2019-2020 Kaiser (Tyson)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was complete in early July and have heard nothing back yet besides the Holiday Email (much appreciated). I was wondering if everyone's portal says "Awaiting review" still or if that ever changes to "under review" or "review completed" before getting an II or something? The most action my portal has seen has been this Holiday email.......

Sooo they're alrdy giving out interviews up to their final day in February, but said that they will continue reviewing applications until March 2020?

Can answer this: have been accepted and it still says “awaiting review” lol

looks like everyone they're interviewing has a LM score above 70. welp i've lost all hope
Someone submitted to the II tracker that they received an interview with a LM of 55. If it's not a troll, then I think we'll receive an honest review so long as we've hit 500 on the MCAT.
Good luck, and "Happy Holidays"

i'm praying, it'd be a dream of mine..

Got the holiday email as well. They should just reject me by now, it's clear that they have waaay more students still in limbo than interview spots, especially if they want all initial decisions out by March lol.

It may not be their policy to reject people during interview season like Emory

Has any applicant who completed secondaries in September received an interview invitation yet?

How long would you guys say it takes to receive a follow-up from them in regards to secondaries? I submitted mine on November 1st, the final day possible.

They did say they do things on a rolling basis.

Their twitter shared a link with a podcast that the admissions dean participated in. It’s 8 months old but pretty interesting to read.

Gives some insights into what they’re looking for in a student and their MMI. Interestingly she called not introducing yourself to the MMI interviewer/not knocking a mistake that students make, but I was told specifically not to do that at other MMI schools.

Congrats! How likely do you think you are to go?

This is a tough question. I have As from other schools that are a bit of a safer bet - they are solid and reputable and a great mission fit for me. I'm just not sure if I'm willing to take the risk attending a school where I am part of the inaugural class. Additionally, I'm really skeptical of Kaiser as an institution - they talk a big game about wanting to transform healthcare, but the Kaiser system is one of the institutional giants of healthcare and have a vested interest in keeping the status quo as it is and making a lot of money. I wasn't convinced that the school is actually going to prioritize underserved populations or people who don't have access to healthcare. Lastly, I'm interested in surgery as a possible specialty so REALLY not sure how I feel about simulations replacing anatomy entirely. However, the free tuition is going to be hard to turn down, and I have ties to the area, so....I'll probably attend the second look weekend, but with a very critical perspective (as I will for all other schools).

By mid, do you mean closer to the beginning of the month or closer to the end of the month?

End lol

I totally understand. You summed up many of my feelings as well. See you at second look!

For those that have interviewed and stayed at the Westin: does Kaiser house you in your own room or do you get paired with another interviewee?
