2019-2020 Morehouse

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That may have not been your intention, but their point is that your statement "Rejected.... peace out I’m pretty sure bc I’m not URM" implies that Morehouse rejected you only because you weren't URM rather than merit/other qualifications, hence, the stereotype that they only accept URM.
Well I apologize if you all thought it that way as it wasn’t my intention. But good luck to the rest of you guys!! Hopefully everyone will be accepted to medical school!

I also just received an acceptance. I’m shocked as well because I thought we wouldn’t hear anything until November?
Thought the same thing. Instead of calling them, I checked SDN to see if it was real LOL

Did y’all find out by email or snail mail?

Wait a minute!!!
How are people getting acceptances?!!
Wondering why they wouldn't follow traffic rules of Oct 15th.

Now I must start anxiously biting my nails and waiting for a call/email.

Congrats you guys!!!

Apparently, not all schools wait for the 15th to send out acceptances. I've heard of something like this happening in previous cycles with other schools

Pretty surprised to get the big R this evening as my stats are definitely above their median.... Goes to show that stats really aren't everything and mission fit does matter quite a bit. Good luck to everyone still in the running!!
Sorry to hear :/ I’m sure you’ll get that II elsewhere!

Can I ask if it was pre-secondary or pre-II?

R just now. IS, stats above median, lots of experience with underserved populations and made it the focal point of my app. Morehouse was one of my top choices. Really disappointed but what can ya do except keep your chin up. Good luck to the rest of you!
Sorry to hear. Did you interview?

Anyone who interviewed on Friday October 11th heard back yet?

Howdy current 1st year here on fall break, if anyone has any burning questions about morehouse school of medicine now is the time to ask
Could you talk about the curriculum/lectures, ie. are they mandatory or recorded etc. and how much free time you guys have. I’m a more self-directed learner and usually prefer studying at home rather than lectures

So most of the lectures are not mandatory and the recordings are usually up in about an hour after the lectures. However we have something called fundamentals of medicine and learning communities which are mandatory. Class is usually from 9am-5 depending on if we have anatomy lab or community health that day. As far as free time is depends on you. Some of us study 4-6 hours a day, some of us just a few hours a day, and some just cram on the weekends. I prefer to go to lectures, however only about 60% of the class shows up for non-mandatory lectures

How long would days be if skipping non mandatory lectures, or what are the scheduled times for the mandatory learning communities/fundamentals of medicine?

It depends, usually there are two lectures 1.5 hour lectures (could be a science based lecture or a fundamental class) and then in the afternoon there is either anatomy lab (3 hours), learning community (1.5 hours), or community health (3 hours).

Not really, I'm pretty much always studying but some of my classmates have hobbies they stick to daily

How easy is it to maintain a GPA above 3.0? I just received a merit scholarship and am curious about this.

Also, are all students required to purchase a laptop from MSM?

its not too hard, exam averages are usually about 87%, yes we do all our exams on think pads which the school gives you and its built into your tuition

you can still do your notes and whatever on your personal laptop but exams have to be done on the school provided laptop

Thank you for that.

Would you happen to know then how realistic it is to graduate with honors? And how helpful are the lectures for STEP 1?

I know it's too early for me to commit to a speciality, but I have my eyes set on Ortho and am hoping that a school like Morehouse could help me achieve that. Thanks again!!
