2018-2019 Tulane University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was placed on hold super long ago and still haven't heard anything. Pretty sure they're joining the ranks of Drexel and UCSD and using it as a soft-R
They give out R's. Everyone's just slower this year

Would you guys recommend sending a continued interest email if being put on hold in September? Does Tulane have any policy on this?

you should do that ASAP!
n=1 but I was on hold and sent one immediately, got an II invite the next day (so I was on hold for less than a week). The dean mentioned that she likes to see some enthusiasm. So, if anyone really likes this school and hasn't been rejected, even if you've interviewed and haven't heard back send that letter of interest.

Yeah in March/April when their interviews are all done lol. I know they do give pre-II Rs, but it looks like they're using the hold as a soft R too

I think the holds could turn into II's, they just send out most of them early so someone would have to cancel an interview. I got an II for November in like the first week of August. It's honestly kind of ridiculous

+1, agree with this

For those who interviewed, did you all send thank you letters to your interviewers, both student and faculty?

Nope. If I were an adcom, I wouldn't want hundreds of anxious, brown-nosing thank-you's every year

I sent thank you emails to both my student and faculty interviewers who not only responded, but also told me their impression of me and our interview. But hey, n=1.

How Sway?

I sent an email to [email protected] a while back and got ghosted.

That's nice to know, but I don't think it affects anything since they will have already submitted their evaluation. I just personally wouldn't want all the thank-you's and so I don't send them. I really don't know what the best thing to do is lol

I sent it to the adcoms, student interviewer, and faculty interviewer. It worked for me so no harm in doing it if you want to

+2. Both my faculty interviewer and student interviewer said they’d already submitted their interview reports though so those letters didnt influence my application. The adcom letter I uploaded to the portal may have been more important but who knows. I doubt not sending a thank you to admissions will be the thing that keeps you out, but it might be the thing that convinces them to let you in if they’re on the fence about you so I think it’s worth doing.

It’s a nice gesture but I don’t think it influences decisions at all. I have been 5/6 on interviews this cycle without having sent any thank you notes. I did send them to my letter of recommendation writers though.

I submitted my secondary back in December (I know late! whoops) but I just received an email now saying my application is complete. Did anyone else have a similar experience where the complete email showed up like way later?

Heads up recent interviewees, I called admissions and they said some decisions will be sent out this week 🙂

You wouldn't happen to know what interview dates are likely to hear back? I am a mid December interviewee.

TUSOM has a very early application cycle. Applying that late is a mere donation.

When I called, I said I was a mid-December interviewee myself, and they told me I should hear by the end of this week, so I'm assuming at least us + anyone else before our interview date will hear

Can any 3rd years, 4th years, or graduates of TUSOM speak about the quality of the clinical rotations and training here?
Gonna bump this question again because I think it's really important. Also how accessible is the University Medical Center to TUSOM students?

From what I heard at my interview at LSU, LSU and Tulane students don't mix that much, so I imagine that means TUSOM students spend most of their time in Tulane's hospital and not UMC.

I've heard that while you are likely to spend a big chunk of time in Tulane's hospital, you can spend time at UMC (super nice building!). In addition, it is possible to spend time at the VA as well (not sure if for rotations but you can def. shadow and do stuff there)

I was interviewed in December and was waitlisted sometime in January, so it looks like they're slowly but steadily going through the interviewees.

Sorry to hear that, but do you mind telling us when in December did you interview? Early or mid? Also stats if you don't mind?

Axed today, put on hold a long while ago. like the person above me I was positive that this was going to happen. Best of luck to the rest of you!

Also got the axe today as expected after being put on hold. No surprise there. Did anyone actually get an II after being put on hold?

Pre II R today after being on hold. International (Canadian) so not that surprised.

well...this is confusing. I heard nothing

Any mid-December interviewees receive any news at all?
