What year is that from? Because if that is from last year, I was the only person from Missouri that was rejected after an interview...

Sorry bro. Not sure what to say...:whoa:

eek. well, its current US News data... soo.... not sure if that's a year behind or if that's last year?

EDIT: at the very bottom is says "* Medical School Admissions details based on 2011 data".. that would imply it's a year behind, I think??

My 2012 MSAR shows Fall 2011 matriculants.

It says 39 in-state matriculants, 131 non-resident matriculants, and 5 international. It doesn't match your US News data.

Can we pretend it was the year before last...or else you really are talking to the one reject. I don't know whether to feel special...or awful.

I updated my post after you replied.. US News says its "2011 data" but that is ambiguous.. because does that mean 2010-2011 or 2011-2012? I assume its 2010-2011, but if someone can confirm using MSAR (I don't have access any longer), then we would know for sure.

edit: Thanks 113, exactly what i wanted 🙂

Sorry bro. Not sure what to say...:whoa:

No worries...I got an interview this year too! My application is a LOT stronger too. When I first applied, I hadn't taken Physics 1/2, Organic 1/2, Biochem, Genetics, or Cell Bio, all of which I earned A's in. In addition, I had no LORs from ANY science teachers, which I have now. Hoping all of this will change that stat.

But, at least no one has to wonder about that one person! I am alive and doing well.

what % of the 1st yr class come from this program?

Sent from my SPH-L700 using Tapatalk 2

Based on my rough estimate, about 1/6-1/5 of my class came from the med scholars program. Most/all of them tanked the MCAT (for obvious reasons), but many of them are at the top of our class now.

probably a lot

US news says that basically every in state resident that was interviewed, was accepted (this includes people who did not matriculate)..

Not all Missouri interviewees came from this program, so looking at the numbers that way will not give you an accurate count on the number of students from the med scholars program..

Lastly, SLU also has a Scholars Program with Drury College, Spring Hill College, and Rockhurst College, although far few students are in this program

glad to hear that you're doing well and have an interview. 🙂

Are you saying that when you applied last year, you were a rising senior but you hadn't yet taken Physics I & II nor Orgo I & II (plus the other ones mentioned)?? Were you late in deciding to applying to med school?

How had you scored on the MCAT without having taking Orgo yet?

Non-traditional student. I had a BS in Health Science and an MHA, but hadn't finished most of the pre-requisites. I applied knowing that I would be taking those courses before school would start, but had not yet taken them.

I got a 32R on the MCAT. Since taking the MCAT I've taken Org 1/2, Physics 1/2, Biochem, Genetics, and Cell Biology.

Duuuuude. You really were the only one... I'm sorry to admit I laughed, and now I feel terribly awful 🙁 Please forgive me for laughing, the odds of that one individual happening to read this thread and catch that were just so improbable I couldn't help myself. I hope you get in this year, and it sounds like you will! And surely you'll let us know 🙂

Hi everyone.

This is my first post to say that I was accepted last Friday afternoon! I'm so excited and really loved this school. Congrats to all of those accepted and best of luck to those still waiting to hear

For reference, I interviewed at the end of November.

Has anyone created or know of a FB group for accepted SLU students? I'm fairly sure I'll be matriculating here next fall

What year are you?

Apparently the med scholars program has become more difficult to be accepted to and has more stringent requirements compared to years past. If this is true, I think we'll see some changes in SLUSOM admissions stats.

Wow, after reading the last two pages I feel like i should just withdraw. I have like no chance as an OOS with comparably low stats 🙁

I tried to create a group, but it won't let me unless I add at least 1 other person 😛 If someone wants to PM me their FB profile, I can friend you and create a group.

🙁 don't feel too bad. SLU is alot more competitive than the MSAR numbers indicate.

Any interview invites this week?

It looks like from last year there were some invites going out until the end of Feb...

Indeed. I just wish I knew beforehand and saved the amcas and secondary fees... Not to mention the plethora of other schools to which I unwittingly applied. Can't complain too much, though, considering my overall outcome.

I'll withdraw later today at work. Good luck to everyone.

Why withdraw? Why not just let it all play out? Is there harm in that?

Anyone who interviewed after Thanksgiving hear back yet?

Upthread someone mentions getting accepted a day or two ago and s/he interviewed at the end of November. Don't know if that was after T-giving or not.

. . .
I guess you're right. Honestly, I'm just so sick and tired of paying inordinate fees for schools to wave carrots (interviews and final decisions) in front of my face for months when they know very well they're either going to reject or assign me to a waitlist position that has no chance of admission.

For instance, last year, I was invited to interview and was rejected, later explained in a Dean's letter on the basis of my MCAT, something they could've rejected me for outright and saved me $100s in fees and travel. I also interviewed fairly early considering my submission date at another school last year and was put so low on the waitlist that I never would've had a chance in the first place. It's simply frustrating, as we all know.

Thankfully this year is a complete 180. This year I'm just admittedly impatient and picking the salt out of last year's wounds. I'll get over it. Venting is nice.

Totally understandable. I've had friends complain that within a couple of hours of submitting supplementals, UChicago rejected them - not likely any human eyes ever glanced at the submission - just an easy income for them.

Not to belittle the pain of throwing away money, but does U Chicago, being very well-endowed, really need your friend's application fee, or is it possible that they just screen based on stats like many others do in a move to avoid wasting their time?

And is it further possible that charging a fee pays for the admissions process?

I believe this was asked in UChicago and Pitt threads. Both of these schools are notoriously fast at selecting students, positively or negatively, for interviews. While they do do it quickly, it was assured that applications are looked at thoroughly and selectively, but that each application does get an AdCom's eyes on it and filtered, even though some applicant's got interviews or rejections within a day of submission. To view an entire application that these students put years into making, especially if you're a practiced reviewer, can only take minutes. I think it dissuades people from thinking they got a thorough review if it goes this quickly, but I appreciate it much more than the schools that are still silent for me. They obviously have reviewed, and decided against, my application. I think it's much fairer to let the students know. I see this justified in applicants that are 'outliers' in stats. If you look at the UChicago or Pitt threads you will see applicants getting swift rejections with 3.8+ 35+, and others with 3.6-3.8 and 30-34 getting quick interviews. How would they ever select these applicants this way unless they review the applications thoroughly (and yes, these are non-URM applicants)?

And of course, the secondary fees do help fund the school. But they lose money on interviewing students. If they interviewed you they were probably looking to see if you were a spectacular "something else" they were looking for that could have overcome the lower MCAT. When they didn't see that, they went for the 'easier' out to reject you because that didn't come out. They say it was your MCAT, because if you had a higher MCAT maybe you wouldn't have needed that "Wow!" factor at the interview. I don't know for sure, that's just speculation. I wish you the best this cycle though, sorry 🙁

Great post. I agree that I'd rather know swiftly than remain silent for months on end, regardless of outcome. I also found your logic in explaining why they would interview someone and reject them based on MCAT enlightening; thank you.

If it had just been "one friend," I'd agree. I've seen a pattern of this, including situations where the people submitted their secondaries past midnight, and the rejections came a few hours later. Not likely any human eyes saw them, therefore no costs-incurred for the "admissions process." Being a well-endowed institution doesn't mean that a school won't resort to things that bring in some extra bucks. Resorting to this to help pay for others' interviews is #$%^&**

As for "screening based on stats," that should occur pre-secondary. A person's stats aren't likely to change between app and secondary.

Same here. Hindsight is 20/20 though. We're in, we'll be doctors, and we don't have to reapply 🙂

Exactly ~ the Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda game that's been playing in our heads since we submitted our apps can be put away...forever! 🙂
