2019-2020 Drexel

DUCOM just revoked my acceptance because I didn't answer their acceptance email or a follow up email basically asking me if I was gonna commit or not. Is it just me or is that kinda a dick move? I am by no way obliged to answer or commit until I have heard back from other schools and for them to just tell me "well you didn't answer us so we regret to inform you that you're no longer accepted into the program", seems ridiculous.
I think it was right for them to do this. There’s a 100 dollar fee to save your seat. Did you pay that? There are other people desperate to get off the waitlist so I don’t blame them if they are eliminating people who seem ungrateful.

Seems reasonable to me. If you weren’t planning on going, you’re taking the opportunity from people on the waitlist. Seems like a dick move on your part, no?

Sorry that happened to you but that sounds pretty common place in med school admissions. If there was a deposit and you didn't pay it or an email they say you have to respond to and you don't, then don't be surprised if they follow through.

I'm fairly certain they cannot require you to withdraw from other schools until prior to the AMCAS set deadlines, but that doesn't mean they can't make you jump through some hoops to accept your spot. There would be anything legally binding if you did so and then chose to attend another school.

This is simply the game we are playing whether you like it or not, tbh. As they say, it's a seller's market.

Okay, my guess is that the two of you are waitlisted and desperately waiting for a spot. After working diligently for your entire lives for the opportunity to attend medical school, there is no shame or selfishness in the fact that you want to receive a concrete response from all of your potential options. You pay money to apply and interview after all. It's the mature and sound thing to do.

Having said that, I was not going to attend Drexel anyway, I just personally thought that represents them poorly.

Good luck guys

Absolutely, just came as a surprise because there was no implication.

All good though, best of luck!

I think not for myself, as I already copped a fat A from Drexel, just thinking for the people on the waitlist because I understand their sentiment.

Thanks for letting go of your spot, and good luck to you in the future!

I don't think it represents the school poorly. If it clearly states on the email that one has certain tasks to do after receiving the acceptance email (with specific timelines/dates on when to complete those tasks) and the applicant doesn't follow those tasks, then I think it's fair for the school to rescind an acceptance. However, it would be nice for the school to send friendly reminders to the applicant to make a decision. It may be because the medical school doesn't have the time to do that but I see your point. Either way, best of luck!

Ha, actually I’ve not only been accepted to Drexel, but four other MD schools as well. You should not assume. I was just pointing out your lack of concern for others. Honestly you don’t deserve a spot at any medical instruction if you have no regard for your peers who are also striving to become medical professionals. I’m glad Drexel revoked your offer. Good luck elsewhere!

No school is under any obligation to do this though. If you can’t even be bothered to reply to an email then you really don’t care about attending that school.

I agree with you. As much as I hate to admit it we are all replaceable because it is truly a limited supply and abundance of demand market.

By accepting your acceptance offer you are in no way committed to the school or withdrawing yourself from consideration to other schools. You are simply saying thank you for the offer, yes I will be considering attending your school. You are acknowledging that you are still interested in attending the school and keeping your spot by paying a deposit. Many students after receiving an acceptance are not longer interested in the school as they have been accepted to another school that is a better fit for them. Those students choose to deny the offer of acceptance so as to allow more students, potentially students on the waitlist or students with no other offers, to be accepted at an earlier date and be in a comfortable position. I think as a future medical student it is important to read emails clearly so you understand that accepting an acceptance offer is not any commitment - or call/contact the school to clarify - and be professional in terms of responding to emails promptly. Any school had the right to rescind the offer to a student who is not embodying professionalism.

Okay, based on the response on here, I understand their position and although I don't agree with how they handled that, it's just my own opinion.

Thank you guys for the feedback, wishing you all the best of luck moving forward and hope everyone is safe!

Haha, I’ll let it go as you are, but just want to again point out that you have really zero reason to be upset by the way the school handled it. You honestly sound pretty entitled, which is your prerogative, but I’m just trying to point out why you’re getting sassy responses here.

Not really sure why you thought you get more sympathy for complaining about something that warrants no complaints given how you ignored their continued attempts to reach out to you.

I 100% disagree with your opinion. The first email I received was an impersonal acceptance email, the second was asking if I had any questions and that I can view my acceptance letter on their portal. To receive a "you didn't respond to our last email so we're gonna revoke your acceptance", ESPECIALLY during a time like this is absolutely undeserving and represents the school poorly in my opinion. I could have been severely impacted by the virus, a loved one could have passed away (both of which happened) or I could have lost power due to the natural disasters that have inflicted several states.

This has nothing to do about being entitled. Instead of making personal attacks against my character, recognize my point of view. Just because I could not find the time within a two-week span to send a thank you email, they assume I'm not interested? You guys are absurd if you think that is normal or by any means warranted.

If you want to let it go, then do just that. Agree to disagree. Don't build upon the argument.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but was there not a sentence in one of those emails that said “Please ______ to hold your acceptance to DUCOM”?

Absolutely nothing relating to my acceptance, holding my spot, revoking my acceptance, or anything of the sort was mentioned in the email prior to the one I received this morning. So no, I believe it to be unwarranted.

mmmmmmm nahh you don't get to ghost a school and then complain that they don't want to deal with you.

I hope everyone who is in limbo is keeping a level head. I’m waitlisted myself and did some introspective thinking while listening to some of my favorite vinyls. It occurred to me that a failed cycle isn’t really the end of the world. I’ve had repressed feelings of anxiety, mediocrity, and low self-esteem the last few months. After staring at my wall for an hour or so, I walked my dog and realized that I am good enough, but so is everyone else. That’s what makes this endeavor so intricate. A culmination of unique and talented individuals, of whom many would make excellent physicians. One should not judge their capabilities based off of a singular circumstance. If the will and perseverance to medicine is evident, what is a second or third cycle. I think I have noticed that so many individuals we applied with are remarkable, but it is also important to recognize how extraordinary of an applicant you are, yourself and never to doubt your capabilities or sell yourself short of all the hard work you put in.

This is somewhat of a pensive word vomit for myself, but I also think people can read this and hopefully get peace of mind. You are all exceptional and I wish everyone the best of luck throughout these next few weeks.

Sidenote: if it isn’t already obvious, I really love music. An LP I have been listening to that is helping me with the anxiety is called “Cigarettes After Sex” by Cigarettes After Sex. Idk? Try it? Lmk what you think.

Alright xoxo,
Timelessness

Should I be worried if I accidentally hit "withdraw" on the Drexel tab instead of the communication status tab (which is right above it) - but not doing the second step (saying why and hitting submit)?

99% sure I'm fine but still you guys probably can relate to my worrying probably

I've done it just to see what it says and because I live life on the edge, don't sweat it ;P
C/o 2024 already up to shenanigans, I approve 😆

Ayo accepted students.

Administration doesn't want current students clogging up your shiny new class of 2024 fb group with housing requests stuff. There's quite a few current students who need people to take over their leases or are looking for roommates.

Check out/post in that^^ fb page (created today) if you need more roommate options.
