that would be today.
Just got a rejection letter (this is pre-interview) via email.
Dear Mr. X:

The Committee on Admissions has carefully reviewed your application to the first year class entering Weill Cornell Medical College. We regret to notify you that, due to the very keen competition for a limited number of places in the class, we are unable to offer you a position in our first year class entering in August 2011.

As you are well aware, all medical schools receive applications from far more individuals than can possibly be accepted. This year, fifty-five hundred candidates applied for the one hundred and one positions available in our entering class; thus, less than two percent of all applicants can enroll. The decision not to offer you a place in the class should not be construed as an indication that the Committee does not consider you qualified for a career in medicine. It is the unfortunate result of the very strong competition for the limited number of positions in the Class of 2015.

Thank you for your interest in Weill Cornell Medical College. We wish you every success in the pursuit of your future medical career.

Sincerely yours,

Charles L. Bardes, M.D.
Associate Dean (Admissions)
Chair, Committee on Admissions
Professor of Clinical Medicine

I'm sorry to hear about the rejection - I can definitely relate. I didn't get one; is this a "mass" rejection e-mail a la GWU? What time did you get it, and when were you complete at Cornell? Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear that honey, thats just one of many though. I know my rejections made me super depressed thus far but now I'm trying to see each one as a stepping stone to the right one. Great things are still to come!! thanks for posting.

i will not be checking my email anymore today...:scared::scared::scared:

Sorry to hear that dude.

Looks like so far the rejections are confined to July completions...

Though 5500 applications for 101 spots obviously presents daunting odds of interview/acceptance, GPA and MCAT only demonstrate a small portion of a person's application.

Among the people I know, Cornell has a reputation for taking non-traditional applicants, valuing backgrounds/perspectives heavily, and having a particular image of their class's composition they remain faithful to.

I certainly can't speak to this applicant - who does have stellar stats - but just because people with 40 and 4.0 are rejected doesn't mean people who lower scores have no chance. Keep the faith!

This. If you check my mdapps, you will see I have nowhere near a 4.0 and 40+ but still got an interview. Whether it was my EC's, unique background and life story or essay, I dunno. But they definitely don't just look at your numbers so.

My intention was not to scare anyone. I didn't even want to post my stats honestly but did so at the request of another forum member. Once you get to the top 25, the competition is so strong that even with perfect stats, you need to somehow be interesting. Just because someone has lower stats than me doesn't mean he or she has a significantly lower chance at getting an interview. I am fortunate enough to have been invited to similarly competitive schools. I also was rejected/silently rejected by a couple of other less competitive schools. That brings me to my other point. This process is 70% luck. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!

Oh, I didn't think you were. I completely agree - the top 25-30 schools are absurdly competitive and there is no particular rhyme or reason by which people are selected. Success or lack thereof at one school normally has little bearing on how one will fair at similarly-regarded (or ranked) institutions.

In the thread of another top-20 school, one poster vented in frustration why s/he didn't get an invite from this particular school when they were interviewed and even accepted at peer institutions. It was kind of shocking evidence that some people develop a sense of entitlement in this process, an absurd attitude to take when dealing with this caliber of school.

Additionally, as I alluded to previously, several top schools are known for being numbers heavy whereas others manage to get classes with great stats but operate much more around the type of class and candidate they want. Each school looks for different things in candidates.

I wasn't calling you out, I was really talking to the person who gave themselves no chance. At this point, no news is good news. And, at Cornell, apparently who you are and what you've done are just as important as your MCAT and GPA.

Congrats on your interviews!

Well I just quoted you because your post was the most recent. Anyways, I personally don't think there is any school out there that is truly a numbers *****. Even at WashU withough significant research the odds aren't that great for the high stats people. And at UMich auto-invites are only extended to those from particular undergrads.
I've yet to see a true numbers ***** (based on mdapps), and I don't think they really exist, though obviously some schools value numbers more than others.

Nevermind, looked up the answer, myself.

Just want to know if any one who was rejected today was granted an interview

"The Committee meets on a regular basis and discusses the applicants who have been interviewed. Decisions regarding acceptance are made by consensus of the Committee. While some students are accepted in mid-December, most are accepted in early March."

I stand corrected. Interesting. I had resigned myself to waiting to March. I guess I'll see if I hear from them this month then.

Last year it was Dec 29.
Someone correct me b/c I think I'm wrong, but I feel like it was for a tiny minority of people -- something like ~20 acceptances?
And mostly URMs & stellar stat people?

Those of you who wrote ITA emails: were you all ITA for other interviews? If I'm from CA and going to be ITA for other reasons, does it still make sense to send a letter?

Also, did anyone who was complete later than July receive the no-go letter today? I was complete in October and don't know what to think. No signs from any schools yet... 🙁

Definitely makes sense. I said that I would be in town for another interview, but I don't think it matters what your reasons for being there are.

I just said: I am planning a visit to XXX in the first week of XXX... I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to interview and discuss my... yadayada

But even if you don't tell them you have other interviews in the area, they will simply assume so... (IMO this is a more subtle way to show that you are in demand)

Completed August 12, received the rejection today.

*big sigh* Just received the rejection. Not surprised, my gpa is really low for the school - was hoping my mcat and having been an employee there and an LOR from an attending/faculty member would have helped. Cornell was my absolute top choice, but I'm not surprised, it was a 1 in a million shot.

Complete late August.

Good luck everyone else! Its a great school and environment so hopefully you get in.

Sorry to hear that dude, but congrats on your other NY acceptance!!

I was complete 9/3 but haven't heard anything. When do you all think it is a legitimate time to send an "I am still very interested" letter? If it's relevant, my stats and such are comfortably within their ranges.

Has anyone besides Cole sent an in the area e-mail and got an interview out of it? If so, how far before your interview date did you get the invite?

I'm just wondering how long I should wait before booking my plane ticket. My other interview in NYC is on Jan 11, so I'm thinking if I don't hear anything from Cornell by Christmas I'll go ahead and book my flight.

If you're interested - let them know. I don't think there are any "wait at least a day or two before calling back" after meeting someone/a date with med schools. If your interest is sincere and they're high on your list, express your interest to them, especially now that they're rolling out rejections this month.

I sent an ITA email and received an interview. However, I didn't hear back immediately so I thought it was a no-go and booked my ticket. Two weeks before my NY trip, I receive an invite from Cornell (yaaay!) so I was forced to tweak my travel schedule and pay a fee. No complaints, I LOVED Cornell, but that was the situation.

:luck: I hope an interview comes through for you!

I'm thinking of sending an ITA email even though i'm not..... just to see. Anyone ever do this?

I sent an ITA email and recieved a confirmation and and invite the next day as well. I think I did this sometime in late september early october. Cornell seems really receptive to these.

Hey! How long did it take for them to invite you after you sent the email?

Why wouldn't I? I thought Cole did the same thing?
