2019-2020 Seton Hall

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
HMSOM is what I put. I remember just calling it Hackensack though

You never know until you try. This whole process is a crap shoot. This was my last secondary as well last year and I was able to stick together random parts of essays and make it work. See if you can get away with using essays from other schools
Imma call it hackeysack

I know man like one person typed "of" instead of "have." I misspelled my own damn name in my primary at some point we're all misshapen typo-prone balls of clay

Is anyone a current student here and can speak to what they like/don't like/ overall impressions? This school is so new and their application timeline is inconvenient so I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. Also nervous about the accreditation. Would love more info.

why is that?

i dont think anyone is seriously attacking the school over some grammatical errors (atleast i hope not). yeah, its unprofessional, but its really just the common memes/banter you see on the internet. in reality, any one of those people making jokes would happily attend if it was their only choice. just my .02

woah wait also just noticed this letter requirement: At least one from a health care professional (does not need to be a physician - can be a nurse, social worker, physician’s assistant, occupational therapist, psychologist, etc.) How strict is this? Does research count?

Yeah I hope it doesn't cause I just sent my committee letter... I mean physician statements are included in it from evaluations I got in my clinical rotations, but legit don't have that required letter otherwise.

Atleast they removed these:
  1. State a professional goal/s that you wish to accomplish by pursuing a medical degree.
  2. Explain what qualities of excellence, knowledge, and/or skills you would contribute to the medical school experience.
But then they added one about how we tried to learn about a different culture (and not just how we are diverse)? Come on.

Yeah, I emailed the admissions office about this because I have a letter only from my research PI (Wet lab basic science research) and they said it wouldn't count. I had to scramble last minute to get a letter from a nurse in my clinical volunteering that barely knows me.

After listening to all the advice on SDN saying MD letters are worthless. Lol god damnit.

I don't really understand the 3rd question, "Describe your experience with the field of medicine (or a related field) that has prepared you for advanced study in this area. Specifically, how have your life experiences prepared you to pursue a degree in medicine, including: coursework, clinical work, experiences in overcoming adversity, work opportunity, volunteer activities, and/or research experiences?"

How is this different from the work/activities section, most meaningful experiences, and personal statement in AMCAS? Can we repeat information?
I'm seriously contemplating just copying and pasting my personal statement. Like BITCH THIS IS THE SAME DAMN THING

Same here. I don't get it. I also don't understand this: How does it make sense to ask us to "describe ... experience with the field of medicine" and THEN follow it by the word "Specifically," asking us about life experiences, along with examples of all the things that aren't related to the field of medicine...(except for clinical work I guess)?

What??? Which one is it? You want our experience with medicine? OR do you want life experiences? OR do you want both?

Am I the only person who's confused about this?

I just did a little of both and made sure to tie my non-clinical things to how they prepare me for a career in medicine

Naturally after waiting so long the secondary is sent the one time of month I have to work 12 days in a row 🙁
Same, got it the night before a full 48 hour overnight weekend shift after like weeks of light schedules

I actually emailed them with the exact same situation (only healthcare professional is my PI who is an MD) and they told me it would be fine...

How long did they take to get back to you? I emailed on 8/22 ([email protected]) and haven’t heard back yet.

Do you guys think having a letter from the CEO of a health nonprofit would count? I initially thought it would but after reading over the requirement I’m not so sure. I just finished my secondary and now I’m not sure if I should even submit it.

I emailed them back when I was making a school list, and it took a while but they said it was because my email got filtered incorrectly.

Unless the CEO is a practicing physician or healthcare provider, I doubt it.

How long did it take after submitting the secondary for it to be received? I submitted the secondary on 8/29 and it still says awaiting (shown below). Thanks in advance.

Wrong school lol

Secondary submitted 9/8/19, preliminary review 9/9/19

I did not receive an email when I submitted the application. I just received an email about being under prelim review today. Based on last year’s thread, they will email when prelim review is complete. And then after that, is the II stage.

As a newer school, does anyone know what kind of research opportunities are available to students or how realistic of a goal it would be to do substantial/meaningful research at the school?

Those under preliminary review, when uploading your photo, did you just upload the photo or upload the photo and press done uploading documents?
