2022-2023 Charles R. Drew University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So have they reached the 200-220? Interviewing for waitlist or the 60 seats still? I thought they were done interviewing.
They are past 200. Interviews were always expected to go thru March based on their timeline.
i think early feb they had 220 interviewees. like based on the form that they shared but they stopped sharing the form so we can no longer see. i am guessing they are at 250.

Ummm yalll. They updated the FAQs with the COA

I just read online that the other Michael Jordan celebrated his bday today by donating 10M to Make-A-Wish. Wish we could get these celebrities attention to donate to the inarguable class. wishful thinking

LMAO, now I understand why they are interviewing so many people holy crap. 🤣🤣🤣

I am going to catch so much heat for saying this, but having tuition prices this high and stating you are trying foster health equity for minorities in medicine is comical at best. No amount of grit is worth indebting yourself this much unless you are a rich URM or expect to use Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Looks like the UCLA/Drew students are getting experience working with LA's underserved community AND a reasonable tuition price

Oh, I’ll be a smooth $mil in debt by the end of residency if I go here.
And with the way Medicine is going, specifically insurance companies, doctors will have a hard time paying high debt off. Definitely hoping for a financial miracle sometime throughout the program for those accepted.

Did anyone receive a confirmation email after submitting their update letter?

Not sure if you are already aware, but private loans are not forgivable under PSLF. For those who didn't know:

Editing to add that it sounds like access to federal loans might be limited, so I figured sharing would be important. Hoping that's not the case.
To my understanding, the Dean said the medical students will be eligible for federal loans at the last community forum..

I don't recall her mentioning it.
If referring to the meeting 3 weeks ago, you're correct. They did not mention federal loans. They only said they are trying to secure as much scholarships as possible to relieve some of the debt burden. (i also just skimmed thru the meeting transcript to double check)

That said, I looked up other schools that currently hold preliminary and provisional LCME accreditation and it appears their students are able to apply for federal aid and obtain aid.

That just strengthens my point if the loans MUST be private. 450k in unforgivable loans that have a higher interest rate is financial suicide for muh broke ass. šŸ˜‚

However, thanks for correcting my statement on loan forgiveness because I don’t want to spread wrong info.

Did you guys watch their recent video on YouTube. Seems like they already have some prospective students starting in July or am I just over thinking it.

I saw that but i feel like they misspoke because the kid is still a junior and doesn't graduate from CDU Undergrad til 2024

Do you all think we have to stay on zoom for the entire duration (8:30AM-2:30PM) of the program this Friday? I may have to log off for work.
