2019-2020 Hofstra

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Median MCAT 516
Median GPA 3.78

That translates about 73 at best for a median. Hofstra might be a good school but talking to people who are mostly at 77+ makes not much sense since they are ranked 72. Are they giving lots of money to people with 80+ to attend?

Stats I gave are by MSAR (median 517) and were for the 90th percentile. Also I think Hofstra gives out a lot of money in general

Withdrawing my application today 2 months prior to the scheduled interview. Not really too chatty on this site, but I wanted to say please be considerate of your other applicants. If you genuinely feel that you're not interested in attending, help others out. Someone could really use your interview. The same courtesy extends to WL positions.

Best

Complete - 7/27/19
Interview Invite - 11/5/19
Withdrawal - 11/25/19

Interesting. You got an invite on Nov 5th for sometime in January?

Lmao, something like that. When the interview invite portion of the portal is made available, you get your pick of a slew of dates on an interactive calendar. Due mostly to funds (Low SES/FAP/took out loans to fund this cycle) I pushed my interview out to late January hoping I could save some money in the meantime. It also enabled me to pull out should other offers become available without wasting a slot.

Cool. I was wondering if they were running out of dates early November.

Interviewed here today, really really loved this school. The curriculum honestly sounds amazing and everyone at the school seemed genuinely friendly. Plus their med school building is absolutely gorgeous!
I'm so happy you loved it!! Good luck! Hopefully you'll hear from them soon!!

When I interviewed a couple months ago I think I remember hearing them say December 15, but I could be wrong on that. Dec 1 is a Sunday and I don't think anyone heard back.

Interviewed a month ago - they just said December for us.

Would someone who interviewed here mind speaking roughly about the structure of the MMI? I looked at the email and on the portal and couldn’t find anything on the particular format of the MMI, like how many stations/duration/etc. Or is this information we aren’t supposed to know lol

Not sure what there is to say, it's an MMI lol. There are multiple stations, you get a short amount of time per station, and then you go to the next station. But yeah the specifics of questions and timing probably is not supposed to be shared

I think in last year's thread people heard back on Dec 10. In the year before that people heard back Dec 20. In the year prior I think Dec 16

Imma put on my tin foil hat and speculate that the fact that II are being sent out right now might mean something about Hofstra having already decided who is accepted/waitlisted/rejected from their first wave of interviews in the fall already. who knows though, not me.

Just bc im curious -- why do you think so?

Schools decide how many interviews to send based on the number of students they have currently accepted. This is so they do not accept too many students past their class capacity. If Hofstra intended to make decisions by December, it would only make sense to wait until those decisions were made before sending out any more interview invites so they don't over or under invite.

I don’t know about that. I interviewed a couple of weeks ago and they said my interview date probably won’t be a part of the 1st wave of decisions in december

I was referring more so to interviews earlier in the fall which were promised a December release (august, septemeber, october). I don't think anything from November would be released in the initial wave.

but I also don’t think they are sending out more II because they have made decisions. But rather that they have finished going through more applications and want to interview them

For those of you who have interviewed already, was there a lot of walking or time spent outside? It's supposed to be raining during my interview so just trying to decide on outerwear...
