2019-2020 Loma Linda

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Someone who does not drink on moral reasoning, but clearly does not come from a conservative religious community is probably being dishonest. If you get an interview, they will find a way to make sure your theology or convictions align with your behaviors. Even if you succeed at tricking them and get admissions, lying about who you are for four years will make you miserable.
This is such BS lol. Admissions will do no such thing.

Anyone from July 20 submissions still waiting for secondaries???

Has anyone received a complete email yet? I submitted my secondary 2 weeks ago and got a confirmation email but haven't heard anything from them since

I received the application completion confirmation email yesterday morning.

Is anyone applying to LOMA LINDA but not religious? They say they also accept students who are not religious but how do we answer their questions on religious experiences and beliefs?

I would just be honest. You can answer the questions by talking about any experiences you've had with religion, or talk about your lack of experience/beliefs and why. I would also make it clear that, even though you aren't religious, you are open to new experiences and learning new points of view. Or maybe that you even share similar morals/values with the teachings of religion (if applicable).

This is just wrong, plenty of people abstain from drinking without any connection to a religious community.

Agreed, but I would consider that a personal conviction, as most American culture endorses consumption and trivializes over-consumption. When people oppose culture, it's usually with some reason, no matter how weakly thought out. People in America simply don't say, "no thanks, I don't drink," without some thought as to why. My point isn't just the alcohol, but rather how you respond to the entire 200+ page student code of conduct. If you have never experienced something like that, you might consider how your ideas and convictions will lead you to respond to it.
I could be wrong. I've never toured Loma Linda or met anyone from it. However, knowing that they don't just want to know if you consider yourself a Christian, but what kind of Christian and whether your pastor can speak for you, I'd say they will absolutely want to know how well you will fit within their community. Your beliefs about righteousness matter.

It's so hard waiting to hear back from this school! Anyone hear anything yet?

In review email! Hope to hear back soon.
Was the title of the email "Loma Linda University School of Medicine: Secondary Application Received"? I'm not sure if I got one, I was complete a few days after you. Did they give any indication on when you should hear back? Or just randomly decided to tell you that they are reviewing you? That's kind of pointless haha

Submitted secondary on 7/31 and just got the "you're under review" email today!

+5

Secondary submitted 7/26.

However, I called a week ago about my status and they said I was already complete and under review at that point, so there's that.

+6 got the under review email, secondary submitted around mid july

I received the secondary 3 weeks ago, but haven’t don’t it yet. Do y’all think it’s still worth it for me to grind it out and send it in? LM 69 with lots of EC’s in the church

Absolutely. The reason for this is because much of their target group from SDA universities have not applied yet- most are still waiting on their mcat scores. So basically, you’re applying ahead of probably half of the future matriculants.
Do you know if they started reviewing the apps they do have?

Why does this target group not have a MCAT score yet? Is it a SDA thing to take the MCAT in the summer?

Does this school take non-Christians? I'm a Hindu but don't attend religious services much - not for the last 2-3 years. I'm not much of a religious person. Having said that, I have absolutely no problem with the strict lifestyle requirements (no alcohol, drugs, etc.) or with the requirements for attending chapel services and taking a religion course. I'm totally open to learning a bit about the faith if needed.

Yes they do and you sound like a great candidate.

Did anyone receive their complete emails but the status on the portal is still "Awaiting Payment"?

😆🤣😆This made my day thanks.

Side note- as a Latter Day Saint filling this out:
Them: do you use alcohol, nicotine, cannabinoids, and illicit drugs/substances?
Me: Homie I don't even drink coffee let's go.
Latter-day Saint non-trads gotta represent! I am having so much fun writing my responses to these questions!

I'm a little scared to ask, but I submitted my primary before I saw that they have a physician shadowing requirement. I worked in healthcare in my undergrad; in the 14 years since graduation, I've observed many different medical professionals as a patient or friend/relative of a patient, but I have zero actual physician shadowing experience. Is it worth my time to submit the secondary? LLU aligns with my personal values; I have over 1000 hours of volunteer service in my church and lots of teaching experience. My GPA is 3.72 and MCAT is 511.

You need to get in touch with a doctor and shadow one ASAP. Being a patient doesn't count. You need to actually shadow one. This school accepts application updates. Shadow one (preferably a primary care Dr.) for 30-40 hours and you should be ok. It would be better to have more than that but that gets you the minimum most schools look for.

Similar question to above: if I have only around 15 hours of actual shadowing (in primary care) but have been scribing and have had other experiences with direct patient interaction, do y'all think it's necessary to try to obtain more shadowing experience?

I'm in the same boat as you, little actual shadowing but I'm currently a scribe. From what I've gathered its not really necessary to get more shadowing cuz our job is basically shadowing on steroids. I mean, I'm working full time under physicians everyday. Not sure why schools would want me to shadow more unless to get a look into different specialties.
