2017-2018 Liberty University (LUCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just interviewed here and absolutely loved it. Would they put me on waitlist or reject me because of my MCAT? I got a 500 overall, except my CARS section was a 122. I do have a ton of extracurriculars and URM with a GPA in the 3.7+.

I got a 501. 125 125 125 126.

I think you are okay. As long as the interview went well.

If you got an interview with a 122 subsection they must like you because in order to be competitive they are wanting at least a 123 subsection. You should be fine. I found on the website that they prefer 497+ and 123+

I don’t think they’d waitlist me if they didn’t want me. Then I would’ve been rejected or not asked to be interviewed.
On their website they said they prefer 497+ MCAT and 123+ subsections so could be why you were waitlisted but apparently last cycle they accepted a large majority of their WL so stay positive

Just realized that statement was not for me lol. But thank you for your previous one! I appreciate it!

Didn't admissions say that we would be notified with a decision either by phone or through our liberty university email account? I vaguely remember them saying that

Yes they did!

Received an interview at midnight! Any advice on the best way to get to the interview here from SFO? Hotel recommendations?

Best advice is to relax during the interview. I know easier said than done, but the environment is so chill and your interviewers just want to talk to you and get to know you as well as let you get to know a little about them. They just want to make sure that you fit their mission. The fact that you got an interview means that they think you have what it takes to succeed in medical school and at their school. So just stay positive and be yourself. No off the wall questions either. Any of the hotels in the area are great IMO

Fly to Richmond, Virginia. Rent a car. It is a 2 hrs drive. I stayed at Mariott..many hotels around Mariott. Good luck.

Different person lol congrats though! I was waitlisted, but apparently they rely heavily on their waitlist so idk lol. You're going to be a doctor! Is LUCOM your first choice?

They said something like 90% get accepted off waitlist so just be patient! LUCOM is one of my top choices, I have 2 more interviews this and next month that may influence my decision but as of right now it is looking like its my number 1 choice.

When did you get on the waitlist?

@kus676 when did you submit your secondary, if you don't mind sharing? thanks

I submitted it September 29th, they marked it as received October 3, I emailed them about my status October 10th and they said it was under review. Portal updated to "PV Pending interview" Monday and received the interview email at midnight the same day.

Should I send updates to Dr. Patton by email? I interviewed here last week and I remember him saying we should send him updates if we think it would help benefit us.

How long did it take for everyone's letters to be marked as complete?
My application was already under review without them being marked complete. I would email them to see if they have all you letters together and ready.

When was your interview?

I think it would be wise to wait for at least three weeks. Mr. Smith told my interview group to give them a month. What kind of updates do you want to give to Dr. Patton?

Oh really? I was going to send updates on my new volunteer positions and being a TA.

If it’s to update them about something that is not on your application, I don’t see why that is an issue. But in that email I wouldn’t ask about any admissions decisions updates this soon.

As a mid-30s, non-trad, career changer...I hope some of you find this encouraging. Keep looking up and keep trusting the process. Been waiting years to say this. ACCEPTED!!!! :soexcited:

Congrats!!

I was wondering, did you find out why they didn’t let you know of your acceptance earlier? As I recall, you interviewed early August. I’ve been rooting for you since then

Maybe I'll be your mentor. Lol. 30 is the new 20. I just turned 30 last week. 😵

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! I am actually a WL success story 😉 There’s hope friends!

Amen brother. Oldies unite lol. I appreciate your help here 🙂

I interviewed 9/29. I still haven't heard anything and it's killing me! Does anyone know when the next set of calls will go out? I know a few went out Tuesday.

I am not sure if this is an SDN rumor or not, but is it actually true that around 90% of the WL gets into LUCOM? Where is this information coming from out of curiosity? Did Dr. Patton or Dr. Bell state this?

It looks like they’ve stuck to the 2-3 week response time pretty consistently. What’s your portal looking like so far?

Dr. Patton said that 70 of 80 applicants on the waitlist were eventually accepted last year.

Where on the portal do you find that?
It's listed under applicant status. Go to your liberty account, click ASIST, click general information, then applicant status. You should see something under "application decisions."

Dr. Patton said 90% during my interview. The only reason I’m so sure that was the percentage he said is cause I wrote that stat down as soon as I heard it. But no matter what, if you get waitlisted, you still have really good chance as long as you keep in touch with the school.

I know a fair number of WL'd people get in. If Patton said 90%, then that's probbaly around the real number.

Best of luck. Message me with any questions or concerns.
