Has anyone gotten any FinAid stuff?

I talked with a person at the financial aid office and they said that, right now, it is a very busy time for them b/c they're working with the 4th years and their graduating financial counseling interviews or something like that. For incoming students, they said to expect something approximately the first week of May, which kind of sucks that we'll have less than 2 weeks to decide before we technically lose our deposits if we withdraw later than the 15th... Hope this helps

Ha, spoke too soon, myself. Got the username/password email this morning. Woot.

Interviewed 2/14
Alternate List 4/19

Probably will not attend and will withdraw at some point.

can't remember if this has already been asked, but does anyone know if the alternate list is ranked and when we start seeing some movement?

If I remember correctly, the list is internally ranked and won't be released to you 🙁

I just can't get my initial password to work on password.slu.edu...

anyone else having problems?

I had a few issues..make sure to put Id before (I is capitalized) before the last 6 of your banner id. I had issues logging into my email, but I called the IT number and they reset it which worked. Hope that helps!

The alternate list is ranked. It is internal and won't be released to applicants.

Movement last year really picked up speed in May going though June. Good luck!

Well guys, they're preparing to look at the alternate list. Got this e-mail this morning. Compared to last year, this e-mail is a week early, and 2 weeks-ish early compared to two years ago. Here's the e-mail if anyone's curious:

"Dear Applicant,

As you know, your file is complete and the Committee on Admissions has assigned you a position on the alternate list.

Please update your contact information on the attached form and on your AMCAS application. Be sure to include your AMCAS ID number on any correspondence. Submit any new facts such as grades, test scores, or other changes to the committee so that information may be included in your file. If you wish to withdraw your application, please e-mail the office at [email protected].

Please remember that our committee evaluated you based on your interview, academic record, MCAT performance, letters of evaluation, your personal comments, work and research experience, relevant extracurricular activities, and any other accomplishments of a non-scholastic variety. The committee wishes to emphasize that you were chosen as an alternate over numerous able competitors.

As is the case with most medical schools, ours is a rolling admissions process. This means we send offers of acceptance as positions in the class become available. This process continues from October until the early August student orientation. The Committee does not release information as to your rank on the alternate list.

We hope you continue to be interested in attending our School and encourage you to remain flexible as the prolonged admissions process continues throughout the coming weeks.

Committee on Admissions
Saint Louis University School of Medicine"

besides me and quaero, who else is waiting on some waitlist movement??

I've posted this before, but since the apartment is still available, I will post it again: I'm a 4th year at SLU getting ready to leave for residency and I'm looking for someone to sublet/take over my lease. I live in a newly rehabbed brick 4 family 1 bedroom apartment 2.5 blocks from SLUSOM. Its a 5 minute walk from front door to lecture hall, less than 10 to the hospital. The apartment will be available June 1st or the end of May. You can respond here or send me a private message for more info.I would be happy to answer any other questions anyone has as well.

hopefully we get some wait list movement like they did last year...if i remember correctly from browsing last year's posts, i think there were about 10 people on sdn alone who got off the waitlist

that's good news 🙂 gotta stay optimistic!

Just sent in an update to the office, and received a confirmation less than 20 minutes later. Love that SLU actually replies and lets you know that your e-mail didn't get lost in cyberspace 👍

I remember I got an automatic reply message right after I sent in one of the updates 😀

Yeah that is nice of them to confirm so quickly that they received update letters

If anyone is planning to come to Saint Louis early and looking to sublet a place for the month of June or both June and July, PM me and I can give you details. The place is a very nice house, 2 stories and a basement.

Also, I have a printer/copier/scanner for sale. It is the HP Deskjet F4280. Ink for it is close to full still. I am looking to sell it for $40/OBO. PM me for that as well.

Good luck with the alternate list moving. And if anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I have had a few people PM me w/ questions so don't be shy!

Enjoy your summer!!

For those on the waitlist, what are your stats?
Mine are:
MCAT: 31O
GPA: 3.87
2+ years research, typical volunteer experience.

MCAT: 34Q, cGPA: 3.4ish, sGPA: 3.7ish. Ex-firefighter / EMT, some shadowing and volunteer work, non-traditional, lots of leadership / management experience.

Any of you waitlisters going to retake the MCAT/reapply this cycle?

If so, when are you taking the MCAT? I'm taking it in mid July because last year all SDN waitlist movement had ended by the end of June, so if it is like that this year, it will allow me to know if I'm off the waitlist in time to cancel and get $120 back and 5 hours of testing back.

Are you sending your AMCAS out asap (early June)? I think that's what I'll be doing, but I'm also tempted to wait a month. The cost of the MCAT is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of sending out a potentially unneeded AMCAS primary application to a ton of schools.. but then again, the last thing I want to do is have a timing disadvantage once again.. Tough choices.

I'm reapplying if I don't get into SLU, but will be submitting AMCAS in early June regardless. Yeah I'll be out several hundred bucks if I get in, but the benefits of not making an already steep hill even more daunting by applying late by doing a "wait and see" make that cost do-able for me.

I'll be doing the same thing. Losing a little money is a small price to pay to be on the safe side. Don't think I'm gonna retake the MCAT though...not enough time to study since I don't want to end up applying late because of it...

You can still submit your applications with your old MCAT score, and then update schools with your new score.

Decided I'm Mizzou-bound. Good luck.

If my memory serves me correctly.. From last year's thread, I'm pretty sure no one on SDN got off the waitlist until the end of May/beginning of June 🙁 Looks like it may take them a couple weeks to start making decisions. Correct me if I'm wrong.. please lol

Yep seems that way from what I saw on last year's thread too. Maybe we'll get lucky this year and they'll get started early :xf:

No you are right..I am just happy to set up some landmark in my head...hopefully they will notify earlier on this year. I am pretty sure they stopped interviewing earlier this year and they also sent out the alternate list confirmation email earlier.

Financial aid packages are up! I randomly checked the mySLU site and it was posted there under financial awards

I have new letters of recommendation since I applied. Do you think I could have the letter writers e-mail it to [email protected], or will they not accept letters through anything besides AMCAS letter service?

I didn't know you can get half the money back from MCAT registration. I might do the same exact thing as what you have planned. You are right about the cost of MCAT vs secondaries 👍

Financial Aid is up for me too! i got an not too shabby chunk of change with the SLU endowed scholarship, pretty stoked!

Just withdrew here. Good luck to you guys on the waitlist!

I'm on the waitlist and will withdraw as soon as another school gets all my financial aid paperwork.

this might be an unanswerable question, but does anyone have an idea of how many people on the waitlist are usually pulled off each year? or perhaps an accepted:matriculated ratio (e.g. 3:1 is 3 people accepted for every one spot in the class)? i know there is usually quite a bit of movement, but just curious about how realistic my chances might be =/

I believe SLU will accept the letters through their email address. Whatever you email them gets placed into your application file. Just give it a shot.

I am also interested in hearing what people (possibly current students) think about this.

"Admissions: To date, the School of Medicine admissions office has received 6,383 applications for the class of 2015. Of these applicants, 926 applicants have been interviewed; 469 have been accepted; 254 are holding positions. Of the 254 holding positions, 48.8 percent are women and 10.4 percent are underrepresented minorities."

Where did you find this information? So it looks like there's 457 people on the waitlist, and that 74 people need to withdraw before anyone's pulled off the waitlist since the incoming class is 180 people. Looking at this, I'd say it's possible that the waitlist moves very little.

Not quite. The maximum number of waitlisted people is indeed 457, however, I'm sure that many people got rejections even after being interviewed. waitlist is somewhere between 0 and 457 obv.,

On May 15th, when those 74+ people decide to go somewhere else, they will start pulling ppl off the waitlist
