and there's a brief session with everyone first. You're given a nice folder with some info in it. Then you're split up into 3 groups, and everyone has a slightly different schedule. Essentially it's tour, QandA with students, and MMI (in different orders).

I can't divulge too much about the MMI as we sign a nondisclosure, but it did seem a bit more laid back.

Hope that helps, pm me if you have questions!! 🙂

So how long does the interview day last? I signed up for an afternoon slot, so I'm assuming no more than 3-4 hours, right?

Yea they literally are taking so long to get stuff done. I honestly feel bad for them

I was complete 2 months ago and am just now getting an under review update? That's bizarre. 🙂

I have an interview at RFU next friday and was hoping that anyone that interviewed there earlier this month could shed some light on what the interview day was like. Pro's, Con's, impressions of the school, etc....

Hey guys, I have a quick question about the admissions requirements (I called the office and left a message but haven't heard back). My school did not offer two semester introductory biology courses. I took one semester of Intro to Zoology with lab (5 credit hours). I have also taken Microbiology (with lab), Cell Bio, and Molecular Bio. Would the Microbio with Lab count for the Intro Bio Part II with Lab requirement?

Still not complete. Submitted 7/23. I called ~3 weeks ago and they gave me the same answer they have given everyone else - there are ass loads of apps to review so just wait. It did take calling 3 different times to get someone on the phone, so if you don't get through the first few times, don't get discouraged. On that same note, if you are like me, and called with a tiny, naive glimmer of hope, thinking you may get a different answer as to why you have not yet received a complete email, dont be discouraged when your little glimmer is snuffed and they tell you the same thing.

Can you please discuss what the interview session was like. Is there a tour? How is it structured? How long is the entire thing? What were the MMIs like? Any advice?

The best advice I can give you is not to stress. If you are offered an interview, it's because you look like someone who may be a good fit for the school. While you're there, it's their goal to determine whether that is truly the case, and it should be your goal to determine whether or not you feel YOU would be happy at the school. That's why the actual interview is only one small portion of a larger interview day. Interviews are not there to attack you or make you feel stupid or inadequate - they are just a means of seeing whether your values and experiences line up with the school's mission.

I'm sure you're fine. Multiple upper div bio courses should fulfill any biology requirement they have.

I was just released from EDP for another school, does anyone know if this is too late in the game to be submitting primaries?

It is always late at this point to be submitting primaries; however, you never know until you try.

I am interviewing on 10/7. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips for traveling there. Are you guys flying into O'Hare and taking a shuttle to North Chicago to stay the night there?

I interviewed here on the 9th. Stayed at the Days Inn (I'd give it a 2/5 stars). I flew into O'hare the day before and made the mistake of taking a cab from the airport to Lake Bluff ($125 cab ride). I don't know much about the shuttle, but if it's a cheaper alternative then you should take it. I would also recommend taking Uber (a $70 ride). Without traffic, it's a 30-45 minute ride from the airport to the school.

I'm interviewing with the afternoon group on 9/30 and have a late flight out of O'Hare that night. I'm renting a car, so if anyone wants a ride to the airport after the afternoon interviews let me know.

I'd offer to help on the way in, but I'm landing in O'Hare at like 9 the night prior and staying at an AirBNB in between there and North Chicago.

I'll be flying in Thursday night to O'Hare on 10/6 around 9pm for an afternoon interview the following day. If anyone wants to split an uber to a hotel near campus, feel free to message me.

Anyone flying in on 9/29 around 8-9 pm and trying to split an Uber from O'Hare to Rosalind? I would rather not drop $70 on one by myself lol

Thought I'd help out! I'm a current M1 at RFUMS. If you take Uber pool from O'hare to Rosalind Franklin Area it is around 34$. Much better than a 125$ taxi fee. There is also a flat rate fee of $45 dollars (don't quote me on that exact number) from O'hare to RFUMS with American Taxi. Hope that helps!

I submitted my secondary on Aug 21st and I do not recall getting any complete email so far, is there any online portal to check the status?

Nope. I submitted 8/23 and no complete email either.

Secondary submitted 7/24 finally got the complete email this morning (9/29), if anyone is wondering!

Just got a complete email and submitted July 27th (had rec letters assigned before then too). Just wondering, is this normal? Because then it says it could take another 8-10 weeks to hear an update in status...lol

I think it's normal. Looks like everyone who submitted that day got a complete email today. They are just flooded with a lot of applications!

Haha thanks for the response! Guess it is somewhat normal (albeit pretty late) after reading the past few pages of the thread. I thought it was either a rejection or interview invite email at first glance of my inbox (haven't been following all my school threads), and then I was puzzled to find that it was a complete email.

I submitted around 7/26 or 7/27, just received my complete email today, and I am so excited to hear back from this school! How long has it been taking ya'll on average from completion date until hearing back?

Hi everyone,

I hope some people can either elevate my concerns here or offer guidance. So I submitted my secondary sometime around 7/15/16 (give or take a couple days). I then received the confirmation email that they received my secondary materials. Following that email I received a second email telling me to "disregard the previous email" if I did not submit my secondary application and that they look forward to receiving my secondary materials. I reached out to their admissions office out of concern that they didn't receive me material due to the second email. They responded with a email that kinda disregarded my concern and the situation of receiving the confirmation email, then getting a second email that stated they may or may not have received the secondary material. They told me they were backlogged on emails (which I can completely relate to and understand) and that I would receive an email when they got my secondary material. Did this happen to anyone else?

Also has anyone OOS received an II (or rejection?) from close to 7/15??

Take care everyone, (and good luck!)

Ian

Thanks to everyone that got back to me. Just an update. So after getting the original email, which said they would get back to me in two weeks, they finally responded (2.5 months later). There most recent email said they would get back to me in another 8-10 weeks haha.

Whoever is in charge here clearly wants anyone with a pulse to submit a secondary and make just about as much money as possible. Out of the 20 secondaries I sent out, Rosalind was one of the most expensive. Sure if they screen out applicants pre-secondary they make less money but at least they wouldn't be so backlogged.

Most of the schools I sent apps to didn't screen pre-secondary. I agree with ya though, they are pricy. I'm not sure their backlog if due to them pushing secondaries. Their overall primary apps pushed 16000 last year. More primaries probably results in more secondaries. And honestly, I see tons of people on this site get recommended to apply here due to them being at least somewhat understanding of academic record blemishes. People send secondaries where they think they have their greatest chances of success. I'd be more inclined to think that's why this school has so many applicants and may seem behind.

Received it on 8/25 and silence here!
Hey I received the same email on the same day. Do you mind sharing your stats to see if I am in the right neighborhood for an II. My Lizzy M is 72 and I completed on 7/30. Thanks!

Email acknowledging completion of secondary on 07/29. Just received complete email today lol
