Adding on, given that there's a finite number of interviews slots available and seats at the school, schools are not going to spend all their resources on high stat applicants who might not treat their programs seriously or would ultimately go to other "higher-tier" schools.

im well above both gpa and mcat, but i still thought being above either would make us more competitive for a school that gets the most applications. i guess its still early and i know we're being neurotic. lets hope for the best!

this yield protect stuff is pretty annoying. some of us are high enough to get yield protected but not high enough to get the attention of the harvards and stanfords of the world 😫 gw if youre listening plz take us

I was the one who got this message. Believe me, I looked everywhere in past threads too and couldn't find it. I still haven't received an official email about anything

Did you ever see if your status was, "File is now under review"? It looks like that is the typical status pre-II in past years.

The first day that I looked at the portal was on 7/12 and I saw the message about waiting for an email about scheduling, so I'm not sure what it said between submission and then. I wish I checked!
 
I just checked the GW portal and saw that my application status had been updated with this message:

"Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. Files are re-reviewed by the committee periodically and there is no set schedule for decisions. We do interview from August through March. Please feel free to update your file during this time using the GW Admissions Portal. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience."

Do any of you know if this is a bad sign since my application has been "reviewed" but I still haven't heard anything about interviews?

Scroll up for more in depth answers. It is like being put on hold and TONS of people are put on hold for GW and many still get an interview or get into GW.

I wouldn't stress about it. I've been through this process once and I cant tell you it's loooooooong. Hang tight.
 
Random data point... I applied 2 yrs ago and returned GW's secondary in the beginning of Sept., a month after getting it (I know I was a med app noob back then). It took a month to receive a II from them, even that "late" into the cycle when theoretically they didn't receive as many new apps in Sept... so I think they take their time to look through your apps!! It'll be ok! 🙂

I wonder if those who are on hold (me) get this message after they re review and hopefully get an interview?? Just speculating but regardless congrats!!!!

I believe this is incorrect or at least outdated information. I found this in their

Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plans and Reports 2018-2022​

"GW SMHS envisions a community distinguished by the depth of its diversity and the value placed on it. GW SMHS identified four target groups that have been traditionally underrepresented: Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, the economically disadvantaged, and first-generation students. Increasing underrepresented student recruitment, improving retention, and promoting a culture of inclusion are integral to the GW SMHS vision." so it seems like all Hispanics/Latinos are considered URM.

Turns out that what I saw was actually on the GW pre-health website and is most likely incorrect/outdated given this report. Thanks for sharing!

On hold here is not a soft R! GW uses their pre-II hold very liberally, almost all applicants are placed on hold at some point in the cycle (there's a ton of discussion on this topic further up in the thread). Chin up - it's early in the cycle and a hold here isn't an an automatic R!
