Big shocker this morning- received an interview! I'm pretty happy because this is one of maybe two or so schools out there that I am still interested in checking out. Was complete SO LONG AGO- June like some of the others on here. Hold out hope if you're still waiting for an II. 😀

I got one too. Did not see that coming! Still deciding if I should go or not...

Congratulations! That is a really long wait. Was it through email?

Just submitted an update letter on the status website...here's to hoping 👍

I just got hired as an MCAT instructor for the princeton review. Is this worth an update letter and what is the best way to go about sending these? I am waitlisted btw.

Doesn't really show how that makes you a stronger or better candidate for medical school. I wouldn't send it, imo.

Congrats! and good luck!

Thank you! I'll keep you in the loop 🙂.

Yea, I hear you. I attended all of my interviews in September/October, so I almost felt like interview season was over for me. However, as I mentioned, SLU is one of those few schools that I marked as "still would like to interview". Looks like I'm going to St. Louis!

, yea, super long! Better than nothing though (obviously). Yes, it was via email.

If its an easy trip I say go for it unless you know you absolutely would not want to go.
even if you dont like it it might help you see which school is right for you.
Thats just my opinion but if its a flight or expensive I totally understand the reluctance.

I also really recommend the hosting program by the way.

Eh...not huge, but it may not be a bad excuse to write them and help them to know that you're interested. Just try to throw some other stuff in there.

Have you done anything else since your secondary? I only just sent in an update because I've been working 20 hrs/week this school year, tutoring for 10 hrs/wk, organizing and running a fundraiser and am now on a grants committee.

Yeah...I do too much.

Just got an interview invite through e-mail. what a big shock, especially considering I applied quite late with mediocre stats!

Received one today, as well. Complete 10/12, II 1/25, interview scheduled for 2/7. They have spots every Monday and Tuesday for the whole month of February.

I just got one as well! I am very excited as I love this city. I live 5 minutes down the road, so this is also the most convenient interview I have been offered. If anyone is interested in fun things to do in St. Louis just let me know. I can also try to help out with rides and what not if it fits into my schedule. Anyone interested can just pm me, and I will check my schedule to see if I can help any sdners out.

Have been complete since June... haven't gotten an II or rejection! Ahhh, I just want to hear something. Silence is the worst!

the itinerary states interview day should end at 5pm. does it really?

You could potentially have a 4:15 interview, like I did, in which case you'll be done around 5. However, if you have a morning interview, you'll be getting out early afternoon, and most afternoon interviews end well before 5. You should get an email within a few weeks of scheduling your interview letting you know you've been assigned a specific time/interviewer.

My interview was at 8:45 in the morning, so I was done at 1 after the lunch with M2s. Also, I would highly recommend the student host program. You can find information on the interview tab. Mine was so nice, drove me around, and I left with a great impression of St. Louis and the school.

Student host program. Do it! haha

Someone in my group had a 3 PM interview. When I got back from my interview at 4, he was still waiting for his interviewer to finish up with the previous applicant. See if you can get a morning or early afternoon interview if at all possible

Can anyone tell me where I should send a pre-interview update? Sorry if this has already been asked and answered...

You can probably snail mail one to the office or add one online. There's a section for it.

I forgot about the online app section to add one and just emailed one. They accepted it just fine.

I was under the impression that we are assigned a time slot by the committee. Are you saying that we can request for a particular time?

You are, but I'm sure it's fine to request a morning interview if you have an early evening flight or whatever. Give the admissions office a call ASAP and ask nicely, definitely before they schedule you in a particular time slot. Worst case, they say no.

If you have a flight to catch, you could email/call admissions to ask if they could reschedule for a morning interview. They did it for me and were really nice about it too! 🙂

I tried to find it on the website, but I couldn't.

Does anyone know if SLU is open to deferrals or taking time off between M2and M4 to get another degree, do research or something of the like?

I'm having a sorta pre-med crisis for not taking time off lol

Time off is nice, but it won't kill you to not have it 😉. Try and have a nice and relaxed summer/final semester. Then kill it in the Fall.

ugh too late. lol. just received an e-mail and apparently Dr. Shoemaker is going to interview me at 2:00pm. I guess it's not too bad all things considered.

Thank you for your input though 🙂

edit: does anyone know what it's like to be interviewed by Dr. James Shoemaker? thanks in advance.

2 PM's not bad. You'll be done by 3. If you need to get out earlier, just call and ask. They're nice people at the admissions office. I didn't have Dr. Shoemaker, but if you look back through this thread, I believe a few other posters commented on what he was like.

Dr. Shoemaker was my interview and I really liked him. 🙂 He was very easygoing, mainly just asked questions based on what was in my AMCAS app. Definitely made me feel at ease! I was accepted three weeks after I interviewed, so he gets his reviews to the committee very promptly.

I also had Dr. Shoemaker as my interviewer and really enjoyed the interview. Before the interview, he took me to the top of the Doisy building for a visual tour of SLU and the surrounding area. I thought that was really nice. And he mainly asked questions about my AMCAS, and then a few basic interview questions. It took a lot longer for me to get the acceptance, 7 weeks, but I think winter break threw a kink into the flow of things. 🙂

Hey mrpixel, when did you interview? I also interviewed before the winter break, but having not heard anything for 7 weeks, I am now worried...🙁

I hit the 7 week mark this week as well. My interviewer said with the holidays everything would be delayed, so I would hear at the end of January. Of course, the "next" committee meeting would be in Feb., so it is a little weird.

If you read back a page in the thread or two other people clear up the issue nicely.

Didn't they have a meeting this past Wednesday? I'm surprised they haven't released decisions yet (I'm guessing no one has heard anything yet?)

Curious about this too. I interviewed on December 13th, and they told us that we should hear by the end of January. Hopefully they let us know soon, I keep checking my emails.

I had my interview 11/22, and didn't hear back until 1/12. According to the posts earlier in this thread, the first committee meeting after winter break was 1/11, so I guess I was in that first batch after winter break that they got to. They might just have a backload of applicants to get through? I think no news has no correlation to your acceptance/rejection, but I know, it doesn't mean it's any easier to just be waiting...haha.

Just had my interview, went out to St Louis downtown for a night...hit up a couple of breweries + the Lumiere casino LOL. I'm loving this city.

Has anyone written a letter of intent before, did it help? SLU is my top choice atm

how long does it usually take to hear back from interview? 4-8 weeks?

Is SLU's wait list hard-ranked, and one's position on it 'locked in' once added to said list?

yea, that's about how long it took me to hear back. It really all depends on when your interviewer presents your stuff to the adcom

When do they normally tell you about their decision after the interview? 😕 a month?

did anyone happen to interview with Vincent Gibbons? Could you please tell me how he was as an interviewer and whether he was approachable to talk to? I'm going to St. Louis next week!
Thanks!

Hi guys,

I just got my acceptance email today, I interviewed 12/19.

I will be withdrawing my application so good luck to everybody else!

Hey congratulations mrkyle31! Who did you interview with? I interviewed on 12/12 and still haven't heard.

Saaame. I was reaaally hoping for some good news after I saw his post. Kind of getting tired of the whole checking my email every ten minutes haha.

I got one too. Did not see that coming! Still deciding if I should go or not...

+1 and definitely attending!!

I was also really surprised!! I sent an in the area/interest letter last week...not sure if that had anything to do with it though!

Does anyone know if those who are interviewing later in the cycle (Feb/March) are more likely to be wait-listed at St. Louis than accepted just because it is later in the cycle? Or are acceptances more spread throughout the season? I only ask because I've heard that at certain schools later in the cycle, acceptances have already been given and students are interviewing more so for wait-list spots. Wondering if this is true too at SLU??
