2020-2021 Geisinger Commonwealth

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interviewed early November, deferred late January, and just now received an acceptance email. I am extremely lucky since I am an OOS applicant but I also completed my MBS through their program, so I'd imagine in a way they kinda cancel each other out. Always remember that it isn't over till it's over and that one day WE ALL will be amazing physicians!!

Congratulations!!

Deferred also 🙁 interviewed 2/1. there’s some many deferred is this basically a soft R?

On one hand I should be happy I got deferred over rejected but like I’m not very hopeful to get in after all of the deferrals especially bc it’s not even a waitlist

For those who got deferred, did any of you send a LOI prior to the decision? and if anyone can share their stats that would be much appreciated!!

I sent an update prior to the decision. 520 MCAT, 3.96 GPA. PA resident.

Just curious, why do schools do a deferral instead of just making a decison? If they are not ready, they could just not release a decision, right? Is it just to get off the hook because they know they are behind on decisions and applicants are waiting?

For those of you deferred: Mind sharing how you felt your interview went? 😅

I've heard it's because they want to wait until they interview (or review other applicants if they're done interviewing), to see if they prefer those applicants instead, but who knows.

I thought the student interview was pretty good and relaxed - nothing crazy. On the other hand, the faculty interview was probably the best that I've had regarding enthusiasm and overall conversation. At this point I feel like its all so random since a lot of us have had positive experiences with the interviews, but hey, the one thing that's certain is that a deferral is not an R.

I got deferred. I thought the interview went well, but you never know. My MCAT was pretty low, but I have a lot of experience and a high GPA. IS.

Did anyone try to contact the school to find out when deferrals will get a final decision? I heard they already ended their interview season so I'm not quite sure... maybe they're waiting for people to turn down acceptances?

Although geisinger has been dropping decisions every month, I’m thinking late April is going to be too late for them to release the results for last batch of interviews and deferred apps...right? Will they finalize everything ~2 weeks then 😳

seems like many of us got deferred. how should we interpret this? Do you think theres going to much much movement to the A?

Congrats!!!! Did you send a LOI after being deferred?

I have just a general question lol, when do most decisions have to come back by? I know its usually April? Like will most applicants know by end of April other than those who are waitlisted?
