Yea Like so many of you I was ingloriously given the code for go somewhere else called hold :barf:

While I really loved RFUMS I will take solace in the fact that my state school is only like 20,000 not 65,000 but that is cold comfort +pissed+

collas mockery,

It is very unlikely they interviewed you for a hold spot. They most probably interviewed you for a real spot. These people are busy and probably wouldn't waste there time interviewing for hold spots. Furthermore, if this you felt this was the case, you should have called or emailed before the interview inquiring as to whether they were interviewing for real spots or not.

well we have only seen one acceptance since mid of March on these forums ...

I haven't posted in months, but just wanted to let you all know that some BMS students received acceptances today (I'm one of them 🙂). Not sure how many. Good luck to those on hold or still waiting to hear back.

Can we try to ask them our rank on the Hold List? They also mentioned in the email that they will send a "letter" to update us regarding our status? Thats a bit old school, no?

I understand more than anyone the frustration of not knowing, but you're coming off very bitter about this school. It ain't easy, worthy student or not. Don't let yourself get bitter, just become more perseverant and determined. It's a all a learning experience....life in discovery, remember? hah, corny, but it actually works. As can be seen from this whole process, nothing is ever guaranteed or known for sure. I've never heard of a school interview for a hold spot, but for a waitlist spot? Yes, MCW is notorious for that, even for spots for the following year! Craziness, I know, but you're not yet on the waitlist, just the "hold" list. I don't believe there's an "order," exactly, for the hold list, but probably for the waitlist. I've also heard of schools having different policies on even following that order, so it really doesn't matter a whole lot in the end. You can call to verify, but I think you'd be wasting your time.

Also, as per the letter, every school does things differently, and they keep seeming to vary. The letter is likely the "final decision" kind of update. Personally, I think it is only respectful to get a hard copy of either the rejection / acceptance, in the end. Frankly, I'm a little offended by the schools that don't do this, but that's just me. And for the most part, a lot of schools will tell you this by both snail mail and email, in the end anyways. I doubt they'd send you a letter about anything else.

I have been on hold since march. i have not gotten my hold update yet this month. but it is really looking like there will not be any more acceptances until spots open. hopefully in may we will start to hear about more acceptances. or even better, hopefully this month :xf: :luck:

I understand where you are coming from. But I was not expecting this for my 35R on MCAT (I was also put on alternate list at Jeff). And my interview also seemed to be excellent ... it is probably cuz I am international student. Well lets wait and see how future unfurls itself as we get closer and closer to May 15th.

Hello all.

Just to let you know, they did send out at least some acceptances today. I interviewed on 3/29 and recieved an offer this afternoon by email. I will be withdrawing my application as I recently got into my first choice at Loyola.

And this is my very first acceptance too! I'M SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!! This means that next fall, I'm gonna be a medical school student! (Instead of wasting another year trying to reapply.) And it's not just any medical school I got into, Rosalind is one of the schools that I definitely liked!

WOO HOO!!!

Congrats. When did you interview?

Withdrew my application from CMS... It was a tough decision... but I hope one of you guys get it..

congrats to all the acceptances!! i was wondering though about the people on hold... it seems like this year they didnt accept alot of people who were on hold for a while....

Congratulations to those who just got the fat packets!👍👍

RFU doesn't send a fat packet though! you just get a letter about your acceptance as well as an email. i know that UIC gives you a fat packet which means your accepted! 🙂

and those who withdrew their application because they want to go elsewhere, good luck to where you go!!! 👍

thanks for withdrawing from the school too.. maybe a friend of mine has a chance here!! he is on post interview hold!

So I know that no one proly knows anything for sure, but I was wondering what it means that I got another hold a few days ago. Any insight would help. Are there still a lot of people on hold and odds are that only a very small percentage will actually get accepted? Or are they keeping a lot of spots open still until everyone has interviewed? I would love to know if these hold are just giving me a false sense of having a chance since I havnt been rejected yet.

what a hold means at RFU is that, at the recent meeting of the committee, they decided to not accept or reject you at that meeting. Typically the committee meets once a month to decide which applicants to accept, reject, or put on hold. it seems like when a person interviews, they have a best chance for an acceptance if they get the acceptance offer within a month or two of their interview. i think that there are alot of people who are on hold for many months now. i hope in the end, that the people on hold get an acceptance, but it all depends with the committee.

another reason why most people are on hold also could be that, many students are holding on to their spots if they are accepted. as more people withdraw their application it could move some people from a hold to a possible acceptance. it was nice to hear that some people got an acceptance towards the end of April when they interviewed in the beginning of April. also, there are many good students who have been accepted to other schools, but put on hold here.

Hey guys, I traveled and had no internet for 4 days so I missed out on all the action here. I was placed on hold for the 2nd month, but I am still optimistic. The fact that I was not rejected is good and makes me happy. I'll keep praying and believing for an acceptance. If you are in my shoes, (on hold), don't give up! For those of you who have been accepted, CONGRATULATIONS!!! You will do well in medical school!

But seriously, you shouldn't take any of this stuff personally. The med school application process is EXTREMELY random (stemming from a million possible sources of randomness, such as simple paperwork mix ups, getting assigned to an interviewer who you don't have chemistry with, if the director of admissions just happens to be in a bad mood when your file comes up for review, etc.). There are some people who have relatively low GPA, low MCAT scores, and mediocre extracurriculars, yet they wind up getting accepted into a couple of schools. Meanwhile some other people have gargantuan GPA, MCAT, and extracurrics, yet they wind up not getting accepted to any schools.

You have to look at it as a lottery, and nothing else. Every point on your GPA, MCAT, and experiences, each point just buys you one extra additional lottery ticket. So the better your stats and experiences, then the more lottery tickets you're holding in your hand, but they're still only just lottery tickets. The more points you have, the better your chances are of getting accepted, but there's so much randomness in the process that not getting accepted is really not a reflection on who you are or how good your application was. Just keep your chin up, and hope for the best. But if the worst happens and you don't get accepted anywhere, you need to realize that it doesn't say anything bad about you, and you just need to figure out some ways to improve your standings so that when you reapply for next year your chances are even better.

i posted my stats becuz whenever I read someone got accepted/rejected im interested to know what their stats were. That way I can gauge my chances based on my own stats. anyhow, i guess its for a reason. just gotta take it in stride. thanks for the thoughtful reply tho, seriously it is appreciated. good luck everyone with the rest of the app season

Doc, I never quite saw it this way. Very thoughtful of you to write this. One of my professors told me that the day he interviewed (many, many years ago) at a particular med sch, there was another applicant's file hidden within his file. They shared the same last name. The poor guy wld have been rejected if my prof did not insist on having the admissions office call him for an interview. The error was corrected and the guy got accepted with my prof. Such random events certainly do happen due to no fault of applicants.

Hi Maiden, I am so glad you came back to this thread. I was really worried about what happened. I ended up withdrawing from CMS, so one more spot has opened. I really really hope you make it dude. Please keep us posted. Best of luck! 👍

P.S. When you are travelleing next time, please make sure you have access to the internet!! lol

Yeah, that's *exactly* the type of thing I'm talking about. There are literally millions of different random elements that can effect whether you get accepted or rejected at a school.

Maybe your file slipped behind a radiator and wasn't even found until it was already too late.

Maybe an office worker input the wrong date into your file on their computer system and so your name never even came up on their list of applicants to review.

Maybe their printer was low on ink when they printed your application and so your file had an unreadable page in your app, so they pushed it aside into the "problem" pile, never to be seen again.

Maybe the particular ad com member doing the primary review of your file is against stem cell research for religious reasons, and you have stem cell research listed as your main research experience.

Maybe the ad com member reviewing your file is recently divorced, and your photo reminds them of what their ex-spouse looks like, so it subconsciously gives them a very negative reaction to your application.

etc. etc. etc.

There is an enormous amount of randomness in the med school application process, so a rejection really can't be taken as a reflection of who you are or how good your app was. All you can do in this process is try to maximize your chances, take your shots, and then see where the cards land.
