small pooled today.

trying to explain wtf small pooled means to my parents is going to be a pain. My mother still doesn't grasp "screening".
"OK, Mom. So you're at the doctor's office except the waiting room is a kiddie pool. There's some pee in there and some people that you really don't think should be seeing the doctor. Then the receptionist comes out and calls some people back to the smaller exam rooms that have very comfortable jacuzzis while you wait. Very few people see the doctor before getting sent to the exam room to wait in the jacuzzi. When you get there, you know it's just a matter of time before you see the doctor at that point."

BAM! How could it not be clearer? 😀

when they pick applicants to small-pool, do they do a bunch at once or is it random? i was submitted 9/22, complete 10/23 and waiting to be pooled...

That's perfectly clear to a normal person. My mother, bless her heart, would probably ask why there was a jacuzzi at the doctor's office...

hahaha man, your mom must rock.

EDIT: sweeet, just noticed you're a fellow Illini! I-L-L!

Yea my small-pool-parent-talk didn't make it that easy either.

Last week:
--Them: "So how is the application process going?"
Me: "just a few small pool notifications"
--Them: "Ah, but nothing really promising yet?"
Me: "Not yet, still hoping"

--Them: "Anything new on the applications?"
Me: "Nope. But at least I got that small pool last week"
--Them: "Wait... what?"
Me: "I got small pooled... I mentioned it like twice last week"
--Them: "WOW IS THAT LIKE AN INTERVIEW!!!!!!1111!!"
Me: "no... i thought we discussed this"
/facepalm

lollll i love this small-pool talk.. my parents just got super excited as did I but i got no news since so next time im small pooled ill wait before i speak so quickly..

Just withdrew and cancelled my interview. Hope someone here gets it!!! Good luck!

so what do we think? are we going to start hearing back today??

I was barely had a chance to sit in the small pool. I got in interview invite today. weee!😀

Has anybody taken the metra from a station called the O'hara transfer? Was it easy enough to find after getting off your flight? I am having so much trouble figuring our how to get to this school... Any input would be very much appreciated!

Signs should point the way at O'Hare. If you still can't find it they have a travel desk by baggage that can help you out!

Instead of all the stress with figuring out the train and all that, I just took Airport Express. About 40 bucks each way. They have a station near baggage claim in the airport and will drop you off in front of the school or at the hotel. You can also make reservations for them to pick you up at the school after the interview and go straight to the airport. The driver was reliable and actually came 20 minutes before my reservation time to pick me up.

How do you arrange this? I was going to rent a car just for the day but this sounds like a pretty good plan.

Does anyone know what the approximate timeline is to go from complete to small-pooled?

I think it varies a lot. for me, I was emailed the complete notice 9/9 got small-pooled 10/5 and got an interview 10/8.

It is super variable. I got an interview the day after I was small pooled. Some people have been small pooled for a month +

Here's the link to book reservations:

http://www.airportexpress.com/shuttles/airport-transfers.html

There's a coupon on there somewhere, too ^_^. Oh, just for extra information, you're gonna be in the van with other passengers, so it might take a little more time for them to drop you off at your destination. Otherwise, everything was great.

That does sound like a great deal! I should definitely look into it too. But if I use a shuttle, wouldn't a still end up getting stuck in traffic? I've heard awful things about the roads there, which is why I"m trying to really use the metra instead. Argh, so nervous about this trip!

Hey, that's what I was afraid of too, but it didn't turn out so bad. It took him only 30 or 40 minutes to get from RFU to the airport after the interview.

thanks for sharing - that sounds great, I really hope it works out so easily for me too.

they had their first meeting on friday, so we should be hearing soon about decisions, i interviewed on the 5th of october.

Is this good?

Dear Applicant,

Your file is complete and has passed a primary screening. This means you are in the pool of applicants who may be invited to interview with CMS. However, this does not guarantee an invitation and you may be invited to interview or declined an interview at anytime during the admissions process.

CMS is interviewing from September- May, with invitations being sent out via email. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,

CMS Admissions

Is this good?

Yeah that's a good sign. You got small pooled. People who get interviewed are pulled from that group of applicants. Mind if I ask how long it took between being complete and receiving this email?

I interviewed 10/26. Did they indicate if we would be evaluated then with your group or no? If so that will be like a 2 week turn around instead of 6. Notification is via Email for everything but rejection I believe, so no news is bad news.

I was complete 10/1 and got small pooled today! Hope for a quick turn around on the interview like some of you got 🙂

did you get a separate "complete" email first or was this first notice?

Sorry about the delayed response.

Supplemental Received - 8/12
Application Complete - 10/1
Small Pool - 11/2

My application should have been "complete" on 8/12, I don't know what took them so long.

i hope today's the day they start sending out acceptances..:luck:

ya seriously man, last year they sent them out on october 29th.

Anyone interviewing next week? I'm excited and anxious. This is my first ever American interview and I'm really psyched. Not too sure what to expect as a Canadian. I spent a few hours trying to learn the different aspects of the American system (HMOs, PPOs, POSs), it's a bit tricky...

I was complete 8/21 (and only because I emailed them asking about it), then small-pooled 9/17. Haven't heard a peep since....
