2016-2017 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

Honestly I haven't been sold on the idea that preclin curriculum differences matter that much. The things I care most about are optional lecture attendance/streaming online, Pass/Fail, and that the school listens to student feedback, all of which WashU fits great.

Yeah I've been thinking similarly too. Plus, their step 1 avg is so high that they're obviously providing a good preclinical education.

November here too, I feel that same way. Figure I'm headed for rejection or WL at best.

Interviewed in mid-October, same thoughts there 🙁 Plus, since they've already accepted 225+ people at the beginning of February, I don't know if they're even staying with the same model of waitlisting a ton and then drawing off of it...

Well...that might have something to do with the 99th percentile median MCAT too haha

But yeah I don't think curriculum structure matters as much as you'd expect from the emphasis on curriculum at interviews. I think it's just one of the ways schools can point out how they are unique. Your step score and the residencies you interview for will likely be the same after a Penn curriculum vs WashU curriculum vs Yale curriculum, imo.

Is WashU pass/fail unranked?

Yeah of course, they're obviously selecting for students who are good test-takers to begin with. I agree that curriculum isn't very important in the long run, but I do think it'll matter for overall happiness/experience during the preclinical years.

@justlisten234, definitely P/F the first two years (only made M2 P/F this year) and I believe unranked, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Says unranked on MSAR.

Just got accepted via email at 6:36 am PST? (Interviewed in October)

It mentions that I should have received an acceptance package but I have not?

I checked the portal and nothing has changed either.. Anyone else in this predicament?

I got that email about 5 days after the doc called me, and then received the package about two days later. I'd give it another week for your package.

Interesting, I got the email, no phone call.
How did you accept (assuming you accepted) the offer of admission? Via online portal or through mail? Confused I've heard most schools allow you to accept via online portal to avoid any delays in snail mail.

Also weird: the email never even stated my name (like a Dear acondusedasain) but it is from the [email protected] email. I'm slightly paranoid that this is some scam email since no one else has said anything about getting one this morning

I got it too. Weird that you didn't get called first but I don't think it's a scam.

Also I think there will be info about accepting the offer in the packet

Nah you should be fine. Call the admissions office tomorrow if you're still concerned.

You'll have 2 faculty interviews. The fourth year medical student section is your tour. If you have the experimental fourth year med student interviews, the schedule will say that it's a med student interview.

Now I wish I knew what the dot actually said. Is the fourth year medical student thing in McDonnell supposed to be a tour and not an interview?

Yes I believe everyone's schedules on the portal should say there is a 4th year medical student thing in McDonnell, which is in fact the tour.

Hi, how do you know Wash U has accepted 225+ people at the beginning if this month? Did you call admission office to find out?

Thanks.

Based off of this post:

To the people interested in the number of students admitted before the "big" release in March, the admitted students so far were just sent an email with all the emails cc'ed.

To date, 225 students have been admitted. According to USNWR data on WashU, they admitted 375 total for the cycle represented. These numbers suggest that the number of students admitted on a rolling basis before March is perhaps higher than originally expected.

pretty sure he/she edited the post while I was quoting them... what a savage

lol wasn't expecting a response that fast...ended up just looking it up myself instead of being lazy. but thanks for the reply 😀

This is a semi-stupid question but I was wondering if anyone knew WashU's policy on rescinding application. Most likely I'll be fine this semester but I am curious to see if I can coast and a B- or two with no adverse consequences.

Has anyone got more detailed information about second look weekend? Like specific schedule and events?

Wondering about this as well. Does it start early April 7th (aka do I fly in on the 6th or the 7th) and also housing options. Was thinking of emailing/calling the admissions office on Tuesday (after Pres Day)

Yeah that's what I was wondering. I wanted to buy a plane ticket but I didn't know whether to fly out later on the 6th or early on the 7th. Even if they're offering Olin, though, I wouldn't stay there. It kinda was off-putting when I interviewed there, and since I will be getting an apartment I'd rather not cloud my decision making by staying in Olin again. Let us know what admissions tells you 😀

How long did it take people to get their packets? I got called last Thursday but still no packet!

Has anyone heard about interviews for Olin? Or know if there are there even interviews this year (nothing about it on the selection procedures or calendar)?

If WashU only gives acceptances until March can I assume a late February interview will result in a quick turnaround decision? I hope so.

If I remember right, Olin doesn't typically fill up, so I'm not sure why they would need to do interviews... I could be wrong, though!

I think they are referring to the Olin fellowship for women. It's the only scholarship you have to apply separately to afaik

This is what I was referring to, sorry for the confusion! Anybody know any more details?

I was wondering about that too. The site doesn't say anything about interviews–were there in the past?
