2019-2020 Washington University in St. Louis

Yeah, but I have a feeling that it will be higher this year because they are doing a large curriculum transition which might lead to a lower yield

The class size is smaller to compensate so it’ll be interesting how the yield changes

They also seem to be increasing the amount of financial aid though, which should more than offset that. I think the yield will be higher this year and the accepted percentage after interview will be lower (higher yield and smaller class size).

Accepted today!! (Technically Dean Ratts left a voicemail for me yesterday 12/9). OOS and interviewed Nov. 6, I was super surprised to hear back so soon considering I interviewed only a month ago, I think this might be slightly unusual though because on my interview day they said they take a while/don't expect to hear back anytime soon so I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard back yet!

Also, Dean Ratts said that in a month they are going to start sending out merit aid!

An interesting viewpoint. Applicants accepted to WashU might hold acceptances to other similar medical schools. The new curriculum means that there will be some growing pains. Usually a school that changes the curriculum sees a pretty substantial decrease in step 1 score the first year, and slow increases back to average after. I know myself that although I loved the school, a new curriculum is a big if, and I might not attend (assuming I am accepted here) if I also hold another acceptance to another similarly ranked school. There are so many variables at play here, I don't think it's possible or worthwhile to predict how the yield is going to be this year.

you should tell the school that, since most people leave the place with a very negative feeling about the city.
i told them as much in a post interview email! i don't quite understand the hate st louis gets, though - does someone want to elaborate?

well, CWE is nice, but outside that... St. Louis is completely bombed out. It's not a nice city, that's it. I don't think the admissions really believes any email praising St. Louis. Most likely they think you are trying to game the system.

It depends on what your priorities are and what you’re looking for in a medical school location.

It’s not very exciting (but it is more affordable) compared to somewhere like New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, or Chicago.

It’s fairly comparable to Durham, NC

It is slightly more exciting than Rochester, MN or New Haven, CT.

Sep interviewees who haven’t heard back, have any of you reached out with an update or some sort of letter

Any 10/16 interviewees hear back? Not sure if I should send a letter of interest now if they said it is good for waitlist

I have to add that CWE feels very nice, the new Whole Foods and Shake Shack lol, I can live there for 4 years without feeling too homesick.

What are your thoughts on letters of continued interest for WashU? They discouraged, neutral, or encouraged?

My general feeling is that T20 schools in the midwest like them because they know they're competing against the coastal powerhouses. I really liked this school though. Wanted to know everyone's thoughts.

They stressed at the interview that they encourage these types of communication.
