I interviewed with them this week. My only research was a senior research project in the humanities.

I interviewed recently, and no I didn't have a lot of research exp or any pubs

This is some at least somewhat comforting despite the fact that it's already December and haven't received an interview yet from tufts. I won't keep my hopes up though. Thanks!

It's less likely, but don't lose all hope! I thought I was done, and received an II to a highly ranked school this week. It ain't over until you're rejected 🙂

On a side note, I was wondering this myself. What are the "rankings" even based on? And when people say highly ranked do they mean on US NWR? Because usually there are 2 rankings per school on that. Should those be factored into where I decide to go in any way? Or is it just exclusively step scores and personal matters that should be factored into that decision?

It is what is important to you. I'm a firm believer that Step 1 scores and match statistics are incredibly important, but I don't want to go to a school where the students are cutthroat and anxious. You can also factor in ability to do research, global health programs, and geographic location. You should choose the school that makes you feel the most at home!

Unsure what exactly they're based on, but IMO it should only factor in to a certain extent. Highly ranked schools generally have better rotations and match rates, and can help you match into a more competitive specialty if that's what you're shooting for. However, I have so far interviewed at my state school and a top 20, and, while it was clear that the better ranked school had much greater access to resources, programs, opportunities, etc., I ultimately preferred my state school. I'm not withdrawing from the other school, though–they tend to give out a lot of financial aid, and that will factor in for me as well. I'll need to look at Step 1 and match stats as well–hadn't really thought about that.

lucky for me I've had several other schools like my app more than my state school does, so I will have to pay a billion dollars no matter which school I choose. Makes the decision easier....

Not many at my interview day seemed to have done a ton of research. A couple were grad students (research req) but most had more of a def service slant to their apps. Then again, it was a Maine Track interview. I wouldn't sweat it if you don't have a bunch of lab experience... everyone's app is different and I am sure you have other area's of your app that absolutely dwarf mine. Hang in there!

One on one with two faculty members. Laasts about 30 min each from what I remember

"Ranking" is based on you personally and what you're looking for in a med school. USNWR uses only two rankings, research and primary care, which really say nothing more than how much funding the school receives from the NIH.

STEP score and Match List can be helpful but also a red herring. A "Top 20" school may have a higher average STEP I, but is that due to the curriculum or is that because they tend to matriculate a higher caliber of student who is predisposed to score better? Match should only really be used if you know from the start a specific specialty or geographical region you want to practice in. Other than that, unless you wade through the weeds of trying to rank the thousands of different residency programs, you're really just chasing your own tail. The M'16 class at Tufts Matched everywhere from Optho at Harvard and Plastics at UCSF to Psych at University of Utah and Ortho at VCU... and there were still 196 other matches. I'm really not sure how to digest that info. But as a student, I can tell you that the student body, faculty and staff are extremely supportive and during weeks like this where it feels like we've lived in lab, I'm glad I'm here.
 
Rejected post-interview via the application portal; strangely I did not get an email. I am sad because it is nice to be wanted, but I wouldn't have picked TUSM over other places I've been accepted, so it works out. I hope it turns out well for the rest of you!
 
Deferred this morning. Absolutely devastated because I really wanted to attend this school. Would have went here over any school in the entire world.
 
A lot more people are getting deferred than I expected. Does anyone have any past experience regarding the fate of those deferred??
 
No one has gotten a pre-II rejection right?
 
Differed from Maine Track... really stinks because this was probably my top choice. Anyone had luck with letters of intent?
