Hello! For those who DM'd me, I'm sorry for not replying. I had a block exam, so did not check SDN.
Yes, we got our Zoom link for virtual interviews about 1 week before. During that morning, you are told who your faculty interviewer is. It's up to you whether to do some quick research on them or do some light prep/rehearsal before your interviews.
For those who got a hold for a possible interview, it's not a soft R. They do take students from the hold list; although I'm not privileged to know the exact number. Sure, more students do not get off the list than those who do, so if you see that as a soft R, then it's your call. If Tulane allows you to upload update letters, I'd take the opportunity to do so. I'm not telling you to write an update letter every 2 weeks, but if you are interested in Tulane, then I don't think it will hurt your chances. Assuming you can upload letters, I'm not sure if your letters are read, as there are differing opinions about this. However, from the Admissions Committee perspective, let's say there are 5 candidates who are being held for interviews and you have 1 interview spot. If all other metrics are similar, would you give the spot to someone who sends periodic update letters or someone who you haven't heard from since submitting the secondary? I think the answer is pretty obvious here. Again, I'm not on Admissions Committee, so take my advice how you see fit. But, my point is that update letters will likely help rather than hurt your cause. (I'm assuming that your letters will be well-written, meaningful, free of grammar and spelling errors lol).
Good luck everyone and I hope to call you my classmate next year at TUSOM!
