Hey all so just wondering about their pre-req requirments and I see that they don't accept AP credit anymore. Does that mean I have to take statistics over the summer if I get accepted prior to attending or will they waive that requirement if it's only one class?
Hey, have to caution you: you are supposed to take any classes you need for matriculation BEFORE July, I believe, according to the rules. They might make exceptions if you communicate with admissions, but I'm not sure you can take a class that late and still have it count for prereqs. Don't mean to stress you, but it's something I looked into myself and I urge you to start figuring it out ASAP.

I think so. I don't mind taking it just the timing scares me if I can complete it by July 1st.
I just checked and unc summer session one ends on June 23/24 so you have a week to submit credit for statistics before the July 1st deadline. It’s cutting it a little close but what can we do 😞

The concern would be if transcripts even happen that quickly. Should be okay though. I would look at the Maymester as well, if possible.

I would also communicate with admissions to keep them in the loop for anyone who has been accepted. They might be able to give you specific guidance/help.

Does anybody else feel extra careful when scrolling down the page because you don’t want to accidentally press the withdraw link ? 😂

So I just re-read the email that UNC sent in response to my inquiry about statistics- this was from September. Do you all think this sounds like they won’t even offer an acceptance until the class has been completed? I totally didn’t realize this until now.

“You must have all prerequisites completed before we can offer you a seat in our class. You may be offered an interview but not a seat until they are all complete. The class must be considered a statistics course, not a class that included it.”
But if you take the required class during or after interview but they do not want student updates, then how will they even know of your progress?

thanks for sharing this info! I am currently taking a prereq that I won't be done with until April..

goodbye adios au revoir addio tschüssi, UNC! it was fun while it lasted!

I think you can be accepted without completing all the requirements. In the acceptance letter it states your acceptance is contingent on completion of all courses and programs described on your AMCAS which is verified by the transcripts you have to send in.

I don’t know. I just emailed and called them and left a message. The way it sounds to me is that they couldn’t offer me an acceptance until May when the final grade is uploaded. At that point the class could be full.
I think you’re okay! Based on the info on their website, it sounds like you need to have required coursework before matriculation (July 1st is actual deadline). I’m going to trust the website more than your email response... haha so as long as you send an official transcript by then, you’re good!

Thank you guys, I seriously just freaked out 🤣
Edit: Now for my next question- I never added statistics to AMCAS, I'm taking it at UNC Asheville and that's a new college for me not even on my list. It's not letting me add that information since my application was submitted. Is there anything I can/should do about this? *Freak out continues*

Once you get accepted, you will be sending your transcript(s) to UNC directly anyways. You can send any number of them from why number of places, I imagine. As AMCAS points out, it doesn't share transcripts with schools. We have to do that ourselves. I assume it won't even matter what's on our AMCAS at that point.

So to help with all the anxiety that people are having with the AP credits: I took AP statistics and am missing a Psychology prereq but I was offered an acceptance. I went to the virtual office hours with the admissions committee and they told me not to worry about the deadline for transcripts if offered a seat. They will work with you to accept your transcripts even past the deadline stated on their site if you have to take a summer course to meet the prereqs after being accepted. They told me they frequently have PhD students who get accepted and aren't able to provide final transcripts til end of July.

Hope this helps!

THIS WAS THE BEST THING I'VE HEARD ALL DAY. I HAD A mini heart attack (exaggerating) from the previous post about a email that required prereqs prior to acceptance and now I'm all calm now. Thank you that helps a lot along with all the others who posted regarding this. I am now stress free and will just take statistics over the summer before July 1!

Update: I don’t know what to think

This is what I sent UNC a few hours ago: “I just re-read your email response from September, shown below, and I would like clarification: does this mean an acceptance won’t be offered until all of the pre-reqs are completed? I am currently taking statistics but won’t be given a final grade until May. Does this mean if I were to be accepted it couldn’t be offered to me until May?”

Their response now: “Yes, that is correct with the requirement that you pass the course you're taking with at least a C. Typically we don’t have applicants that are completing prerequisites during the spring, However, April 30th is the deadline for applicants to withdraw from the schools that they hold multiple seats at- so we have a numerous offers being sent out in May.”
Wait does that mean I won't even be considered since I was going to take the course during the first summer session!

My brain is twisting in circles putting what they wrote me together with everything everyone has said on here. I don't gotst a clue
Same I'm confused cause there's no way I can take stats now since I can't register and my original plan was to take it over the summer and everything people said on here seems opposite to what they said

Can you please let me know what they say when find out? This is super stressful
They currently have office hours on zoom! (Virtual Office Hours | Office of Admissions) I asked the nice lady the same questions, and she reassured me that taking statistics right now is fine and as long as I have the grades submitted before July 1st, I would be okay if I was offered a seat!

So does that mean I can take it in the summer and I'll be fine? and that it won't effect my chances. Who knew having AP credit in STATs will cost me this much

yes! She said that this happens more often than we would think, and that we can take statistics in the summer. The admissions office will work with you if your professor has not uploaded final grades before July 1st. They will send you an acceptance regardless of if you do or do not have the required pre-req courses. You just need to have them done before ~July 1st in order to matriculate.

Thank you so much. You made my day and my stress level is back to normal. Thank you so much to everyone!

You all, I am SOOOOO sorry for this confusion and for the stress I've caused the last few hours- I just went into the virtual admissions counseling for UNC and realized with her that it was sent from an ECU email address, but it just said "SOM Admissions". I'm an idiot. She confirmed what everyone has been saying in here: you will still be considered for acceptance while taking the pre-req courses, just have the grade for the class on a transcript before the deadline. WOW. Sorry again. I should probably delete what I've written previously so as to not cause confusion to people coming to the thread.

It's fine, I only went through the process of sadly saying bye to UNC in my head. I'm just kidding I was worried but this news fixes everything and I feel really happy now. Thank you so much for clarifying and it's not a problem at all. Thank you you also made my day!!!

👁️ 👄 👁️
does that* apply to this situation as well: did not take stats, not currently taking stats, so stats is literally nowhere in my app, not even with a pending grade

*that = considered for acceptance just take the class before july

lmao.................... im scared

Do you guys believe that if you haven't received an acceptance yet from a school, that you should start preparing for next cycle?

I’ve been grappling with this too. I guess it partially depends on how many interviews you’ve had. I’ve had 4 and no A yet, although I’m scheduled to hear back from one next week. I haven’t quite let my mind get to the reapp planning yet, but it also could just be denial. That wasn’t really an answer, but I’m here in solidarity!!!!

So in regards to the confusion about stats... you can be accepted without having already completed a pre-req like stats, but can you be accepted and MATRICULATE without taking a pre-req like stats?
