2020-2021 Liberty University (LUCOM)

When you press "complete secondary application" from the e-mail, does it look like it hasn't been submitted (even if it has been?)

Yeah, but I'm not too worried since they sent an email a day after i submitted that they received my secondary. Although after reading it, the complete email said they'll get back to us in 30 days after the supplement and I submitted Jun 24. So perhaps some movement is coming soon?

Has anyone with a 500 applied? I know their site says 501 minimum but I'm wondering if they're lenient on this at all

So for the first question on the secondary, If I discuss my beliefs and interests in religions/spirituality that is not Christian or traditional in that sense, will this put me at a disadvantage? On that note, will hinting or giving indication of liberal background or beliefs hurt my chances? Want to be honest but also don't want to shoot myself in the foot, so to speak.

FWIW, I am a devout and practicing Hindu. I spoke about it freely and drew comparisons between the Hindu and Christian religions when it comes down to caring for others and the fundamental philosophies behind medicine and altruism. I even brought it up in my interview. I was accepted and was shown no biased treatment from any of the people there. LUCOM is a progressive school and its strict requirements are derived from their high expectations for medical school students. LUCOM has very little affiliation beyond the name to its parent institution and it should not deter you from applying. I gave up my seat at LUCOM last cycle because I was accepted to an institution that was much closer to home, otherwise, I would have had no qualms about attending LUCOM.

Just my two cents on the Black Lives Matter issue 😊

Of course, I agree every black life matters. There is no doubt in my mind about that. But I do not personally support BLM as an organization because I do not agree with certain things stated in their "What we believe" page. I haven't looked into the specific case regarding the LUCOM president, but I just wanted to share that not everyone who doesn't support "BLM" is a racist or a bigot. They just may have a different perspective or way of wanting to go about dealing with racism in this nation.

Just some resources I thought I'd share:
I'm not saying this is the view everyone should have. If a lack of support for BLM is a non-negotiable, by all means, do what aligns with your values and gives you peace at the end of the day 🙂 Just thought I'd simply share a different perspective. Hope it helped some of you out there!

Otherwise, have a blessed day everyone and good luck on apps~

Just to clarify, the LUCOM president did not cause any controversy...the Liberty University president did, with a tasteless statement about Virginia governor’s choice to wear blackface at a party in either college or medical school. I doubt LU’s president has been up to the medical school building except for the ribbon cutting.

The LUCOM Dean has never been in any controversy of any type as far as I know, and he is willing to go toe-to-toe for the medical students with the LU president whenever the situation demands it.

Anyone not get a secondary yet? I don't have a score yet so maybe that's why... My application was sent on June 15

Has anyone been rejected pre-secondary and they aren't sure why? I don't have my MCAT yet but otherwise, I meet all of their admission requirements. I emailed them this morning but was wondering if it was maybe a glitch or something.

ETA: I know they say they prefer >3.4, but the minimum requirement is the 3.0, correct? I have over 3.4 in my post-bacc science courses and post-bacc GPA, but my cumulative GPA is around a 3.2 and my cumulative science is just under a 3.4. Maybe this is why I got rejected?

I also don't have my MCAT yet and haven't gotten a secondary. Let me know what you find out!

No, I haven't gotten any emails from them! Will probably call or email them next week

So I just heard back. I was screened out because I had a misdemeanor 5 years ago (which was just a fine I had to pay and I am currently getting expunged, but that is beside the point). I'm kind of surprised because my advisor was pretty adamant this would not make any difference to my application, but it is what it is. Best of luck to you!

What sort of behavior was this for? I have an alcohol-related IA (but no misdemeanor) and received a secondary.

Has anyone else not received a secondary? I am beginning to wonder if it is because MCAT score is not in yet, because my GPA is competitive for this school. I might reach out to them soon just to make sure there isn't any issue with my app...

Silly question, but is IA institutional action? Anyway, it was an underage in possession of alcohol. If I may say so myself, it was the stupidest thing ever and I'm pretty they were just trying to meet quota. I took a drink out of a drunk friend's hand and put it down and a cop saw me. I was stupid enough to pay the fine, not realizing that was an admission of guilt, and here I am stuck with the misdemeanor. My undergrad initially was going to make me do a class and write a paper and all this stuff but after I explained the situation they took away any sanctions they had planned.

Strange. And they told you this is why you were screened out of a secondary? Yes IA is institutional action, and I had one for underage drinking but still received a secondary.. now you have me worried lol

If you received a secondary I wouldn't worry! My grades aren't awesome either so maybe the combination of the two made them screen me out immediately? I'm not entirely sure. I'm sorry for worrying you!

ETA: So basically we had opposite punishments so I guess they care more about the punishment, not what the actual event that caused the punishment

Yeah I did not get a misdemeanor, only the IA from the school. Well I'm sorry man, that's rough. I'm sure you will have better luck elsewhere in the cycle and land at a school you'll love. Best of luck man

It's okay, it is what it is. They did say I could send them the court's approval of the expungement when that goes through, so if it isn't too late in the cycle I'm going to do that. Anyway, I appreciate it, and best of luck to you as well!

No secondary yet. Same situation with the MCAT. I emailed them and they said to be on the look out for one

I don't have my MCAT in yet but I received a secondary last week. Hope that helps!

I was screened out initially as well because I had a speeding ticket - which is a minor misdemeanor in my state. I cleared it up with them and got a secondary - but kinda disappointed that they didn't read the description in my primary. Best of luck to you

I submitted the secondary in mid-July but my 3 recommendation letters are still not marked complete. For those of you who are marked complete, how long did it take for your recommendation letters to be received?

I emailed admissions saying my letters were in and they manually updated it for me

Mine is the same way, even after I emailed them and they confirmed that they had my letters.

I also got the interview invite today. Did you get the followup email with link to choose interview date?
Mine still says incomplete/items outstanding yet I have all my letters in? What does your portal say

Folks who got the interview invites...did you receive the followup email to schedule the interview?

I waited about 3 weeks for my letters to be marked completed and then I emailed them yesterday and they were marked complete today. So I would email them

They are marked complete in the portal, mine shows this

When are interview dates? I’m a current student but I’m interested in seeing how they do interview days with COVID. Are these virtual interviews or in person?

When I go to try to check up on my LUCOM secondary application status, it takes me to my secondary application and it looks like the secondary application is able to be edited and that there is a chance to pay for it. This is strange because I have picture proof from July 1,2020 (picture I took) of a page that says "LUCOM application submitted successfully". How do I check my application status?

Thanks! I got the interview scheduler link early Saturday. It was hiding in the promotions folder.
Was your portal saying “incomplete/items outstanding “ prior to your II?
