2021-2022 Kaiser (Tyson)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It is not a fee, it is just the price of housing/food/etc. Living with a roommate, most LA college students can live around $15-20k a year. They don't offer FAFSA but they offer need-based aid just for living expenses if you qualify.

Skip to around 12 minutes of this Kaiser video to find out financial aid for living expenses.

Thank you 🙂 I appreciate it!

I was looking on the website and it says that even with tuition waived there is an estimated 34,500 annual living cost. I saw earlier in this thread that Kaiser students cannot recieve federal aid through FAFSA due to how new they are - has anyone who has interviewed asked how most students pay this fee? This is still way more than I can afford and I am now thinking that Kaiser may not be an option for me
I can't answer the question fully but I did see on their financial aid page that they provide additional grants past the free tuition. The example was a fairly wealthy student and they still got a 20k grant. Obviously they probably picked a scenario that makes them look particularly generous but it appears that they give pretty good aid on their own so I wouldn't have that as my biggest concern tbh.

can confirm, they were very generous with additional aid past the free tuition!

I actually asked this question during the student panel and the student said they each received housing allowance, though I could not find anything on the site about it. I think there was a document somewhere in the materials Kaiser provided that showed how they estimate cost of living and family contributions, and I think they provide whatever the difference is.

For those that have already interviewed, if you're allowed to say, how many MMI stations are there and how long do you have for each one? I get it if it's covered by the NDA but I was just curious ahead of my interview

I don't think this is covered by the NDA since they provide this info before interview day. There are five MMIs, you get 2 mins to read the question and 7 to talk.

Seems like they accept a few people from every interview date roughly 2 weeks after each interview. Does anybody know if people who don’t get accepted right after their interviews are still in the running or is it a soft R?

Still in the running! I've seen people on this thread and last year's thread get acceptances a couple months after interviewing. The student I talked to on my interview day also said he got accepted about 2 months after interviewing.

The current students are attending for free. Everyone got a stipend to cover the annual living cost. So truly a free school to attend

Just received an MD/PhD II by phone call! (I did also receive a second "application complete" email a few hours before the phone call.) The only available interview date for MD/PhD was 11/30, though I did see that they had an available interview date for MD-only on 12/10. I did not see any more dates after 12/10 at the time.

For those who have interviewed: If my interviews are in the afternoon session, what do I do during the morning?

What was the timeline for decisions after interviewing? I remember they talked about it during the info session but I completely forget.

interviewed early September.. silence since then. anyone else?
to be fair it was my first interview and don't think I did too hot at all

their website states MMI and one-on-one long traditional format? So you do both types?

how far in advance was your interview date from your invitation date?

I chalked mine up to an R, considering that they’re interning in groups of 25 for 50 seats. Also felt that it was my worst interview. Think that I was weirded out that our conversations were being recorded. Only school I’ve interviewed that has recorded.

Has anyone that interviewed mid-November heard anything yet? I can't remember what they said the decision timeline would be like. Not too hopeful bc there are so few spots, but I'd like some time to recover from an R before gathering for the holidays lol

I interviewed November 9th and nothing yet. They told us 2 weeks - 4 months for an acceptance, but they don't send rejections or waitlist until March.

From what I can tell, people have been getting accepted the second week following their interviews. This is probably altered due to Thanksgiving. Imo, it’s only feasible to chalk it up to an R/WL when people on your date or dates after have been accepted.

This is plausible but I also talked to a few current M1 and M2s here who got accepted a couple months after interviewing so I wouldn't say you are officially out of the running if you don't hear back after a few weeks.
