I have an interview coming up. Can we leave our luggage at the admissions office?

BUMP!! Pls have a committee meeting admissions pls pls pls pls 😀

Hey guys,

I've been complete since 7/27 with no word from SLU. I've called a few times asking about my status and every time I've called, someone mentions that I'm complete. I sent in an update/letter of intent on 11/27 and I have heard nothing since.

Is this a silent rejection sort of thing?
I've heard after about 2 months. I'm OOS and my gpa is near ~3 lol. so I would take it as it is and perhaps move on.

Have an interview coming up later this month with Craig Lawson. Anyone have him before, or know how he interviews?

ps. has anyone written SLU a letter of intent post-interview (before decision)?

I think that I had him. He was nice but tried to ask a few ethical questions and was VERY thorough with my application.

Good luck everyone!

Dr. Lawson is awesome! Great guy and very conversational. Just read up on you AMCAS and be able to carry on a conversation. He told me flat out they were trying to get away from ethical questions this cycle and generally asks questions like why slu, why medicine, talk about stuff you've done that he knows about (habitat for humanity-for example), etc. You've got a good one.

See everyone interviewing tomorrow, I got my II today and scheduled it for tomorrow because I live a block away and was available 🙂.

Hi Guys,

I interviewed late October and was accepted for MD at SLU early December (GPA>=3.95, MCAT>=38, Submitted secondary mid September; Interview Invite the week later).

I am currently planning on attempting to do a MD-MBA joint program. Does anyone have any experience with a joint program at SLU in terms of how to add the MBA once you are accepted for MD?

II! I was complete in June and sent an update letter last week. This is one of my top choices, so I'm very excited

Me, too! I hope you weren't the person who gobbled up that last slot on the 23rd right before I tried to book it. 😛

Hi, I also got my II today and I am super excited especially since it comes after more than 3 months of silence. But even though I got the email with the invite I still can't see the tab when I go to my application to schedule my interview. Anybody else has this problem? Should I wait a day or two or contact their admissions office?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It's kinda hard to see.
Under the "My Application" tab is a list of options you have seen before. Right below "Log off" should be another tab that says "My Interview." It's blue with white letters.

I assume from what you tell me that you went to SLU? but anyways very awesome to hear, thx for the reply! I wanted the interview to be a deep convo and not like trick/test you q's. I understand SLU is private but do they favor instate ppl more than OOS? I'm OOS from east coast so I'm just wondering if I'm on the same leg as everyone else. ps. hope you aced your interview

I did some graduate work there and Dr. Lawson was a professor of ours and a good mentor to me. I did not got to SLU for undergrad though. You may get into a deep convo if there is something cool on your app that he's also interested in. He's a chill guy though, loves hockey, was a surgical pathologist, and loves the new iphone 🙂.

As far as IS vs OOS- I believe they end up interviewing like ~120 IS and and ~500 OOS or something like that, while accepting 82% IS and 55% OOS. At first glance that looks unbalanced but I think the vast amount of OOS interviews skews that number. Good luck!

Does anyone know if SLU is one of those schools that sending a LOI will help get you off the waitlist?

Thanks. Any current students have an opinion?

E-mail or paper?

I called yesterday about an update letter/letter of intent and they told me it was more convenient to upload online. There's an option to upload applicant document in your account, and I submitted it there last night.

I think emails are supposed to go out either tomorrow or Friday. Hoping for tomorrow

I got waitlisted here today. Anyone know how the waitlist process works?

If only they remake that game.......... WHY NOT? 😡

I agree, and I wouldn't want it remade for some hand held thing like the PSP (you know they redid Ocarina Of Time on the 3DS, right?). I don't know, maybe two new generations of systems is still too soon? Here's to holding out hope ha.

How difficult would you say it is to get into SLU compared to other MD schools? What are some comparable schools to SLU?

um st. louis? are you going to hand out acceptances tomorrow? HUH HUH? or am I going to have to wait more .....

seriously you take forever st. louis 👎thumbdown👎

Did you just upload online, or send a hardcopy? I just submitted one online and I'm wondering if I should send an email notifying them of the upload?

So I interviewed Dec 6th. Any guesses/ideas as to when I will hear back? :/ My interviewed said the committee would meet 3-4 weeks after my interview, but we are approaching week SEVEN!.... I saw on this forum that the committee met Jan 11, but I guess they aren't caught up.

Depends who you are. I found it pretty "easy" I guess...but being as they reject like 90% of their applicants (like every other med school in the country), I'm guessing "easy" might be the wrong word.... 🙄

SLU is comparable to schools such as Loyola and Creighton. It ranks the same as VCU but is probably slightly weaker overall, IMO. It's a nice school although not in the most desirable location. If it were my only acceptance, I'd go there, but of my current options, it probably wouldn't be my top choice unless they offered me an excellent financial aid package (however, I am always willing to talk, SLU...).

2-4 weeks. I got accepted 3 weeks after my interview, but that was back in October (i.e., they couldn't make offers before then). That said, you might remember a certain day when we all celebrated somebody's birth over 2000 years ago by giving each other presents and another day when we celebrated another birth over 200 years ago by giving ourselves promises we won't keep.

Just a heads up, I received a rejection email about last week pre-interview. Looks like rejections are starting to be released.

Sorry to hear it, thanks for the update though it is helpful. I'm thinking my rejection is coming unfortunately 🙁

3-8 weeks is pretty normal for hearing back. It really just depends on your specific interviewer (how quickly they submit their report, how many applicants are already on the docket for presentation, and whether they can make the committee meeting that week).

In response to an earlier question, re-applicants are not penalized usually. Actually, they are almost always looked on favorably (especially if they were near the top of the waitlist in previous cycles) since they assume they have a genuine interest in SLU. The only time being a reapplicant will hurt you is if there's debate about whether to admit you, and they see you had a TERRIBLE interview in a previous cycle.

I totally agree on re-applying. I'm a reapplicant and I was fortunate enough to be accepted this cycle.

Question for current students at SLU. Do you guys find that you get to hang out/meet students at WashU? I think its cool that there are two universities so close together in terms of meeting new people and stuff. Or, is it more just a close knit group of SLUdents.

I don't know anyone from WashU med school, although I think there have a been a couple of events for the two groups to mix. But honestly, there's enough going on that I don't know why someone would want to mix.

I agree with the above. It only takes a few weeks to hear back early on in the cycle, but towards the end, it can take 6-8 weeks or so. And again, it all depends on your interviewer.

This is late, but I also got an II on 1/10, scheduled for 2/7.

Big shocker this morning- received an interview! I'm pretty happy because this is one of maybe two or so schools out there that I am still interested in checking out. Was complete SO LONG AGO- June like some of the others on here. Hold out hope if you're still waiting for an II. 😀

just got an interview invitation this morning too!
