Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar 2013-2014 Application Thread

Hey all!

I am an international student. I have finished my BS degree in Biology in the University of Balamand in Lebanon, and I am currently applying to Cornell in Qatar. My GPA is 3.2, however, I was ranked second on my class, with an MCAT Score of 33Q (12 PS, 11 BS, 10 VR). I have loads of extracurricular activities, and I have a 2 months research assistant experience in Cancer Genetics. I am currently taking a few medical courses as well.

My question is, I realize that WCMC-Q only takes one or two international students every year, so I would like to inquire about the STATS of the INTERNATIONAL students who were either accepted or even called for an interview. If anyone has such information, that would be wonderful.

I wonder if I can at least get an interview date with my scores.

hi foramenovale, I am applying to this year's batch too. I'm also an international student, from Singapore, and I think our stats are very comparable. GPA 3.27, MCAT 34Q. I just received a skype interview invite scheduled for this sunday. Thrilled and nervous! :/

Hi foramenovale,

I would think they are still interviewing! They give very short notice, I was informed 4 days before the Skype pre-interview. Yesterday (13 days after my Skype interview), I received the invite to Doha for interview day. Short notice too, gotta fly in 2-3 weeks time, with 4 date options to choose from. So yes, interviews are still ongoing, I suppose once you hear from them it goes fast and furious.

How did it go with you? Did you feel they're cooperative regarding that our GPA is below their average?

ah i remember now, they did ask abit about my grades, like why was there a dip in a particular semester.. they didn't say anything to suggest i had a low gpa. but they asked me how big was my cohort, what percentage of them graduated first class... i suppose to get an idea of how tough my course was, and where i stand. looks like they are very understanding about the inter-school course variability and they will definitely take it into consideration. no worries!
about my own performance, i was honestly pretty nervous... it was alot more formal than i had expected. at the end of it i couldn't really get a sense of whether they would take me... haha. nervous and made prominent fumbles, but i still tried my best to answer with honesty and sincerity and i guess they appreciated that.
