Wow I really had wrong info, that’s higher than I thought! I had written down 225, but now I’m trying to figure out where I got that and can’t find a reliable source for that (or any) number anywhere... maybe I was told that and just believed it because of how low their mcat score is? Do you know where to find the info on their averages? But that’s definitely great to hear that the perception is that they can match really well.

They changed the curriculum in 2015 and basically step scores went down the first year but have increased in each year following. Next years stats will likely be 1-2 points higher again. Sorry I can't recall where to find that stuff. I haven't looked at it for months I just know the score is 235 per the dean of curriculum.

Can you share more about this and maybe some anecdotes from the 4th years? Do the speciality departments at UW really support their students in matching specialities such as derm, urology, ortho and set them up with the proper opportunities? In my surgical specialty department at a T5 medical school where I work there is a lot of inbreeding with our residents and fellows with UW and other big name schools in the region.
 
Is there anyone on here who is also admitted to Duke? I am so happy that I have acceptances at both schools, but it's going to be a really hard choice between the two and I'd love to bounce ideas off someone.

So it is highly recommended almost required to do your rotation of your top speciality choice in Seattle so you can get letters from the head of the department. This is key. Being UW, many of these letters writers are at the top of there field so they carry a lot of weight since they may be well known by residency directors across the country. I’ve heard this from fourth year when I interviewed who match into optho, many of the deans at UW also have said this, head of Idaho WWAMI said this last week to interview applicants. UW facility isn’t shy to talk about it. Maybe @BABSstudent could explain better. Yes there is support to match into any speciality we have had specialists from nearly every speciality come in a give a presentation with dinner provided so it’s easy to reach out for shadowing/setting up future clinical rotations/experiences. To be honest first two years step 1 is most important so most energy is into classes and step but opportunities to explore specialities is there. Research opportunities in each speciality in Seattle after 1st year are also available for all WWAMI sites.
 
any Seattle applicants hear back today or know anyone who did? just curious if they had an excom meeting this week or if it’s not til next week

Same here, not getting my hopes too high. I looked at the stats, they normally accept 3-5 people off the waitlist. They listed 11 for E-2019, though...guess it had to do with the fiscal situation? Do they tell you where you rank on the waitlist? (Do they even rank in the first place? I forgot)

last year’s AK waitlist movement was almost certainly due to the fiscal situation. from what i’ve heard, waitlists get announced the week following acceptances. i believe they are numerically ranked and you will be made aware of the ranking if you’re on it

Just got an email with my WL position. Did any of y'all get a similar email around now?
 
Does anyone know how quickly people move off the AK waitlist? The email I received mentioned the most movement happens around April 30th when people have to choose one med school, but it would be nice if any movement takes place before then...

Hi, Idaho M1 here. One of our cohort went to Duke for undergrad and had to choose between Duke and UW for med school. PM me and I’ll ask them if they would be interested in talking about it.
 
Just got the acceptance email this morning! Does UW have a second look or revisit weekend? Also, can any current students weigh in on the site essay (if applicable)? Really want to stay in Seattle for Foundations haha

im not sure if it’s official, but when they sent me an email regarding setting up my UW net ID, they stated Seattle as my foundation site. I just talked about my ties to Seattle and wanting to work with urban underserved communities in my future career.

about 2-3 weeks after the emailed acceptance, but may be quicker now that we’re getting later in the cycle

There’s a mix of feelings on the regional rotations. I personally have loved them, but I’m interested in rural healthcare and I’m from the region. I’m also white and cis gendered. Some people do find them isolating. It depends on how strong your need for in person interactions with your loved ones and friends is. That’s something that only you can assess.

UW has admitted to a flaw in their clinical grading for POC and LGBTQ students. They are trying to rectify this, but there is a clear discrepancy between pre clinical and clinical grades for this group of students. It is actually not more associated with those who do rotations in the region vs. Seattle, but it is something you should be aware of, especially since you are part of this group. I haven’t seen the data on this for a couple years, so I am not sure if this is improving or not. You might reach out and ask about it if you are truly concerned.

Can any current students speak to housing options for UW Seattle students? Where do most students live? Do you feel there's a sense of campus community at all between the med students?
 
Is anyone from the WWAMI cohorts going to second look in Seattle in April? I don't want my first time on campus to be during 3rd year.

I got the call for the Seattle cohort tonight around 1800! It’s been a stressful few months as a 2x applicant with an early October interview date, but there is still hope! From what I know, today was the first of 3ish deliberation days, so notice should be going out soon! Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!
 
Damn, wish I got a call instead of an email, seems more exciting
