2016-2017 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

Congrats to the IIs! Are you guys IS or OOS?
OOS, from the West Coast. It appears this might be there first batch of interview invites. Anyone knows how many people they interview and the acceptance rate for those invited?

On MSAR, they invited 694 OOS applicants and 115 matriculated. I would assume that 2x the number of matriculated applicants were accepted. Using this assumption, 230 OOS applicants were accepted. You have about a 33% chance of being accepted.

I'd say it's closer to 2.5-3x, from what I've seen

They did A LOT of waitlisting and then pulling from it last year. So, if anyone gets a waitlist here, it's definitely not a death sentence.

It also appears that it takes them forever to get back to those that interviewed, at least 2 months...

It's definitely closer to 50% for most schools. There was a post on reddit about the USNWR numbers of interviewed --> acceptances and I was shocked how high it was for most schools.

It makes sense to me. No wonder schools don't post their matriculation rates.

The largest applicant slashes come pre-interview. I feel like that makes sense though. And since people apply to multiple schools and an attractive applicant to one is likely to be attractive to another. I don't feel like that's anything that needs to be hidden or that schools need to be embarrassed about.

They do post their matriculation rates, but do not post acceptances. Knowing how many applicants a school accepted doesn't tell you much about your chances. There always will be those outliers with stellar stats who apply to Xsom as a safety school, but have no intentions of going there. Then there will be the applicant who goes out and gets a criminal charge and has to forgo the acceptance. Last year, there was about 1100 applicants who either deferred or withdrew for whatever reasons. You are not competing with other applicants for the same seat, so just do your best and try to standout from the applicant pool.

I feel like the other poster was getting at how many matriculate out of how many were actually accepted. I could be wrong. In theory, unless something goes horribly wrong at the wrong time, a school knows exactly how many students will matriculate, as the schools are generally good at finding someone, even last minute, to fill a vacancy . And often have a fixed or close to it, number of seats.

Exactly. The only disaster that I know about was with Touro.

But honestly, if a school receives 12000 apps, even if they interview 1000 and accept the majority(lets say 600) of them in order to fill 200 seats... I'm still super thrilled... and personally still feel like the process is selective enough to suit my ego... if I had such concerns.... which, I don't. Honesty, I'm still thrilled if they accept everyone they interview and I'm amongst them. But, that's me. heh.

I am happy that I made it this far. Out of thousands of applicants they chose me for an interview; however, the MMI is a s***show and I am not going to count my chickens before they hatch.

I know it's kind of odd, but since I'm not a small-talk kind of person, I kind of dig the MMI format.

Have you done it before? It can either make you or break you.

I did, at RFUMS. Last year. Waitlisted. Aaaaaaaand, I'm back at it this year.

If I'm being honest, going the MD route is a bit of a stretch for me due to stats/personal history, but not impossible... I lived last year's cycle and think I learned plenty. Hopefully fixed plenty. This year applying MD and DO.

So did they ask any personal questions during the interview? (e.g. tell me about yourself?) or is it strictly MMIs?

Current CMS students: What do you love about Rosalind? What makes it unique as compared to other schools?

Alternatively, what do you dislike about CMS and what would you wish would change?

I want to get to know the good and bad about the schools I am applying to.

anyone know of specifics for dress code? just business casual is fine right? some places don't like ties/jackets etc so I was just making sure Rosalind isn't like that.

I think so. Hoping they send us an email with specifics this week..

I don't know if it was just everyone that interviewed on the day I did, but last year everyone I saw wore a suit with a jacket.

I would assume formal unless they specifically tell you. The only one I know that wants business casual is UPenn

Does this school send any sort of e-mail confirming that your file is complete? I submitted my secondary on 7/18 and have had nothing but silence from them.

Yes they do. I received one August 11 and submitted July 19th. Been nothing but crickets since then...
But anyway, check your spam. If not there, Id give them a call.

Hey all, I submitted my secondary on July 16th, and received the "2-week" email on July 22nd, but I haven't received the complete email yet. Should I call/email the office?
FYI, I finally received the complete email on 9/2! Now the real waiting game begins! Sigh...

I've answered this question a few times in PMs, here's something I sent to someone:

The #1 thing I enjoy is the community and family feeling of CMS. I study with a good group of students on the weekends and have gotten very close with them. But that's not to say that I'm exclusive to that one group either. I feel comfortable reaching out to any of my classmates whether that's in extracurriculars or mandatory group sessions. Another aspect I enjoy is the Interprofessionalism. I realize that's a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot, but if you really want, you can get really get to know the other students from other schools. I have good friends that are PA's, Path Assistants, etc and its really changed my perspective on their training and respective careers. Of course, if you want nothing to do with Interprofessionalism, that's manageable too (besides the one required course in M1 year that's mandatory).

Also the faculty is fantastic. They are receptive to any concerns we have and actually implement change. One example was recorded lectures were taking too long to be put up. They hired an AV person to make sure they are up by noon everyday. The school is constantly changing and renovating. A few of the professors are authors of well known review books: Dr. Snyder for BRS Pathology, Dr. Glucksman for BRS Biochemistry, and Dr. Hill does STEP2 Kaplan lectures. The quality of lecturers have a huge range with some being absolutely phenomenal and others being complete trash.

As for clinical experiences, I have yet to experience a severely malignant attending or resident. Although, some are better than others - teach more or are more friendly. For example, on one of my rotations, I was able to completely work up patients on my own, develop a plan, and place orders. Of course this was all supervised with the resident checking over my work, but it was nice having a feeling of being independent and actually being a doctor.

Cons - I absolutely hate mandatory classes or events. There are a handful during the preclinical years (small group sessions, demonstrations, etc). Although, I'm sure that all schools have their own range of mandatory stuff.

Feel free to PM if you've got specific questions

Sorry if you already answered this somewhere but how was the process in getting rotations? Were you able to find good hospitals/clinics fairly easily?

There are multiple sites for each core rotation (surgery, medicine, etc) that you rank. The algorithm tries to get each student their highest rankings. There's zero problems getting clinical sites. The farthest site people have to travel is in WI (for family medicine) and Centegra (NE Illinois), however they added a voluntary rotational site in Minnesota (I think - I might be wrong on the location). Most people do end up in Chicago or within its suburbs.

II just now. Lizzy M 65-67. OOS. Complete 7/14

The only available interview is this Friday??
There was supposed to be a Sept 30th slot, but I think they either took it down or it's all booked.

I don't know if they ever offered it! I checked almost daily and never saw it as an option.

Anyone with an interview Friday get anything other than confirmation of your interview? There's no itinerary or info or anything right?
