My Interview>Interview Links>Student Lodging Program

BTW, anyone have an interview on the 13th who might be interested in splitting a cab back to the airport? the online estimate says it'll be like 40 bucks.

anyone have any tips/suggestions for the interview? Do they reject many applicants who interview this early?

Congrats to those with interviews! 🙂 I scheduled mine for October 17th, hopefully I'll see some of you.

Sorry for my long disappearance. Neuro has been kicking rear end.

Interviews are definitely going out in droves now. I am hosting as well, so I may see some of you.

I highly recommend staying with a student host. We are all very friendly and you could learn a lot from talking with your student host. Not just about SLU or how to interview, but about Saint Louis as a whole and the life here.

I also recommend NOT taking the Metro since the stop nearest to SLU no longer exists. Taxi is about $40. If someone is thinking about metroing to some place closer and then taking a taxi, I recommend you do not do it if you are getting in any time after sun down.

As for interviews, it is generally better to be interviewed early rather than later. Interviews here are pretty chill. They mostly just talk to you and get to know you. Most likely you will not get those, "if you can only save one person out of two people who would you save", questions. I do not know what last year's acceptance to interview ratio is. The class of 2015 size is 176.

Good luck to everyone!

Still no word from my potential host...

i just submitted my secondary today. I thought I did quite well on it until i realized i skipped over the MD/Phd section... so in my preview it saids this:

Would you like to apply for the MD/PhD program?
No response to this question yet.

i hate myself so much....

You will get an email with your host's name and contact info. But be patient: the program is student-run and as you can imagine, students can get busy with other priorities.

How long did it take for most people to be assigned an interviewer? Also, do afternoon interviews really end at 5?

II today! First one, so excited, so nervous. Only got one II last year from my state school. 😱

Got Invite this morning - my first! Very much hoping for this one. (OOS, submitted 8/15)
Scheduled for 10/4. Looking forward to meeting some of you there

When confirming a date, can I buy plane tickets without fear of the date being changed on me?

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not too well versed with flying. Is there any time-frame you can't change a southwest flight for free (i.e. within X weeks of your trip)?
You should search that from their website. But even so, that's still better than any other airlines that make you pays hundreds of dollars just for minor tweaks

You can change southwest within 4 hours of take off of your flight

southwest is amazing... you can change anytime
i missed my flight and they let me use the cost of my airfare towards a later flight that day...

but if you change you have to pay the difference for the fair if its more expensive but thats it

About the student hosting, if this helps, I paid the fee, got a confirmation on sept 1 and was forwarded my host's phone number and email on sept 4. Not sure what the general turnover rates are..but I think it could be around a week. Did you get that first payment confirmation?

Oh and for interviews, mine is scheduled for 4-4.45pm. lol Its the last time slot. Hopefully I'll be able to catch my 7.15pm flight!

So I applied to SLU med and have not heard back yet. Although, I did receive a brochure in the mail from them today. Complete in late June, letters sent early August

Anyone else get this? Are they being sent to all applicants, all MCAT takers, OR is this a good sign?

I got a brochure last week and completed my secondary 6/22, and I haven't heard anything else from them

crossing my fingers! Haven't heard anything from SLU since I submitted my app in mid July!

FYI:

Class of 2015: The Class of 2015 began Orientation Week in the new Education Union on August 1. The 176 students in the class represent 27 states and five countries. These students obtained their undergraduate education from 68 colleges and universities, with 50 graduating from Saint Louis University; seven from Washington University; four from Johns Hopkins University and 25 from the University of California system. We are pleased to note that 48 percent of the class are women, reflecting the gender pattern of the national applicant pool.

I'm curious about the brochures, they sent them last year as well. I wonder if it's just to give us more info/let us know they haven't forgotten about us?

Interview tomorrow! currently sitting on my host student's futon (who has been really great!)

Will post feedback!

I hope I get some St. Louis love!!!!!! 🙂 I had no idea they accepted so many of their undergraduates though. This is somewhat unnerving.

Had my interview today, I think it went well. The questions were great, and my interviewer created a perfectly, comfortable environment. Also the new student facilities are awesome. In the end, SLU is a lot more enticing than I had anticipated...

I'm still trying to figure out my interview date. Does anyone know if it is possible to reschedule the interview? I would like to pick one just so I can hold my spot. The interview website says "You may cancel your interview online if it is more than a week in advance." Does this mean you can reschedule it, or is this just purely a cancellation?

I got a brochure as well. Looking at last year's thread, they concluded that everybody gets them. I guess we'll find out if they mean anything lol

Interview yesterday. I thought it went ok, but it was really hard to read my interviewer...he asked me medical questions about shadowing I did a year and a half ago, along with a "have you seen anything about that procedure in the news lately" question which of course I hadn't. I can only hope he was trying to put me on the spot to see how I handled the pressure...

the campus was really beautiful, though construction between the medical campus and the undergrad campus makes it difficult right now to get to the undergrad for, say, the HUGE fitness center.

I stayed with a first year host who was great. They went SLU undergrad and were in one of those programs where you basically sign onto med school your freshman year and as long as you get the grades and don't do something completely stupid, you get in. Pretty sweet, and that partially explains the high SLU undergrad rate at the med school. I learned a lot of cool stuff about the university from her (surprisingly, we never got one of those "this is why all of us here at SLU think the school is awesome" talks during the interview day. The most talk about the school itself happened on the tour)

They said we would not hear until at least October 15, so I guess I have that long to stew about my less than stellar interview. At least I have a date!

Interview yesterday.

Congrats on finishing the interview! I'm glad you managed to get in touch with your student host. 🙂

Hope you'll hear good news from SLU soon!!

Is anyone sending thank you notes/emails to the interviewer? How long should we wait before sending one?

Send a thank you. They get put in your file, and Dr. Willmore reads everything.

I believe that the brochures are sent to everyone.

As someone noted above, they don't give a "this is why SLU is great talk" on the interview day. Dr. Willmore will say straight out, "I think every thing here is great... but I'm biased." They really leave it to the students to tell you about the school. So, TALK to your student hosts, the tour guides (usually M4s), and the students at the lunch (usually M2s). We all really enjoy talking to the interviewees; so, don't be afraid to ask us questions!

The admissions committee has just been chosen and is going to start meeting Oct. 5th.

Would anyone that had an interview invite post their stat and IS/OS situation? I'm not getting any love from SLU. I finished the secondary June 16th.
