2020-2021 Indiana

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Im hoping so, I still haven't gotten an email saying I'm completed though, what about you?
I got an email that “Your application is now under consideration and ready to go before the admissions committee. All applicants will receive a final decision by June 1.”

does that mean I should expect a decision by February or just anytime before June? 1/13 interview

I got an email today saying that the letter I submitted for their non-science requirement doesn't fulfill the requirement. Super stressed now because I graduated from undergrad 6 years ago and only recently did a grad program in a science field (graduated last year) :sorry: I emailed them explaining the situation in the hopes that they'll make an exception and let me substitute it with another academic one.

Good luck man. I had that for my science letter and they didn't bend at all and I had to rush to find a letter from an old professor.

Thanks! Man, that's stressful. Are you also a non-trad?

I do hope they grant me some leeway, though I did send out an email this morning to a prof in the hopes that they remember me just in case. It seems like some applicants were successful in getting a science letter subbed in based on this thread. The only current one that I have that comes close to a non-science is from my PBL professor who is faculty at a medical school.

Did anyone receive an email talking about being identified as having potential scholarship opportunities? I tried to get onto one.iu.edu but I don't have an account.

Yeah don't worry about that, if the email you're talking about is from "Indiana University Scholarships", know that that is sent out to literally anyone who is a current student or will be a student at IU, including graduate students and undergraduate students. So most of these won't apply to you since you're a professional student, not a graduate (i.e. MS/PhD) student. IUSM-specific scholarship information will be released in the upcoming months, well before August.

I don’t know where to really post this, but does anyone feel like this cycle was harder than cycles before?

I feel like I’ve had less opportunities this cycle than previous ones despite being better, however there are so many more applicants it doesn’t feel like I’ve improved at all lol

I just wanted to double check something - if I needed to release another LOR to Indiana, I just do that through AMCAS, right?

Correct. You just go back to the medical schools tab and select edit for IU then the letter you'd like to add. I did this earlier in the cycle and it popped up in the portal about a day later.

Does anyone know the last interview date? Mine is scheduled for the 17th but I was curious how much further they'd be scheduling out.

3/15 is the last decision day for A. In other words, if you have been accepted, you have two chances to hear back: 2/15 or 3/15 unless you are missing paper work that delays your acceptance notification. If you haven't heard by then, you are either put on the WL or R (I've heard they basically ghost you). So I suspect your date is one of the last ones. I doubt they would be still interviewing in March but you never know. They seem to take 1-2 months on average to get back to people.

Interviewing here next week - does anyone know when should I expect LORs and prerequisites to be marked as received on the portal?? I've had everything in since early Jan. Do I have to email them to make sure LORs and prereqs are there before my interview?
Hey there, was going through the posts when yours just came up! I have interviewed and been accepted already. My LORs and prerequisites weren't marked as complete until the last second -- I believe the week of my interview. Perhaps if they aren't complete by the time of the interview, you could ask then. They gave plenty of time to ask questions 🙂

I think mine weren’t marked as complete until after my interview! If they are still missing something they will email you, one of my LOR didn’t fit their requirement and they emailed me a week before me interview. You should be fine

I submitted my app to Indiana some time age, and I don't think I ever heard back from them - not even a "we have received your application" email. Is this normal? Is there any hope for an II?

I am a non-resident but I was born in Indiana and have connections to the school (dad did residency here).

Has anyone ever heard back with a decision before the two month mark or at the one month mark? I interviewed 1/13 so 2/15 wouldn’t be exactly a month but basically?

Some people have heard back at the one month mark, but most don't hear back until the second from what I can tell. Unless the adcom has significantly sped up their review process, I wouldn't count on hearing back this month. People who interviewed earlier in January may have a slim chance to hear back, but at their current rate, 1/13 seems unlikely.

This was me in the first half of the interview LOL!

The questions were mainly ethical based but they also asked why medicine. I really liked it and felt comfortable even with 2 interviewers.

Good luck! I just had mine this morning. I wouldn't say weird, but just be prepared to answer some scenario questions.
I agree, like the previous posters said, know your app well & be ready to answer some scenario based ?’s

Thank you for the advice! Was it personal at all or more just lost of questions?

I felt like it was a mix of both? It was personal enough that I wasn't keeping track of how many there were nor could I remember how many they asked after the interview ended.

Keep positive thoughts! It's really easy to believe that and hindsight is 20/20. Believe in yourself, I'm sure you did great! 🙂
Sometimes we are our own worst critic. As the previous poster said, believe in yourself & your story. You got this in the bag!!

If it helps y'all feel any better, I asked one of my interviewers last year to give me the directions on how to exit the interview area...and it was just a narrow hallway with one door at the end. And I said thanks for the interview about 5 times at the end. And I may have forgotten their names. 🤷‍♀️ 😬

We all are harsh self-critics, especially those who apply for med school and get this far. Treat yourself with kindness and don't beat yourself up for things you may have said/done that you wish you hadn't, looking back.

Congratulations on being done with the interview, and welcome to the long wait. Believe in yourself and celebrate your progress so far - what you have done so far is no easy feat! 🎉

Thank you for this! You right. Honestly felt so defeated afterwards but I watched some Star Wars and I’m all good now 😂 the long wait is the hardest part imo

So I kinda slept through my alarm and missed the financial aid presentation at 3:15. I interviewed at 9:30 and attended the student panel at 12, there were about 70+ of us in there. Can someone confirm that they probably couldn’t tell I wasn’t there? Lol

I don't think they were keeping track of who was there, but not 100% sure. The Financial aid presentation was more of a Q&A session and we got contact info if we had more questions we wanted to ask.

I didn’t see anywhere that it was mandatory, and since the first student panel had 70+ people I assumed well over 100+ interviewed. I doubt they’d take the time to mark everything down but maybe 🥶

WILL THOSE WHO INTERVIEWED IN JAN, GET A DECISION ON MONDAY FEB 15

I think it will depend on when during January you interviewed. I interviewed on 1/6, so I'm hopeful for next week.
Just to add my input - it was said IUSM did not do any interviews in the month of December. They did send out acceptances on 12/15. If that holds true then the adcom would (hopefully) have a faster processing time for those interviewing after December as they had two decision days (12/15 and 1/15) without adding a new pool of interviewees. The powerpoint they sent with the interview info also says the class isn't full until around June although I'm sure that has to do with WL movement as well. Take that with a grain of salt though 🙂
