2019-2020 Jefferson (Kimmel)

No - it's a student-run organization and won't have a say in your admissions decision
does SKMC know if u choose to stay with a student the night before ur interview? if so, does it influence ur app in one way or another? does the student have any say? thanks friends <3
None of the current students listed in the PDF I received when I got my II responded to my email....but worth trying!

I sent my update to Dr. Callahan awhile ago but did not receive a response and it is not documented on my portal. Should I try sending to the main admissions email?
I updated Dr. Callahan a bunch last year and it never got updated on the portal. I updated both Dr. Callahan and the admissions office through email this cycle and it showed up on my portal within 24 hours.

I don't think there is a preferred point of contact. A lot of people have mentioned last year as well as some where here that they gave an update and got an II a few days later. I just sent an update recently and it got added to my communication status online. They added it as a letter of interest. I don't think it does any harm to update them. Last year I sent them a letter of intent right after the II.
Hi! I have been completed since July but have not received anything from them. The waiting game is playing on my nerves... Would you mind sharing the nature of an update that you sent out? Would a letter stating that I am extremely interested in this school be sufficient? Thanks in advance!!

My understanding from adcom folk on this site is that these pre-II letters of interest are extremely pointless, add to their workload to sort through, and have no bearing on decisions. It is a continuous assumption that so long as you haven't withdrawn your application, you're still very interested in their school. I think the only worthwhile update letters pre-II are where you've recently published, acquired large amount of hours with X significant experience, or have new grades to share with them. Patience is a huge aspect of this process.

Guys it's probably a stupid question 🙁, but I am applying for MD/PhD program and I haven't heard back since August and I really don't know what to do. Should I send a letter of intent with some updates to the dean of the school or to the MD/PhD program directors?

Does this apply for Jefferson though? Online some seem to have the impression that the school enjoys interest letters because it’s so low yield and has a massive # of applicants.

I mean this is an overgeneralization - I'm told from current SKMC students that this particular school is actually really into receiving updates & continual displays of interest so sending updates is definitely not a waste of time. In fact, I had a friend to basically updated her way into an acceptance off of the HPWL even though their stats were below their averages

My update letter pretty much stated that I interviewed and loved their school last year, and would commit given the chance. It is my top choice and I didn't beat around the bush letting them know lol. So far it hasn't done anything positive or negative and I'm waiting around. I also wrote about how i'm actually continuing a position I didn't update on the application, how i'm doing in my new scribing position, and my current relevant classes.

I saw someone quote you saying pre-II updates doesn't matter but I disagree. Jefferson is known to love show of continued interest. I saw quite a few people post last year that they got II right after the updates. I think if they are on the fence about you the update definitely pushes you over that fence.

Good luck to us all!

I got placed on the high priority waitlist today, does anybody know what that means and how people on that list fare?

Last year they said their class size is 272 students and they typically pull 50-80 students from HPWL. Last year was quite a mess with the traffic rule change so I have no idea how many they actually pulled from HPWL but I know some people from HPWL on this forum did get in last year. I was on HPWL and did not (tears).

I also heard (not confirmed) that Jefferson pretty much either accept or HPWL their interviewees. No one is straight forward R after the interview.

However, there is a regular W list, and ppl rarely gets pulled off of those, though apparently someone did one year.

I'm sharing as much as I know because this process totally sucks for all of us involved :arghh:

but hang in there guys ;_; we can do it

Edit: also, if I remember correctly the HPWL is not ranked and they continue to review us until the class is full.

Thank you for this! I submitted and haven’t heard back yet but also submitted an update letter and plan to submit another update letter soon so *cross fingers*

Thank you for sharing everything you know! I really appreciate it and I hope you have a great cycle

I have a general question. Do schools ever ask to see new information regarding activity hours after acceptance? I have some activities that I listed as continue - and I do plan to continue - but my future "projected" hours are probably going to be more than I actually end up doing. Could this be a reason to rescind an acceptance offer? Thanks!

I sent an update letter to the admissions office and on my portal it says that email receieved. Is it what it should show for update letter confirmation or something else on the portal? it was a document attached to the email. I just want to make sure that the update letter is in the system?

Yes that should indicate that the update letter is received.

At my interview day, the dean of admissions basically said this but there's definitely a "regular"/lower priority WL too that sounds like their soft R equivalent. I think to get an actual R you'd have to say something wild/racist or generally be really disrespectful to others during the day.

I think I heard they pulled like 25 ppl from the HPWL last year, but they usually take a lot more than that - think they were still trying to figure out the traffic rules

Dang, only 25? That's like half their lowest predicted number of 50 XD darn you traffic rule change! Thanks for sharing!

How long after you sent the email did that show up on your portal?

For those of you accepted: I got the campus key email and set up my Jefferson email. Does anyone know if there is anything else we are supposed to do? I don't want to miss any important deadlines

A!! Got the phone call from Dr. Callahan 10 minutes ago!! (about 2:35pm Eastern) I'm dying right now! Ecstatic!

Interviewed 10/30, OOS. Absolutely loved Jefferson!
Congrats!!!! Do you mind if I DM you?

Congrats!!! What interview dates are available if u don’t mind?
So I applied for MD/PhD, and they only have two interview days :/ [mine is in Dec 3rd (PhD portion) and 4th (MD portion)]. But based on what I have seen on this thread the earliest date that is available is in Jan I think.

Random question for those accepted or current students: so what are the prerequisite course requirements for SKMC? I had the impression that they were competency based, or am I mistaken? I’ve finished all prerequisite for all the schools I applied to, except for a couple of random courses for a few schools, and am currently finishing up my last semester. There are a couple of classes that I only took in case I got into certain schools that had super random prereq’s (like microbiology lab for example). Since I won’t be attending any of those schools, I am considering withdrawing from those courses, to allow for more time for my other classes. However, the acceptance email says that the acceptance is contingent upon “satisfactory completion of my current enrollment.” Does anyone know if I would have any trouble by withdrawing from these random electives that aren’t required for my graduation or for SKMC? If not, does anyone know who I should contact to inquire about this?

Anyone send an update and have it take a week to appear on the portal? Or may they not have seen it
