2021-2022 Geisinger Commonwealth

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got pre-II Hold today. "The Admissions Committee has reviewed your materials and elected to defer an interview decision until a later date"

Hope you all are doing well! Do any of you think people who interviewed in November will hear back before the end of the year?

Would anyone who interviewed be willing to discuss how the MMI went or any other aspects of your interview? This will be my first ever MMI and I’m curious how it went virtually plus how intensely they question you.

Has anyone gone to the recruitment days? What should we be expecting for tomorrow?

I forgot to sign the agreement form, went into my MMI late (their app is kinda weird so I didnt know what I was doing), didnt prepare that adequately for my first two interviews, and got cut off on two questions (MMI is timed and super short). I think I did bad in general but I still got an A ... so maybe they evaluate holistically?

... or maybe i fell through the cracks lol

Or you could have high stats and/or URM

competitive stats (ppl w/ higher LizzyM have gotten R, WL), ORM, in-state but not within Geisinger counties

second cycle applying with same resume ... med schools is a crapshoot

Congratulations on the A this time! Some people certainly do fall through the cracks, no doubt about that. I'd wager though that having 10+ more schools on their list where they are a very competitive applicant might put them in a different position, provided they also apply early.

Thanks so much for the insight! Could you provide any more feedback on the setup the interview (i.e., timing, number of questions) or type of questions? Did they ask any traditional interview questions or was it all scenario based?

i dont really remember timing but i recall thinking to myself that its a lot like casper snapshot/duet (whichever one is the video one). Except this time you get an interviewer instead of staring at yourself looking like an idiot and stammering about some nonsense. which i still probably did on my geisinger interview anyways.

Idt i can answer your last question. Maybe if i read the video agreement and knew what i could/could not disclose i would be able to. But it doesnt really matter. I watched this video: and some of his other videos. It helped me a bit bc this was my first mmi interview and I think his sample questions helped me get into the right mindset.

But i think for my interviews i dont really prepare for questions or scenarios. I try to refresh my memory about my experiences, the people I've met, and the lessons I've learned, and how that shaped me as a person. Then I just shape it into the context of mmi/traditional interview questions. Take my words with a grain of salt/pepper/whatever. This is my only A so far, and like I said I think I did p bad on this interview so lowkey feel undeserved compared to other kids that worked 10x as hard as i did 🙁

Did anyone get a booklet in the mail recently? I interviewed in mid-late October, was deferred in mid November, and then a few days later I got an email about the 2022 viewbook.

Interviewed mid-November (no decision yet) and got it the other day. I also got an emailed version a couple weeks ago

Can anyone give a general outline for what interview day is? I know that there's an informational session at the start, and they have an MMI interview format. Is there anything else we ought to know or prepare for?

Has anyone interviewed yet for the Abigail Geisinger Scholars Program? Any tips? How did the interview day go? Thanks

My advice is to pay attention during the info session when they explain the interview format. It was slightly confusing at first (for me) but it actually went surprisingly smooth. And if you need to take a second to think about the question, just tell them you need a minute! It's better to organize your thoughts than to start stumbling through an explanation. Take the few minutes between sessions to breathe and relax and you'll do great 🙂

Hello everyone! Did any of you get an email today regarding the Abigail scholars program and information on the FAFSA submission?
I did! It's just a reminder to complete the FAFSA by the 12th if you're still interested in applying to the Scholars Program!

does anyone know if geisinger accepts update letters? if yes, where do I send it I don't see a place for it in the application portal

Hi - yes, I got off the deferred list last month: Interviewed in September, Deferred in October, Accepted in November. There is hope for deferred students!
Wow, that's amazing! Sometimes I feel like we use SDN as the only indication of people who get off the list and forget the fact that the vast majority of people don't even use it.

Anyways, were you accepted on the 15th of November? Did you send in any updates or letters to leverage this decision?

Hey - yeah I agree. This was my first time posting anything - just b/c I remember how hopeless I felt for this school after getting deferred and wanted to show that getting accepted post-deferral is certainly possible!
To answer your question, I got accepted on November 16th. I sent an update letter after I got deferred. My update letter really didn't have a lot of new information in it - it was more of a letter of interest/intent than an "update". I'm not sure if it helped, but it certainly didn't hurt!
If I might ask, how did your interview go? I thought mine went pretty well... but honestly I scoured last year's thread and really only saw people say they got off Deferred once the waitlist was formed so this is interesting news.

Edit: I interviewed in October, deferred Nov 16th. Praying maybe there's a chance I get taken off sometime this week. Otherwise, it probably means end of cycle.

Interviewed 11/15, just got the deferred email. OOS, no ties
Sorry to hear, were you AM or PM? I interviewed in the PM and I haven't heard anything and didn't expect our cohort to hear until late jan.

Update: was deferred
