2020-2021 UCLA (Geffen)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Then why did someone say a few days ago that 190-200 have been sent out? Do you mean the class is filled?
If everyone matriculates then yes the class would be filled - 164 MD + 18 PRIME. UCLA has a few different overlapping programs (Drew/MD-PhD/PRIME/normal) so the numbers are confusing. But usually people will decline and offers will be extended to those on the waitlist.

Okay got it thank you! They usually accept 310-320 I thought, so are they accepting more? Or is it now just waitlist?

Current MS1: All initial acceptances have been sent out at this point. There were over 15,000 applications this year and so congrats to those who have been accepted!
Thanks for the update! I have heard that UCLA usually accepts 300+ applicants to account for those who decline to attend. Will the school be following the same practice this year? And, if so, do you mean that they have accepted that full amount (300+) or simply that they have now officially accepted the full size of their class (~182) but will still be sending As out until they reach the 300+ figure?

To anyone else who's having a bad day after this news...same.

Currently sitting on zero acceptances, which also doesn't help.
Same...I haven't received the R from UCLA but with the MS1 saying the class is already filled, I guess I am on the same boat as you 😢 Do I even have the energy to apply for the next cycle? If so, where do I start..? Retaking the MCAT? Finding a healthcare-related job? I don't want to give up my dream...yet just feel like I'm a different person compared to last August

Where did you hear the 300? I saw it on the spreadsheet of post-II results, and that number includes those accepted off the waitlist later. I'd think this is the initial round of As before determining waitlist and then accepting from there as accepted students decline the offer.

My guess is they accept another 75 or so before moving to the waitlist
The earlier post seemed to suggest that they're done with As and are now onto WL. Do you think there are still As to release pre-WL?

Based on the fact that they historically accept 300-310, including 50 off the waitlist (based on MSAR), and there is currently 182 accepted, yes I do. But, as always, who knows. 🙂

I feel stupid for asking this, but should I wait to submit an update letter until after a decision or should I do it now? I wonder if they’ve made a decision about me and just haven’t told me or something
Not sure if anyone's answered this yet, but I emailed them recently and was told that they weren't accepting updates as applications were locked.

I’m an OOS applicant. Is there a time skew in terms of acceptance instate vs out of state. Like more in state acceptances going out earlier?

Do you know if that includes Letters of Interest? Was thinking of sending one.
My emailed specified updates and/or letters of interest so I guess not? If you want to double check with them, keep us posted!

I have no idea, but do y'all think that they are done sending post-II Rs?
If their waitlist is 150 people then seems they have a lot of Rs to send still.

I'm also not sure that they're sticking to the 600 interviews as stated earlier in this thread. Considering they started in late August and continued to end of January with 2 days a week and anywhere from 20-40 in the interview groups, that seems more like the 900 of past years. With the increase in applicants they might have decided to interview more but who knows

It wasn’t twice a week. Closer to 4 times a month. But still a lot of people

Really? When I was scheduling an interview there were availabilities twice a week for Sept/Oct

Edit: I went back and checked interview dates of those accepted/rejected/asking if people from their date have heard back and it seems like Mondays and Fridays. Granted not every date was reported on here since not everyone posts on SDN

Just leaving admissions office hours and they said as long as you still have an active application you're still being considered. It typically takes until April or May, and sometimes even June, for them to fully fill their class. As they send out acceptances, some people accept and some decline. As that process happens they evaluate their class and extend more acceptances if they still have space

edit: they also said that the committee doesn’t typically look at updates unless there was something specific in your application that needed to be updated (e.g a grade in a course you were taking). Whether the committee uses your other updates is up to them

Thanks for sharing! Was there any discussion on their policy re letters of intent/interest?

If we haven’t heard back by now, should we just assume that it’s an R? 😞 anxiety levels sky rocketing. My stomach drops every time I refresh email in anticipation of an R

In the past week a UID number popped up on my portal. It was never there before and I've never had an affiliation with UCLA. Did this happen for anyone else? I searched online and UIDs are only created for those accepted or waitlisted. For those of you that have been rejected did you have a UID created before hand (no prior UCLA affiliation). Anxiety is creeping in and looking for any hope at this point

Mine has been there for a long time (at least a few months) and I haven't heard anything back post-II. Interviewed back in October if that's helpful

do you guys think there is another wave of Rs today?

my UID appeared a few days ago, i interviewed dec 4th. i haven’t heard back post-II. hopefully it means good news

Is anyone else kinda freaking out that it’s almost 3 PST and that’s when it went down ln

From my experience and what I’ve seen on this thread, for As they send an email first and then a call ~20 mins later! Although my call was 2 hrs after I received the email lol
