Did anyone that was complete around or after the middle of August receive an interview yet? Here's to hoping they still haven't gotten to me yet and I still have a chance, lol.

Just got my interview invitation for 9/12 and was complete the second week of August. It's my first and it's more that I could have hoped for.

Congrats everyone that got an interview!!! Holy cow. This is amazing. 🙂

That's what I'm hoping :scared: - I wasn't complete until yesterday.

i was complete on 8/26 and got the invitation to interview on 8/27 for 9/18. i was really surprised at the quick turn over. especially since so many schools say it'll take so long to get back to people.

Hopkins Invite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHH!!!! Can't believe their sending out invites! Congrats to all! So I'm still waiting to be listed complete!!!!! They recieved my paper secondary on 7/29, so it's been a whole month! And my letters were posted via VE earlier than that. I'm still not complete. Anyone else in this situation?!?

Yep, it was well over a month (7 weeks) until I was complete.

To those who've been invited, did they email you stuff about SNMA? I'm just wondering if they sent that to everyone in general or if they actually went through and selected for the minority applicants.

To those who have been invited: Are you guys choosing Option A or Option B for accommodations?

The pdf document makes it seem like, by choosing B over A, you are forgoing close contact with the students. But I would think that being in Reed at all, even if in your own room, would facilitate a lot of student contact. I want to stay in Reed but not if it means less contact with students. Is it possible to choose option A and particularly request a student living in Reed Hall? For me this would be ideal.

What do you all think?

Good Christ. JHU's questions are worse than Duke's. At least Duke gave me room to answer. 900 characters on ."a situation where you had to overcome adversity; include lessons learned and how you think it will affect your career as a future physician."

Are they kidding?
.

I was complete 7/30 🙁

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you are shemarty... getting worried about this one. I'm currently reassessing whether my secondary essays to Hopkins were horrible or not. 🙁

But congrats to everyone that has gotten an interview!!! 🙂

i chose B.... my flight is coming in late and leaving pretty early so it seemed easier to stay in a private room... plus while I love student contact, I want to get ready for my interview in private.... and I might wander the building so I think I will be fine... what did you choose?

I think I'm going to go ahead and choose B too. I just can't imagine that I wouldn't find any students to talk to around Reed. I'll probably meet more at Reed than at a one student's home. Plus, its practically on top of the admissions office, so I could just walk there the next day. Also, they're doing all of those events at Reed, so why not?

For you 9/12 interviewees, does it feel nice knowing we will be aware of almost 1/3 of the group vying for matriculation? Hopefully we all are accepted!

Congrats to all with interviews already! We are one week into first year and its great so far, my classmates are awesome!
Regarding sleeping arrangments for interviews: you'll definitely be able to see students staying in Reed singles, and the admissions office is just down the street, however, be prepared to stay in a tiny, not at all nice room. The singles are really not great, so make sure you get to see the suites (where more first years live) and don't go in with high expectations for your room.

i chose to stay in reed too. a friend of mine lives there and i'm going to meet up with him, so i'm not that concerned about talking to students. also, i second the person above who said they wanted time alone to get ready and stuff. for those attending the gatherings the night before the interview, what are people wearing? dare i hope it's a jeans and t-shirt event?

So I sent in my paper application on 7/31 and still haven't gotten a complete email. Should I start worrying?

I cannot go to the thursday dinner, but I will see you all friday. rplyer1 was pretty obvious. CuyahogaMD2B was a bit more difficult. TheVerve was easy too. And frankly, I will be pretty easy to pick out too. Good luck guys, this is going to be fun. Except for you rplyer, because you "live" in baltimore.

Nope, they had received my paper secondary and LOR's by 7/31 and I'm still not complete. It takes them a LONG time.

I would like to remind the interviewees that the new season of Dr. House starts on 9/16 8/7 PM central.

If asked whether if you knew any JHU alumnus, make sure you say YES!

I think that the Thursday night thing is more of a casual hangout with snacks than a dinner. I am planning on coming over for it.

Good luck everyone......:luck:

You don't like my extremely deceptive username?

So i submitted my app back in the end of June, and my LORs were sent at the end of July. I know Hopkins takes forever to process, but is it worth trying to contact them to see if they are missing anything? They are the hardest people to contact by phone/email.

yeah they're not very friendly over the phone either. i just became complete today...

I am still at BWI🙁
The interviews went well. Rplyler1 and md2be looked very sharp. I don't know if my interviewers were as impressed as they appeared.

Also, there were two funny comments of the day for 9/12.

"It's not how big your endowment is, but how you use it"
"Look at all those sausages" (All 12 of us got off the elevator at JH Hospital)

To those that are taking forever to be complete. I sent all of my necessary letters in by 8/18 and I called this week. When I did they said I had been marked complete two weeks ago and I should have gotten an email. I pressed the issue and they said that they didn't know but would look into it. About 10 minutes later I received an email saying that I had entered my first and last name in the wrong slots on the secondary (I had reversed them). And so the computer wasn't finding my email address or something like that. But it's all fixed now. So if you're taking forever to be complete I would give them a call to see if maybe that happened to you as well.

Hey, anyone know what the accepted/interviewed rate is at Hopkins?

For all of you that have interviewed already, was the informal night-before meeting helpful?

I was told 50%, but I am not holding my breath for an acceptance at this point (Unlike Wright State, which apologized that they had to wait until Oct 15 to tell me)

Hey, anyone know what the accepted/interviewed rate is at Hopkins?

The night-before thing was enjoyable, but in no way necessary. However you might find out something interesting about the school that you can later use in your interview.

Also, I was told that about 1/3 get accepted, 1/3 get waitlisted, and 1/3 get rejected. I also heard that like 40 students were pulled off of the waitlist last year. Therefore the chances of getting in at any time during the process are like 40-45%.

Rplyler1, I think your waitlist numbers are a little high for last year--for some reason, not many of us made it off compared to previous years. The good/bad news is that the waitlist moves until the very last minute. I know this isn't what you guys want to be hearing now--it's not even October 15th yet!--but the whole process varies from year to year.

The night before the interview thing is great because the stress level is low. One thing that medical school teaches you quickly is that people behave differently in high stress/school settings, so meeting current med students and fellow interviewees on a purely social level is an accurate indicator of real personality. As an added bonus, we have an exam coming up next week so it's a good way to see how Hopkins med students react to the constant pressure of medical school...and besides, they're volunteering their time away from studying to get to know you guys. Plus there's free food. But seriously, what better way to prepare for an interview than to get current medical students' perspectives (rather than what the school's PR has told you)?

Either way, good luck (just relax!!) and maybe I'll see you guys touring around...

One last word of advice: Hopkins likes it cold. Bring a jacket.

...I'm just wondering why it is looking through the profiles of people who got interviews on this thread and through the MDapplicants website why it is I decided to bother applying to Hopkins in the first place...oh well.

Congratulations and good luck to all of you.

anyone else still waiting for a complete email...?

anyone else still waiting for a complete email...?

I haven't gotten one yet. I sent in my secondary via mail on 8/24 and my LORs around the same time.

hmm....

i got the "Thank you for your application!" email on 7/28 and the "Receipt of Johns Hopkins Secondary Application" email on 8/7.

has anyone else been waiting that long?

maybe i should give them a call...

Need a little guidance with listing ECs in the JHU secondary:

If I played basketball and preseason was ~12 hrs/wk from Sept.-nov. and the season was ~18 hrs/wk from nov.-march do I need to list each four times?
ex. Dates 9/2004- 11/2004 preseason
11/2004-3/2005 season
9/2005-11/2005 preseason . . .

Thanks
