congratulations to all of those that got accepted! i interviewed on nov 1st and i'm anxiously waiting for a response! do any of you remember if there was a particular day that you got the email? every time my phone buzzes with a new email, i freak out lol. not only that, i went to SLU for undergrad so i keep getting emails from the bookstore/career services/etc and they make it worse! lol

I got mine on a Friday. Another poster said Thursdays and Fridays are typical I think.

Sending the deposit and signed code of conduct IS holding your acceptance. You can still withdraw at any point. You don't need to reject SLU's offer right now, the deposit is refundable before May 15th (according to MSAR). Save yourself a phone call. Hope this helps. 🙂

I believe you. It would be absurd to force people into a decision before hearing back from other schools. The wording just seems odd.

Does anyone know if the student run clinic at SLU has a day where they target the Asian population of saint louis? I volunteered at an asian student run clinic during my undergraduate, and it'd be great doing it again from the other side.

I wouldn't have expected it given the small asian population in saint louis, but my student host mentioned hearing about there being something along the lines of an asian-focused student-run clinc, although he wasn't sure of the details himself. Searching for it myself, it seems like he may have been referring to the hispanic-targeted clinic, as that's the only ethnically-focused clinic at SLU I could find...

Looking on SLU's website, it doesn't seem like there is just one day dedicated to the Asian population. Instead, the Health Resource Center, which rotates between the pediatric, women's, and regular clinic, is open to all racial/ethnic groups. Here is the website for the Health Resource Center: http://medschool.slu.edu/hrc/

interviewed 10/25, no word at all since then. how concerned should i be?

out of state, 34 MCAT, 3.9 GPA

i really didn't think i blew the interview or anything...i was accepted to "better ranked" schools almost immediately after the interviews, so this concerns me. i've just always, always had my heart set on this school

should i contact them? just twiddle my thumbs? hate this waiting game...6 weeks as of tomorrow

I wouldn't worry. I interviewed 10/31 and heard back on Friday. I dont think the time between interview and decision is a sign of your chances. Far more likely that the interviewer was just a bit slow to return the paperwork, as a couple people here have mentioned. I'm sure you'll hear soon.

Couldn't look around the area near the campus when I was in St Louis. How would you rate the area? Would you consider it "rural?" What are some +/- of living in St. Louis or going to SLU? Is it boring to live in Saint Louis? The usual questions. Input from anyone from the area or those who's had interviews would be greatly appreciated.
😉

I would contact them and ask about your status. IT probably is just that your interviewer took their time turning in forms, but it would be nice to know for sure. 🙂

You don't need to contact them. How long it takes to get a decision is not at ALL related to how well the interview went/how great of an applicant some one is. ALL it depends on is how long it takes the interviewer to submit their interviewing form and find time to present to the committee. Awful applicant or amazing applicant: they will hear within a day or two of their application being presented/committee voting.

It is not at all rural (though if you're interested in rural medicine, you can request a rural family medicine rotation during third year). It's in the middle of town. I already said what I think are the +/-s of SLU on the thread a page or two ago. I'm from California, and I don't find Saint Louis boring at all. I actually love the city. There's a ton of things to do (and many of them are free): night life, great restaurants, plays, concerts, cultural and music festivals, Forest Park (larger than Central Park with various fields and courts, running/biking trails, outdoor ice rink in winter, free history museum, free art museum, free science museum, and free zoo that's the second best in the nation), Cardinals/Rams/Blues games, City Museum (not a museum... it's an 11 story adult jungle gym that's awesome, and we had our med school prom there last year), and a bunch more. There's also cool stuff within easy driving distance: largest laser tag arena (30 min. away), demolition ball (game you play with track ball scoops in bumper cars; 30 min. away), skyzone (room full of trampolines you can play dodgeball on; 30 min. away), camping (went for a weekend with some med students), etc.

Complete since Oct. 3 here, and still haven't heard back about an II. Would they take kindly if I email them and ask about the status of my app?

I emailed yesterday. They answered this morning, telling me to be patient and send in a letter of interest/update letter. It was a pretty formulaic response. I've been complete since 10/12.

Wikipedia shows the St. Louis greater metro area as ~2.8 million people and the 16th largest urban area in the country.

How could this be construed as "rural"?

SLU and Wash U serve as the primary level one trauma center for all the rural areas west of st. louis until you get about 1/2 way to columbia, mo, and the southern part of Il, plus i dont think that 2.8 figure is technically accurate, i know st. louis city has less that 450,000 people

Yeah, don't confuse St. Louis city with greater St. Louis.

When do admissions take a break for the holidays? Interviewed 11/29, want to hear back soon

The admissions committee meets until at least the 21st before breaking for the holidays.

And though Saint Louis metro area is extremely large, the city itself isn't all that big. I'm from Fresno, California which is the #34 largest city by population; Saint Louis city is #58 by population. That said, it's common for admissions to refer to people from Fresno as "rural applicants." The city may not be all that large, but it definitely is an urban area (connected with lots of suburban areas like Crestwood, Kirkwood, etc.) with a big city feel.

Would any of you take Rosalind Franklin over SLU? (I personally wouldn't...but seeking what others think as well)
🙂

Is there some secret way to trick SLU into getting me off the wait list and onto the accepted list?

Like, using crystals, or science?

To those worried about crime and such, remember that St.Louis census statistics do not include the surrounding metro area (which most cities include) so it is pretty much useless/misleading. I go to SLU undergrad and while there is crime, I wouldn't say its an abnormal amount or anything to worry about.

Here is a wonderful article I found on Forbes that describes my feelings exactly. As I have said before, St. Louis really is a wonderful city. As a native Chicagoan I really had my doubts about our little neighbor to the southwest. Despite SLU's continued reluctance to interview me, I frequently defend their city. Here is the link to the article entitled "St. Louis Doesn't Suck." I highly recommend this article to anyone who does not believe my previous claims. As the above poster suggested, the crime rate is grossly exaggerated (and 65% of the crime takes place across the river in Illinois, hence the most dangerous city ranking that pops up on a regular basis).

Congrats to all those accepted! PM me if you want suggestions for fun things to do in St. Louis.

Waiting is a good way to get off the waitlist. While SLU does seem to be a fine school, there's no denying that it's a backup school for many simply b/c they're so OOS friendly and the price of tuition is quite high compared to state schools (which is obviously not anyone's fault...they just don't have public tax dollars subsidizing the bill). There should be plenty of waitlist movement in the spring.

Hey guys! I was accepted to SLU a few weeks ago and it is definitely my first choice (and my only choice!)

I have a question that I hope you guys can answer for me since I rather not ask them. I have had a pretty tough semester, and with finals approaching I've really buckled down. Problem is I have some poor grades and at best I may end up with 3 Bs and a C. Do you think this is an issue, especially considering one of those Bs might become a B- or C+ pretty easily.

Thanks. Hope to see everyone in August!

complete mid-november, interview invite about 2 weeks later, interviewing in the next week or two (would rather keep exact date ambiguous). I'm hoping to really like this school because their mission is very much what I am looking for in a medical school. Anybody have any insights on how the interviews are run? Any particular difficult questions encountered? Seems like a typical conversational interview, much like many other schools I've seen do, but any comment would be appreciated! Best of luck to everyone

One of the most casual interviews I've had! 🙂 My interviewer prettying just asked me about my extracurriculars, my family, my interest in SLU. He was really friendly! The tour guides were fun and engaging, all the admissions staff were friendly. I had a great, casual interview! Best of luck to you.

One of the best interviews I've been on!! The actual interview itself was EXTREMELY casual. My interviewer really only asked me 2 questions (one of which was the standard, "Why do you want to be a doctor?"), the rest of the time we just talked about our families, track runners, and things to do in STL. He called me in the morning the day I was accepted (about 2 hours before) just to see how I was doing and to make sure I had all my questions answered. I'm confident you will fall in love with SLU just as I did. GOOD LUCK!!!! :luck:

Did you have Michael Railey? lol

Interview tomorrow! It's my first one since I had to postpone everything a month. Interviewing at St. Mary's :scared:

No news is just that... no news. They don't do silent rejections. As soon as they review you they tell you the decision, whatever it is.

I haven't heard anything from them for over 3 months...I would imagine that I am on some kind of pre interview hold.

i interviewed october 25th, thinking i must have a good shot for getting a relatively early interview :/ and i don't THINK i blew it. i just hate this helpless feeling, the waiting game.

The time between when you interview and when you hear back has NOTHING to do with whether or not you will get accepted.

I don't know about SLU specifically, but I think the general consensus is that most schools will not make a huge deal out of it. They may tell you to keep your grades up, but they will not withdraw your acceptance unless it is something terrible. I imagine you would have to fail a class required for graduation in order for that to happen. I think you are in the clear, but if you are really concerned, let them know before they come to you. Explain why it was a rough semester, and I do not think you will have any serious issues, but they would probably appreciate knowing sooner rather than finding out later.
Congrats on the acceptance! Saint Louis is a fun city 🙂

SLU Rocks! Congrats. Doubtful they will withdraw your acceptance unless you total bomb or fail.

Hey guys,

I've been complete since 7/27 with no word from SLU. I've called a few times asking about my status and every time I've called, someone mentions that I'm complete. I sent in an update/letter of intent on 11/27 and I have heard nothing since.

Is this a silent rejection sort of thing?

Nope. Just not an invite. Nothing you can do but wait. You can always check your app for red flags, etc. -- esp. if you have yet to hear from ANY school. SLU was pretty fast in getting back to me (from my submission of my secondary, it took <2 weeks to get an interview invite and I was accepted within 3 weeks of my interview), so I know they aren't exactly slow. That said, they do get around 6000 applications, so if your numbers were on the lower side of accepted students (e.g., <32 MCAT and/or <3.7 GPA), you may end up not hearing back until the new year. I have no idea where they are in terms of acceptances at this point, unfortunately, but good luck!

Complete July 5 and received an interview invite last week, so don't worry yet if you've been waiting since July. Set for mid Jan with Craig Lawson. Anyone know anything about him?

Got the call today. GL everyone! (Interviewed 11/15)

Accepted today! Whoohoo! First acceptance, so I am super happy. :soexcited::soexcited:Thanks for loving me back St. Louis.
Interviewed 10/25
33Q, 3.82 overall, 3.71 science, OOS

Anyone know if there will be another committee meeting next week?
