2017-2018 Brown University (Alpert)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To clarify, I already interviewed, and I am nervous to hear from them tomorrow. I agree about loving the school and having a chill interview day.
Gotcha. Good luck to us both!
Anyone know if they'll call? Email? And when?

Good luck to everyone who also finds out today! I saw on last year's thread that interviewees were told October 15th but didn't hear until the 17th. Just a word of warning and comfort in case we don't hear today!

I think that's because October 15th was a Saturday

So does anyone know if the reported number of IIs (388, cf MSAR) includes people who did the BA/MD thingy?

Same! Question: does accepting the offer mean we commit, or does that just mean our spot will be held?

I think it means holding our spot. We can hold/accept multiple acceptances until April 30th, by which point we have to make a choice.

Congrats to those accepted! For those of us still waiting in silence, anyone get any IIs or rejections today?

waitlisted and heartbroken :/ brown absolutely embodied everything I could want in a med school, it would have been a complete dream

Does anyone know how much waitlist movement there is? From my recollection on interview day, they said 1/3 of interviewees get in outright and 1/2 of all interviews get in by the end of the cycle. Does that mean we have approximately a 17% chance of getting in off the waitlist?

Also anyone know when waitlist movement occurs? It looks like not until March based on the 2016-2017 thread. The waiting continues...

You have at least a 26% chance of getting in off the waitlist

Waitlisted 🙁 this one really hurts. I think I hyped myself up way too much during the day with how nervous I was and thinking about how excited I would get. I wanted this one so much. I know there's hope on the waitlist but I feel zero shreds of that hope right now. I also don't understand their 70 percent post II acceptance rate whatsoever now.
I almost wish they weren't so kind and encouraging at the interview haha, I feel like I duped myself into thinking I had a shot

Lol so true glad someone else feels the same way. I wish every place was realistic and just made the interview out as what it is but Brown was like we give almost no II's out, we love all of you, we need all of you. Looking back bleh
YES!! every single person I talked to that day was like "if you're here it means Brown already loves you" and now I'm like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ u sure??

They sweet-talked me, too. Now I'm worried about the other places that happened.... (because I need more things to worry about)

Accepted yesterday too... Pretty stoked! Brown is def one of my top choices.
For those in the WL, I remember chatting with many many students who were in your guys' same situation last year. It is possible! Good luck!

Does anyone know if there is a facebook group for those holding acceptances? or anything similar?

I haven't received a link for theirs yet. I was accepted on Monday. For another school I was accepted at, it took a month or so.

With tuition over $58k I'm not sure this place is worth it, probably will withdraw my acceptance - be sure to check your fin aid on portal because brown is notorious for being a ton of money
Also agree I was turned off by the cost when my SO was accepted last year! Many other places much more affordable

how did brown want us to send updates slash is it even worth it at this point in the year?

I sent about 2/3s of my schools an update about a first author poster presentation at a national conference and it did nothing at any of my schools. I didn’t update brown and got an II a month later.

Point is, idk if updates do much. I wouldn’t sweat it. If they want you they want you.

Did anyone send post interview thank you notes? Those that did, did you get a confirmation response from the admissions office?

Just got an II! I'm trying to plan flights/travel and line up with a couple other interviews. Anyone who has interview mind sharing the approximate schedule/timeline for interview day? Trying to decide which day to book. Thanks!
