Wait there's a deadline??? I've been sitting around twiddling my thumbs as if I had time :scared:

I don't have mine done yet either because I am still waiting on my tax information. Oh W2's....

I'm sure this has been addressed.... but I couldn't find it.

Where does loma linda prefer LOI to be sent? I'm sure its just their usual e-mail but for those who have asked... whats the dealio yo?

You can submit it even if you don't have all your tax information submitted, you can just estimate and then correct it when everything is filed (that's what I did)....

The problem for me is I am not sure what to estimate just yet. Hopefully this weekend.

So ... I completed my FAFSA using estimated tax information, submitted it and filled out the secondary forms LLU asked for after receiving my FAFSA info. Immediately after submitting the secondary financial aid forms 3 more forms I'm supposed to fill out popped up, at least one requiring printing, physically signing (by both me and my parents who are 1500 miles away), then mailing or faxing. They're also requesting actual copies of signed tax returns - which I haven't filed yet. So I echo nigerdoc7's question - does anyone know if they actually need all these signed documents by March 2nd in order to have a shot at all sources of financial aid? 😕

Truthfully, this seems a little nuts - I've gotten the acceptance phone call but I haven't even received my acceptance packet in the mail yet.

No kidding. It seems a little ridiculous to me too.

My dad and I decided that it was probably a bit much to ask for by March 2, seeing that I had only been given access to those forms on Feb. 25, for the tax forms, we estimated a date for when we think they'll be completed, signed and sent (like the end of March) and I sent the form for the parent's thing to my dad to print out then send it to me.. It is a bit inconvenient that both your signatures have to be on that one form..

OK, new questions to be answered by any current students

1. Since I'm coming from the East coast (the best coast of course), I need to find a place to live. So if anyone lives on campus, how are the dorms? And why did you choose on campus vs living off campus? (And vice versa for someone who lives off campus).

I really would want to live off campus, but being that I'm my parents only daughter, they have said absolutely not, at least for the first year. I'm still trying to persuade them otherwise, but it seems as if they have made up their mind.

2. How necessary is it to have a car in the first 2 years? I wanna have my car over there, but with the price of gas nowadays, I'm not sure if it would be smart. If I don't need my car, I'm sure I can survive a year without it.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with these questions, so any feedback would be appreciated!

1. I had to find a place while living my summer in Ohio, and it is very annoying not being able to actually walk around and look at places. Fortunately I had family in the area who managed to poke around a bit for me. The Pros of the dorm include the convenient location, price, and that they are prefurnished (albeit the furniture looks like it is from the 1960's). I chose not to live in the dorms because after 4 years in an undergrad dorm, I wanted some more freedom. When you live in a dorm, you have to abide by their rules, and while a lot of them might be nice to keep your environment livable, they could feed stifling. You are an adult in grad school now, why not live in your own place? I managed to get an apartment only a 5 min walk off campus, it's only $795/month for two people (which is pretty incredible for SoCal, trust me) and we have the freedom to do what we want with it. Haha, my only regret is that I can't get a dog 😛 Money wise, it is more than affordable with the standard government loan plan, and idk, besides the minor ant problem we fixed in the summer, I have be SO happy living off campus here.

2. Trust me, you WANT a car. My roommate doesn't have one and he regrets it everyday. I had to take him grocery shopping all the time and it got really old really fast lol. Although now he has a girlfriend with a car so they usually go together haha. But think about it: Anytime you need supplies, food, you want to go out to eat, you want to go to a starbucks to study, you want to hang out with friends somewhere, etc, you will need a car. You could do without one if you absolutely wanted to, but life will be so much more difficult to organize without that freedom. Gas is terribly pricey down here, but again, with the budget they give you for financial aid, you don't have to worry about not having enough. I have been very good with my money and so I have a LOT extra left over and I'm going to borrow way less next year so my repayments aren't as miserable haha. Point being, if you can road trip a car out here, do it! A bunch of friends and I drove out to a Switchfoot concert about an hour away last night, and it was soooooooo good. My car was sure handy then! haha

I'm not a current student but my mom grew up right near there. Anyway my parents are super protective too so I understand (Like they won't let me drive the 9ish hours to and from undergrad by myself). I was just wondering if you had presented living off campus in a gated community to your folks? There are some nearby. My mom said she would never have me live in those dorms especially at our age. I have a dog so my options are more limited in terms of housing but my parents might have gone for that. As it is they will have to just take what I can get 🙂 It might be a little more expensive but the extra security might put their minds at ease.

^ This. Let me do some advertising for you:

http://www.forrent.com/apartment-community-profile/1003805.php

I have been in/around/all over these homes to visit friends and they are super nice. Washer/Dryer, dishwasher, spacey, pets allowed, clean, quiet, well taken care of, recreational facilities, etc. Well, you can read the add haha. And compared to some of the other apartments/town houses, they are pretty decently priced, especially if you split it with a room mate or two. I would probably be living there if not for where I live now.

And I'm sorry if this is repetitive info or if you have heard about it already, but check out the LLU trading post:

http://www.llu.edu/news/trading-post/index.page.

It's a huge classified adds paper full of apartments, furniture, etc. It's how I found out about my apartment, and if you watch it there can be some great deals!

Thanks for the links! I looked at some of the listings and they looked great. Now time to change my parents' minds...

Thanks, that's pretty much what I'm doing as well. This whole parent thing just doesn't make any sense to me - I'm 33, married with 2 kids, I don't see how my parents info is even relevant, especially since that's what's going to make me miss the Mar. 2nd deadline. I'm going to call the financial aid office tomorrow and try to get some more specific info.

Please post what you learn on here, because im really struggling to get my dad to finish his taxes for me. FAFSA is a dirty word in my parents house. I am also married and unsure why they care.

So, I'm trying to figure out what I'm suppose to do to start getting my financial aid going. I went to LLUSOM's financial aid page.

http://www.llu.edu/central/ssweb/finaid/apply.page?

I clicked on "Online LLU application requirements" and there aren't any forms or really any information about financial aid after I login into my account. Can you only get the additional financial aid forms after you have submitted your Fafsa?

Does anyone know how much longer they are going to be sending out interview invites for, or if they are done? Everytime I call admissions they are out of the office and I have been complete since the first of August... Getting reeally tired of waiting for all the slow schools to send their stuff out.

If you have any luck let me know and I can pm you some more links if you want. My best friend from undergrad had a realtor show her around when she interviewed for pharm school and she sent me a summary of what her and her roomate are looking at. I haven't seen them myself but some of them seem nice.

Can anyone speak to what average rent is for one person sharing a house in walking distance to LLU? What about a studio or 1 bedroom apartment in walking distance? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I learned today from the financial aid folks:
1) Regardless of what the FAFSA says Loma Linda wants Parent info for their institutional scholarships and loans, also Cal Grants and Pell Grants (which apparently as graduate students we're not eligible for). At least in my case (older, married, etc...), if I don't care about being considered for those things I don't have to submit parent info - federal funds don't require it.

2) The Mar. 2nd "deadline" is for the aforementioned things - Institutional funds (it was never really clear to me whether this includes scholarships based on academic performance or just those based on financial need), Cal and Pell grants - not meeting this deadline doesn't affect federal funds and may or may not affect institutional funds - there is a limited supply of money - first come first serve so of course earlier is better.

3) Signatures required on the "Information Verification Statement w/ Parents" can be copies. So in my case, for example, my parents can sign the form, fax it to me, I sign it, then fax it to Loma Linda. Same goes for tax returns.

4) I was told that our files are considered incomplete until all supporting documentation, including tax returns, are received, so if you put a later date for tax returns on the verification statement they won't complete review of your financial information until after the tax returns are received, even if all other forms are submitted prior to Mar. 2nd.

I'm definitely not getting tax returns to them by the 2nd so I guess what money is left is left and what's not is not. Hope this info helps others in the same boat.

Try this page: http://www.llu.edu/central/ssweb/index.page Click on the "Student Services Login." I used my AMCAS ID and password for the secondary the first time I logged in. On one of the forms I got after logging in it had my student number. I couldn't log in using my AMCAS ID the next day but it did work with my social and with the student id I got off the aformentioned form.

Check out the links I posted above, especially the Trading Post. My house is about 5 mins walking distance and I pay a little less than $400/month (total rent for my 2 bed/1 bath is $795/month).

I just called admissions this morning and they told me their last interview date was at the end of March . She said they usually gave students ample amount of time to reply to interview invites (one month), but there's a chance that those invited might cancel and they'll contact someone else on short notice.

Surprisingly it wasn't hard to convince them. Now we're just trying to figure out dates to fly out there to start looking around. But some links would be great! thanks in advance 🙂

The only thing now is finding a roommate

I called on Monday to set up an interview and instead of giving me a date on the spot they said they would call me back once they had scheduled me. Did this happen to anyone else? If so, how long did it take for them to call back? I want to start planning my trip out there 🙂

I might be interested.... but then again I should probably wait to hear back for an acceptance first.

On an unrelated matter... I realized that I put "Non-denominational" for my religious preference.... assuming that it meant "non-denominational Christian"
But I just now realized there is an option for just simply "Christian." What does "non-denominational" even mean? some hippie religion or something?

....its changed now.... I wonder if this screwed me over during the last adcom meetings.

This happened to me. It took about a week to hear back from them - very frustrating for planning a trip/booking flights. Hopefully it doesn't take that long for you. Good luck!

This whole financial aid process is rather enigmatic to me. I recently submitted my FAFSA. So, now do I just wait for LLU to send something to me after they receive the FAFSA, or is there something I should be filling out and faxing/mailing?

When you get a confirmation email that your FAFSA has been submitted, it will take a bit to process, then LLU will email you with another set of requirements to complete through their portal website, mostly more forms to sign and term agreements, etc.

anyone know how many people are rejected post interview vs waitlisted post interview?
Seems like they interview about twice the number of seats available. Doesn't this leave little room for rejection?

I got a financial aid info letter in the mail today. It cleared a lot of info up. I was getting pretty annoyed at the school before I got it. I am sure they will be mailing you one too and it was a checklist of the stuff we need to do.

anyone have any sort of estimate if they have given out most of their non-SDA acceptances yet?

Last Adcom meeting I was listed as "non-denominational" instead of "chrisitian" by accident and I feel that may have let my LLUSM boat sail away.

I'm hoping this next weeks meeting isn't just for the waitlist and that I still have a shot now that I've corrected my application.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but isn't non-denominational considered Christian? As in non-denominational Christian like that megachurch where Joel Osteen preaches? Regardless I don't think it will have affected your chances! One of my classmates who says she is not SDA but an orthodox Christian got accepted by the end of June. Waiting sucks.

Good luck this Friday you guys.

I thought i meant non-denominational Christian too... but they also have an option for just "christian" with no denominational modifier. Why would they have both if they didn't mean separate things?

I figured they might have some hippie definition for non-denominational so I'm playing it safe.

Quick question, does anyone know when the white coat ceremony happens?

Do they meet (and make calls) on the third Friday of the month? I remember this was the case last year and it seems to be happening this year. If so, best of luck to all on Friday.

I know they meet and start making calls on friday. I'm pretty sure they finish up with the calls on monday and tuesday.

I would prefer if they just sent out mail.... having a phone in your pocket that could ring at any moment with an acceptance is too much. With mail... all you have to do is check the mail once a day and its out of your mind for another 24 hours.

Hale, Im hoping that we both find good news this weekend/next week.

As far as I know this is the last acceptance meeting, and after its over we will either be waitlisted, rejected, or accepted.

so now we just wait... and pray...

Meh I thought they equally sucked. I have been waiting for a letter from a different school since February. Everyone else from my interview group that is an SDNer has heard. At least the phone system is semi-reliable and you don't have to constantly worry your decision is floating around somewhere out there.

Also good luck. I really hope you get your phone call soon.

tomorrow is a big day ( i think)

heres hoping to NOT be on the waitlist.

<3 this school.

I interviewed here on Tuesday. I doubt that I would be hearing anything by tomorrow, but here is to hoping!

I hope you get an acceptance call tomorrow. Good Luck! 🙂

So is it true that they are giving away their last available spots this friday and the rest are rejected/waitlisted?

here we go.

the question is, will i be eating In N Out burger for the next four years? or not?

Non-denominational is Christian. Don't worry about why there are both choices. I listed myself as non-denom and I was accepted. This won't have the impact that you are afraid it will.
