2021-2022 George Washington

On hold certainly does not equal rejection. I was on hold in the beginning of the cycle and ended up getting an II later on
When did you end up getting a II after being placed on hold?

I pre-wrote the secondary so I submitted and was complete within a couple days. Was smacked with the hold right away and got an II sometime in November.
Do they typically send out II to a lot of people? We’re you also put on hold after the interview? Congrats on getting the II!

According to this tracker made by the one and only glorious @TheDataKing, GW appears to give II to a little under 10% of applicants with acceptance about 3% of applicants.

Post interview I received an acceptance although many people who received waitlists did get off the list.

So where are all the IIs for people who had the message "Your file has been reviewed and by the beginning of August you will receive a formal invitation by email about how to schedule a virtual interview.” The beginning of august has passed?

Nothing here yet. Still only the third day of August though. I would still say we are in the beginning of the month

So that means getting an interview is very impressive since it’s only 10% of all applicants right? So post II acceptance should be relatively high ..

This doesn't necessarily translate to high post-II acceptances, just because of the huge volume of applicants! George Washington is actually one of the most brutal when it comes to post-II acceptance rates: they are a little under 30%

So just to lay their stats out here for 2021 cycle. They interviewed 10% of applicants (1149/11772) - many of whom were originally on hold at one point or another. Acceptance rate OOS Post II is 29% (329/1149), meaning their overall acceptance rate OOS is 3% (329/11772) and their matriculation of those accepted is 54% (178/329).

Anyone who gets an interview should be super proud of themselves!

And for those on hold, GW does do a lot of yield protection, so don't be surprised if you feel you are a good candidate that was put on hold. A ton of people make it off of their re-review list and get interviews. GW does interviews very slowly and strategically compared to other schools, often saving crazy perfect candidates to later in their cycle. It is very smart on the schools behalf because they then prioritize individuals they see actually wanting to attend their institution over those that may see it as a backup plan.

40% is the average but some schools get lower than 20% (like NYU) and some get as high as 77% (like Michigan). 30% in the grand scheme of things is pretty standard (albeit lower than the average), but I wouldn't say brutal. A 1 and 3 chance during interviews is a pretty good standing, especially compared to a 1 in 5 chance.

Put on hold today, complete around first week of July. Not a great way to start the cycle. Got some pretty darn average stats so this definitely is not yield protection. Expecting the R, which is disappointing!

There are worse ways to start! The first thing I heard was my alma mater rejecting me lol.
That's rough. I did apply to my alma mater but 100% expecting the rejection. GW was a good way to snap out of fantasy land!

Just got put on hold sometime in the last hour. 😢

7/9 completed. Placed on hold today I think.

"Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date."

Does GW reject anyone after review or is everyone put on hold?

yep that’s the hold notice.

According to the portal, I am also on re-review unfortunately. Complete around mid July.

Also got hold notice, and I submitted secondary yesterday. Damn they are fast

Hey everyone, quick question! I submitted my primary in early June and was verified in July but still haven't received a secondary from GW. They're the only school to not send me one. Is anyone else in the same position or know why they haven't as yet? Kind of worried because it's already august

I heard they send one before people even get verified. I would check spam and through the emails. If you still do not find it, email them perhaps

Hi! I was in the same boat but actually was able to find the portal on their website and create an account. GW SMHS MD Program Applicant
I later found the invite email from them in my spam folder 🙃

Have they actually rejected anyone lol? It feels like everyone is being put on hold for re-review.

Maybe early decision applicants? The only interview I see on the tracker is a Canadian individual.
they havent given out official interviews yet but when some ppl check the portal it says "Your file has been reviewed and by the beginning of August you will receive a formal invitation by email about how to schedule a virtual interview. Until the time the formal invitation is sent, there is nothing additional you must do."
