2019-2020 Minnesota, Twin Cities

It will be 2 weeks tomorrow after submitting campus selection and still no secondary...should I email?
I'm in the same boat. I got one from the Duluth campus, but nothing from Twin Cities yet. :/

Have you interviewed at the UofM in previous cycles?
Interviewed at Duluth last cycle, but got a soft R since I don't fit their mission (not from a small town, not interested in family med, etc). UMTC outright rejected me in the first wave though

There are two "not required" questions (except for the one about any updates). Are they truly not required or a measure of laziness?

wondering same thing and also for the question where you can answer "at least one."

Haven't received the secondary yet... I wish AMCAS would let you put two states as your residence because I am thinking my chances as an OOS applicant are diminishing every day. Currently live and work here

As someone who was in the exact same situation last year, I sympathize. Unfortunately, I got rejected with the rest of the "OOS" applicants despite living and working in the twin cities and going to college in state. My friend who is going into their MS3 said one adcom she talked to "looked at state of residence, MCAT, and GPA" during the post secondary review and tossed the apps that didn't meet their screen (which they had no idea on the specifics). This school is strongly IS biased, and even with significant ties it's a serious uphill battle. I don't mean to sound pessimistic: just really make sure to be VERY thorough and specific in the "Why MN" prompt as an OOS, that was feedback point #1 during my feedback session and they put a lot of stock in that!

Not trying to be sassy, but why didn't you put MN as your state of residence, then?
Not at all! I hadn't had a permanent address the 9 months or whatever the requirement was, (the DMV was very clear on that one) and was legally a resident of the state where my family was stationed (military)

Edit: thought that response waa to me, my bad!

Anyone MD/PhD get a campus selection/secondary yet?

I was verified 7/2 and haven't heard anything yet.

Haven't gotten a single email from them yet either, verified on 6/26. I think I'll wait another week until I reach out to them, it seems like they send out secondaries pretty late.

Regarding MSTP supplemental application:

I emailed their office about this because I was starting to get worried, and they told me today (7/30) that they will be sending things out starting in a couple weeks!

Did you end up emailing them? I am in the same boat. OOS. Got Duluth, but not TC.

Submitted mine 7/15 as well and have heard nothing besides the "Verified Application" email I got about 15 min later.

I received and submitted the campus selection on 7/15 and just received the secondary email from TC this morning (7/31). I'm OOS with strong ties but one of my friends who is IS had a faster turn around time.

I got the campus selection on 7/15 and the secondary on 7/23. OOS with no ties.

I wonder if it is based on stats. I also got campus selection 7/15. Didn't get a secondary in the wave today. OOS with strong ties

Just submitted the secondary. It says, "At this point in the process, an initial screen of all applications is done based on state of legal residency, MCAT and cummulative/BCPM GPA." Does anyone know what the cutoffs are for this? There are no actual numbers given on the website for the post-secondary screen.

I don't know what the cutoffs are and I wish schools were more transparent about that sort of thing, but I do know of someone who got an interview here a few cycles ago who was OOS with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.4 and MCAT in between 510 and 515.

For the setback question, would it be appropriate to discuss ongoing financial instability throughout college? This was not an acute setback, but it was a hurdle I was constantly navigating amidst my studies. Anyone have thoughts on this?

This is fine as long as you can answer the main aspect of the question: How did you identify and recover from this setback?

Received email to verify campus selection on 7/15 and AAMC was processed on 6/21. Still haven't received secondary (only applying Twin Cities)

I'm OOS but are people saying that they are sending them based on place of residence and your stats?? just was confused.

I don’t think anyone here knows for sure... people were just speculating.

Does anyone know if being a current employee at the medical school will give me any sort of advantage?

I am in the same situation--wondering the same thing! Anyone have any insights?
Also wondering - let’s hope!

If you get a LOR from someone in the medical school I'm sure that would look nice. Otherwise, you can call or email admissions and I am sure they could give you a good answer.

I know of one or two people in my class that worked for/did research for the med school prior to their acceptances. I also know of people who worked for the med school and didn't even get an interview. It's really all relative! All you can do is submit your best app 🙂

Can I turn in the secondary even though I still have one recommendation letter that hasn’t been submitted?

Submitted tonight, right at my 2-week "deadline". Marked complete thereafter. Dream school, fingers crossed!!!!!! Good luck everyone!!!

After submitting my application, the verification for my Humanities course drop down menu selection reads “change required”. All other courses say “no change required”. Since the application is submitted I cannot edit this portion to choose another class for the Humanities section. Has anyone else had this issue? I assume this is something the admissions office may be able to change for me? Thanks!

I submitted the secondary yesterday (OOS very strong ties to state), but my committee letter has not been uploaded. I got a complete email, but is that a mistake? Are they really reviewing my application without my LOR?

Is it a “writing intensive” course? I can’t figure out what class fulfills this requirement!

I was confused about it too! Wasn’t sure if it was writing intensive. I called admissions today and they said this won’t affect the application process from moving forward. They told me it was more of a way for students to check that they have completed prerequisites. Hope this makes sense!

Anyone hear anything yet?
Nope, first interview last year was August 16th I believe, so don't be worried yet! I was talking with a current M2 yesterday and she said that she didn't interview until late October and got in, so I wouldn't be too worried if the first round comes and goes and you haven't gotten an invite (or at least that's what I tell myself)!

Any MSTP (MD/PhD) applicant receive their secondary yet?
Just received the secondary now. Also the third supplemental question has an error, and should be 200-300 characters (says 4000 characters). Emailed the assistant director to clarify as instructions say all questions are 200-300 char, and she said they wanted to keep them short and this was in error.
