II today! Complete 7/29, 3.7+ GPA, 36+ MCAT

II this morning! Complete 7/24 3.9 GPA and 30 MCAT! I've never been to Boston, but heard only good things! 😀

did anyone who did not write the optional essay get an interview invite? if so, please post gpa and mcat

Thanks!

Quick question...my AMCAS application was verified about a week ago, but the letters of recommendation haven't shown up in BU's application yet. Does anybody know whether I should just submit my secondary now...or send a message to them?

Any suggestions for what to write for optional essay? Im really stuck on this one!

Anddddddddd REJECTION. Bummer, I really liked them. Oh well, at least they don't string you along!

I agree...silent rejections seem painful and cruel. What were your stats and when were you complete?

I'm sorry to hear that! Did you hear by email?
Yes an email that I guess technically was a notification that my status online had changed, but also in the email was the full text about your rejected and we get so many applicants and we're sure you're qualified and blah blah

I'm sorry to hear that... Best of luck with the rest of your schools!!

Also got an interview today! It's my first one AND I am really excited about BU. MCAT high 30's, GPA okay, complete 7/30 and updated my application on Friday.

Interview invite today! 3.7/37, complete about three weeks ago. That makes three so far, with no outright rejections (although I've likely gotten some silent rejections already). Even if BU doesn't accept me, I'm still excited to get up to Boston and see the city.

they passed over my completion date (7/28) 🙁 based off last year's thread, that means i'll probably get a rejection notice soon lol

That must mean awful things for me, then... I was complete 7/3 :scared:

However, I'm not going to worry about it until they completely reject me. I have low stats, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had me on the bottom of the pile to possibly revisit later (if they do such a thing). :xf:

What is your basis for saying this? It is my impression that one can not simply assume that a school passing over one's completion date implies rejection.

At most schools you can't make that assumption, but BU usually sends II's in a linear progression and rejects people they pass over a few weeks later. I recall last year a lot of high stats people getting interviews after they were initially passed, but it was more the exception than the rule.

What are you including in your update letter if you don't mind my asking?

I had a recent publication, started volunteering again at the homeless shelter I volunteered at for a year during undergrad, and I started work as a Clinical Assistant in a pediatric clinic. I said on AMCAS that I had been hired as a clinical assistant (just listed job responsibilities), but I wasn't able to actually talk about the experience. The job has been really awesome...I get to take patient histories and even have the independence to order urine analysis labs or do a strep test on the patient if I think the doctor will want it.

I think I might send this letter to most schools just because it is a substantial amount of information that has changed since my AMCAS submission.

Same here. Maybe I will send off my update letter.

I will actually be going to the east coast for a different interview. Does anyone know how receptive BU is to "in the area" emails? My app was completed on like 7/8, so obviously I was "passed over". But do you guys think sending an "in the area" email will get me a quicker answer? I don't mind if it's a II or a rejection, I just want to get a more definite answer earlier!

I've always heard not to send anything until you get an II. If I was in your situation, I would hold tight. Being passed over doesn't mean much. Boston also invited me to interview in November, so you may not be in the area during the timeframe when they would wan you to interview. That being said...I probably know as much about this process as you.

I'm not sure about BU specifically, but if you're traveling cross country (or fairly far) for the other interview on the east coast, most schools will try to work with you I've heard. I'm sure someone can chime in that has actually done this.

I think that advice not to send anything until II is usually regarding updates or letters of interest (which I think should be post-interview, pre-decision).

Yah. because I am already making two cross-country flights from the west coast to the east coast: once in september and once in october for two different interviews. I'd really love to schedule as many interviews as I can (if given the opportunity to interview of course) together so I can minimize the cost and travel.

I'd try to search in last year's thread and see if anyone comments on trying this. Usually I believe people either email the generic admissions email and describe that you'll be in the area around those two times and are looking to minimize your traveling! Good luck!

If adcoms are humans (let alone empathetic doctor humans) they should understand.

Finally complete. A week ago they put me on hold because there were no signatures on my LORs. My letter writers said they used the Interfolio digital signature tool...so I emailed BU and they removed the hold for me. Hoping for an interview, as I like the school and it's just down the road from me,

Interview invite today! Yippie! I lived in Boston for 2 years for work ... Would love to move back again. I am obsessed with this city: so many great minds all condensed in one place!

Complete: 7/30/13
MCAT: 33
GPA: 3.65
Kicker: heavy research, multiple pubs!

Good luck to all those still waiting, this is a wild ride!

Is anyone else scheduled to interview on November 22? PM me, I would love to meet some fellow SDNers (and possible classmates)!

Best,
C

Well, rejection from BU. This one is a bummer just because I literally live down the street from campus.

Complete 7/6/2013
MCAT: 29
GPA: 3.53
Heavy clinical research (been working at one of the hospitals in Boston for the last 2 years)

Rejection! I feel the same.
Higher MCAT, lower GPA.

I've been doing clinical research at a nearby University for the last 2 years. Oh well -- at least I wasn't banking on them too much. Let's hope one of those other schools in Boston likes me better 🙂

When were you complete? I have a 31 and 3.89 and was complete 7/18 so I am getting nervous now.

I'm sorry to hear about the rejection. Would you mind sharing when you were complete here?
