They’re priced like any other private med school. Keck is the same, CUSM is $3k cheaper, Lima Linda is $65k. Med school is expensive.Priced like an IMG

no like 😭😭 why are we (mostly y’all) always arguingI’m so excited for how ratchet this first class will prob be. But In a good way lol
It’s giving proud family lmaono like 😭😭 why are we (mostly y’all) always arguing
Interesting. I assume this is why the program is being revamped, and most people with lower stats got rejected.^Thank you. Totally agree as I mentioned earlier y’all will see. UCLA prime and UCLA/ CDU gets priority easily over this new school. Before y’all come, I would say take a tour and don’t just pick solely because it’s an MD. Because when your applying to residency, an established institution looks better than a new school who’s still trying to figure out what’s going on. The curriculum won’t be the same either, a couple years ago they almost shut down the CDU/UCLA. This was because students were being admitted with lower stats and they didn’t do good on their step exams. After hard fighting they had to take a 360 to fix it before UCLA cut off the connection. I heard some CDU/UCLA staff aren’t even coming over to the new CDU because they want to live stress free-life.
You can wish for whatever you want. facts are people w/ lower stats got rejected from UCLA/CDU program this year. They have a hard cut off now. Most UCLA students have no clue about the new program and I am sure you don't either. My info is vetted. The resources I personally discussed are not exclusive to MEP students. They quite literally promote them for all CDU students when it is an opportunity for interprofessional networking and collaboration. I can think of plenty relating to research, community advocacy, and mentorship. When it is exclusively for MEP students, well no duh, there hasn't been a solo CDU program in decades!
Also, as someone who was a lower stat applicant GPA wise (downward trend, transcript riddled with C's and D's), I believe CDU is and will continue to be holistic. My peers are not the highest stat applicants at UCLA (but we damn sure aren't the lowest!) But we have a wealth of lived experience and dedication to the mission that made our admission possible.
I have no doubt that CDU will continue being holistic and taking into account the lived experiences of those they select. Yes all in all the school is underfunded, tuition is high, and resources are not top tier. But no ****. It is a new school in the hood, designed to help patients IN the hood.
If you don't want to go there then don't apply. Otherwise, please let those who do want to apply, who are perhaps in need of a caring and holistic review committee, and who would love an A, apply in peace.
Good luck to yall in this cycle, no matter where you end up.
And to the future CDU Class of 2027, we can't wait to meet yall 🖤💛
I think that is the million-dollar question. I don't think anyone can answer that. They will have 4 years to figure it out, and if they hit all the milestones, they should be good. However, this will be difficult since they are under-resourced, but not impossible. Will CDU have any trouble getting full accreditation?
Homie... I was heating up some popcorn in the microwave cuz this argument was getting juicy!Alright that was mean. Sorry. Deleted it.
ME, TOO!! 🤣Homie... I was heating up some popcorn in the microwave cuz this argument was getting juicy!![]()
Don't see what you put but was probably valid. Imagine the audacity of an applicant to proclaim that they know more about a med school and the admission process over an actual medical student at said school.Alright that was mean. Sorry. Deleted it.
Personally felt a little attacked by the "low-stat" comment because my stats WERE a product of struggle.
LAnative32, your concerns are valid. However, we do have access to internal communications with the dean and understand that there are plenty of struggles associated with the school's opening.
But, again we cannot view everything as 100% negative and have to understand that this school was born out of decades of seeing a problem and wanting to fix it.
Don't see what you put but was probably valid. Imagine the audacity of an applicant to proclaim that they know more about a med school and the admission process over an actual medical student at said school.
Anyways II yesterday so we'll see how it goes.
If you have already accepted an offer elsewhere, why spew negativity here. Some of us are still waiting for an acceptance and we realize CDU might not be the best but we applied here and some of us earned an interview here. Hearing all your subjective negativity with no evidence is tainting our prospects. Stop being bitter, you got an A. Take it, be happy and go into the abyssEveryone just needs to chill on the UCLA comparison. Those resources are only for UCLA/drew students. Right now the university is scrambling to try to find people, they know they ain't got enough faculty to cover another 60 students. UCLA students often complain that they don't get enough exposure in Clerkship and this is about to make it worse for them and the new MD program. they have few affiliations but still, need many more to fit in everyone. guess, who gets priority? UCLA. on paper it looks good, but everyone knows they are just going to go with the flow once the program starts. i most def not giving them my 70K. I have already accepted another offer but i just want to make sure yall know what you are getting into.
i'm 100% facts. MEP admission is more stats based. medical school admission process changes every year. No medical student would know much about it unless you were a part of adcom. the cdu md admission process is different from the MEP process. I'm currently a CDU student so I know because I know.Don't see what you put but was probably valid. Imagine the audacity of an applicant to proclaim that they know more about a med school and the admission process over an actual medical student at said school.
Anyways II yesterday so we'll see how it goes.
call it what you want its the truth. if you don't like it, probably shouldn't go to school here. just putting things out there so people know what they are getting into before they sign on the dotted line.If you have already accepted an offer elsewhere, why spew negativity here. Some of us are still waiting for an acceptance and we realize CDU might not be the best but we applied here and some of us earned an interview here. Hearing all your subjective negativity with no evidence is tainting our prospects. Stop being bitter, you got an A. Take it, be happy and go into the abyss
But what exactly have you told us first? Let me try and list them all here...got an invite and think you belong already. focus on getting accepted to the school first and then start talking. we will see whos right, just don't forget about who told you first
I specifically chose CDU/UCLA over full tuition scholarships elsewhere because I truly wanted to be in a cohort of diverse students.I think they are all valid concerns. Also I don’t think La Native took a shot he just stated a fact about the UCLA/CDU MEP program. He never talked about your low stat, he said “how can you talk about low stat if your mcat says otherwise”. Meaning lanative thinks you have a higher mcat than most applicants applying to CDU. Also it’s harder to speak especially, because let’s be 100 percent honest if they gave you CDU rather than Ucla/CDU I wonder if what your saying would be different….
Y'all brought out the mod in this school's first application cycle thread. We really are breaking records here 😆Where there is information, share it.
Where there is disagreement, do so with civility.

I don't think any admin will ever come here to tell you a school's deficiencies. I think everyone has valid points. I have heard many of these things myself from other people. I think we all just need to get along and share any information that would be beneficial for people to make their decision. But what exactly have you told us first? Let me try and list them all here...
1) CDU is a new school, underfunded, and will go through growing pains.Great... what new school doesn't go through this?2) CDU has a high COA and is located in a less desirable area.CA is expensive and I'm not sure how this is a slight against the institution. If it is outside of your price range, don't attend or apply. Location has been extensively discussed. It appears to be a mission first school so they should be opening the new school in the location with the demographics of people they hope to be helping.3) Being a new school with multiple other associated programs there will be a lack of resources, including rotation sites, resources, and professors.Unless you're admin, directly on the board of trustees, or are willing to expose your identity so we can understand your credentials this is just an opinion. This thread eerily resembles ICOM when it first opened its doors as a DO school. There was a lot of false information from "trusted sources" going around saying the school would fold, it's not trustworthy, or they won't have the resources to help students. Low and behold they are thriving with some impressive match results. Not sure if I missed anything, but I would take ANYTHING anyone other than verified admin/adcoms say on an anonymous internet forum with a grain of salt. The simple fact is we don't know how CDU is going to do. They are a new school, and with a new school there comes some risk. It's up to the applicant to weigh those risks and make a decision on where they are attending.
I had a school advertise itself as "We're the best school... for some people." Individuals make choices for different reasons. Not everyone cares to go to the "best" school, not everyone cares to do a competitive speciality, not everyone cares to be located in a major metropolitan. Sometimes we don't get a choice and we go to the only school that gives us a shot. Other times we are fortunate to have an opportunity to consider multiple paths. At the end of the day you're the person who lives with the "consequences." If you wake up in the morning and feel like you're where you're supposed to belong, then sounds like you made the right choice.I specifically chose CDU/UCLA over full tuition scholarships elsewhere because I truly wanted to be in a cohort of diverse students.
If given the choice, CDU/UCLA > CDU, yes, because as I've REPEATEDLY STATED, there are hurdles and roadblocks to the new school.
However, let's say CDU/UCLA is off the table (because, plot twist, it might be). I would 1000% choose CDU over many of the schools I was accepted to, especially now that I know about all of the resources, faculty, and camaraderie given at the school.
At no point in time have I EVER said this school was going to be the bestest, school ever. Instead, I implored you all to be patient with it and to show some kindness towards those applicants who would love to be there or are praying for an II or an A to ANY US school. And to give grace to a school that is trying hard to fill the gap in black and brown physician representation.
It may have been heated, but discourse nonetheless. **I** found the 2-3 perspectives helpful.Where there is information, share it.
Where there is disagreement, do so with civility.

i sent it to admissions n never received a reply so i don’t think they passed it on lol. if u have their individual emails id do that firstHello everyone, where did you send your thank you email? To admissions or to the individual people who interviewed you?
In the informational session, they mentioned that any correspondence should be sent to admissions. Highly unlikely you get a response.Hello everyone, where did you send your thank you email? To admissions or to the individual people who interviewed you?
was this at the information session?I couldn’t keep up with the dialogue but Dr Prothrow said this first class will need to have some grit. So to my non nphc community I recommend learning Invictus. And if you know it . I hope you learned it in a meaningful way
Yup, at the information session a few weeks agowas this at the information session?
OOS,because I want to match into a competive residency. And be prepared as much as possible since I’m paying a lot of money for my Medical Degree. But at the end of day you have to sit down and realize what are your goals. Then ask how will this school support my goals, will I thrive and be happy here.If you are from California and accepted to both Charles Drew and an established MD school that is OOS, but your family and S/O are both here in California, which school would you choose?
