how long does RFU usually take to send out secondaries? I was verified on Aug 6th.

I added them on July 29, received their secondary on Aug 6, mailed it to them with the fee on Aug 14, and got an e-mail today (Aug 17) that they are in receipt of my secondary and fee.

So I guess to answer your question, about a week... at least in my case.

I was waiting patiently till now but its been too long so I emailed them to check if my application is complete. I wonder how they keep thousands of applications organized. They should really adopt an online system. For all anyone knows our application could be lost or have coffee spilled on it and no one would know or care. =(

Don't bother calling or emailing, she won't respond to you.

I had to go through this experience last year, so just a word of advice.

Good luck everybody. I think I speak for everybody at RFUMS when i say this, this should ONLY be your safety school. For most of us, this was our only MD acceptance. LMAO

yes, they actually send you a different email saying that your application is complete and is under review.

I am faculty at a different Medical school. My daughter is a student at RFU and the curriculum is clinically oriented, and does prepare the students for those Boards.

Faculty at other Chicago schools have told me that RFU students are competitive and similarly prepared compared with the other Chicago schools. I have mentored an RFU student last year at my school, and he was second to none in enthusiasm and knowledge.

RFU is not just a safety school, it has earned the respect of other medical schools through its preparation of well trained graduates. The match list proves this.

I am certain bizlove voices a minority opinion.

I think it helps to actually contact this school regarding completeness. I was verified mid-June, LoR's were uploaded to AMCAS in late July, and most schools sent me a complete email within a week.

With RFU, I sent the admissions office an email and within 2 hours, I received a "You are complete" email. They may not take the initiative, but if you ask them nicely, they tend to respond just as nicely.

The school is accredited for 185 students. 60 of those spots are reserved for the BMS program. So, in reality the number of seats is 125. I really don't see why anyone who is an outsider should apply here, if you want to waste 130 dollars. Go ahead.

I actually don't care for being here. I mean I know my ugrads were pretty ****ty but I paid 35,000 dollars for a second chance where I did prove them that I was far superior than their average students. So, thus I am here.

Holy ****, they made a 1,040,000 dollars just of application fees because they don't screen applicants. I really don't understand where all of this money goes, I mean I don't see any improvements to the school. Makes me wonder, hmmmm

I think it means that as a doc you'll be working with pharmacists, nurses, dieticians, physical therapists, etc. when taking care of patients and creating a path towards recovery.

They don't have a website for status check. If you are curious about your status, I would suggest calling instead because email is sort of hit-or-miss. Some of my emails never got replies, and some got replies 20 minutes later. When I called, the really nice and friendly lady marked me complete while we were on the phone! It's worth the call.

Yeah, definitely contact them. I called but forgot that they're only open for phone calls Mon, Wed, and Fri (at least I believe that was RF... hmm). So I e-mailed them last night and planned on calling today if I had to, but I received a complete e-mail about 30 mins ago. 👍

Did anyone apply to CMS Early Decision? I did and was verified right away, got the complete email and am just waiting (hopefully) for an interview invite. They say that we're supposed to hear by Oct. 1 but I see that no one has gotten an interview invite so I wonder whether they'll be able to meet that deadline or not...

i did most of the secondaries in late september/early october. in other words, one year ago today i was sitting around waiting for my amcas to be verified (and i wasn't in a rush either). if you have sent in your apps already, you have a leg up on me.

on the other hand, the application process is so unpredictable that you cannot take anything for granted regardless of your situation. there are many cases with two people that have eerily similar stats and ECs, but one of them will end up reapplying while the other will get multiple acceptances. all i can figure about this process is that way too much depends on who reads your application and what kind of mood they are in that particular day.

luckily for you, we get to leave campus for third and fourth years. but, now that i think about it, it shouldn't really matter how you feel about the program you are in. the fact is, we're both in medical school, on our way to becoming MDs, and that is what you should really care about.

regarding the BMS program: that is alot of reserved spots (a number ive never heard before actually), but it does give some late-bloomers a chance to correct their mistakes and realize their dreams. and regarding the money, you think $1 mil is alot? hardly. they bring in around 30x that amount every year on CMS tuition alone.

I was verified mid June and applied for RFU back in June and still haven't gotten their secondary. I think they're just very slow.

Also, does anyone know what the campus is like? I find it sketchy that I can't find a single picture of their campus on their website, not even in their viewbook. Is it in a more dangerous part of town? Because that + their slowness in getting the secondary to me is making me re-consider even applying.

The campus is about 45 minutes north of Chicago, between a somewhat sketchy suburb to the north and a highly affluent one (first place I've seen a Bentley dealership) to the south.

The buildings themselves are nice but somewhat bland. The older building was built in 1980 or so and the newer one is about 10 - 15 years old.

Hmm...your MD apps wouldn't let me comment directly on it so I'll just put it here, I hope you don't mind. Your verbal score and GPA for MD schools is on the low side, but it may still be worth applying especially to IL schools. As long as you write really good essays and can explain why your grades are a little on the low side you may just get an invite, you never know. Having said that, I think you make a much more competitive DO candidate and you will probably have pretty good luck with that. I would say that you should pursue all options until you have an acceptance in hand, then drop schools you're not so interested in. Yeah money gets tight and that sucks, but that way you give yourself the best shot to be accepted this application cycle, so you don't have to spend a lot of time, money, and energy doing this all over again. Good luck with all your apps and be positive, if you're really dedicated to medicine it will show and you will get in somewhere 🙂

if u are planning on applying to med school with those stats RFU is as good as any other school. Go ahead and do so.

So the actual number of seats is 125 approximately. The average MCAT and GPA of the BMS students is mid 20s and 3.3.

So in order to keep their stats above, the school takes in more qualified students with higher MCATs and GPA to average their numbers out to 3.5 and 30, mostly from California because its a bitch to get into medical school in Cali. They're overflowing with qualified candidates.


You have a snowball's shot in hell with those stats at this school.

Hmm, if you have good EC's, I would try. I think this school focuses more on the person rather than just numbers, but I'm not too sure. The post above mine makes me think otherwise.

The lady explained to me that theres literally 2 people in the admissions office, and its not electronic so they don't get some big notice saying OH IM COMPLETE. Kinda felt really bad cause admissions people usually have the "I have my job" vibe on the phone but she was really nice.

2nd thing, about the averages, 3 people I know had sub 30 MCATS (27, 27, 29) but stronger GPAs 3.7-3.9, and they got in. They literally got in like..1 month-2 weeks before school started but they got in, so it's definitely possible.
