2014-2015 Duke University Application Thread

Rejected pre-interview 🙁 Ah well. Can't win em all. Good luck to everyone still in the running!

When I log into my account, it just says "Application Screening - Your supplemental application has been completed. Your application is now being reviewed by a set of independent screeners on our admissions committee."

Does this status change during the process? Like does it ever just say anything to the effect of "your application has been reviewed" OR does the status only change when you are rejected or invited for interview?

+1, and wondering the same…

I don't think it changes, as mine went directly from "is now being reviewed" to "declined". Good luck all!

Aren't all the interview spots filled by now? Are they just slowly sending out rejections now?

I hear this is where the cult of the penguin started.

I am the the vanquisher of penguins deemed unworthy, destroyer of worlds.

I will hunt you, awake or asleep. I am the killer penguin.

Fear my wrath.

I thought early March. Where did late February or the last Monday come from? Just wondering. This is what the post-interview status says in the online portal:

Application Status: Application Complete - Your application process is now complete and your application has been forwarded to our admissions committee. We anticipate distribution of admission decisions to occur some time in early March 2014. This year, all admission decisions will be distributed electronically- via email (applicants offered admission, applicants offered a wait list position, and applicants who will not be offered admission). Decisions will be sent to the email address we have on file in your Duke Med Application Account. DECISIONS WILL NOT BE GIVEN OVER THE TELEPHONE (this policy is in place to protect your privacy).

IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO UPDATE BOTH YOUR U.S. POSTAL ADDRESS AND YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS (we also recommend that you update or disable your email spam filters or provide an alternate email address in the event your college or university has implemented spam filters in the event your emails are being sent to a college or university email address). IF WE SEND ANY INFORMATION VIA THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE, PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE APARTMENT NUMBERS IN THE EVENT YOU ARE UPDATING YOUR MAILING ADDRESS.

But it also says "March 2014," so the status seems like just a copy/paste from last year or an accidental typo.

I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that decisions would be released at the end of February.
Please, Duke.
Please.

I'm also still awaiting a II. I emailed the dean of admissions the other day asking about their policy on update letters. She responded pretty quickly explaining they don't allow update letters unless an extreme circumstance arises and makes the update necessary. She also added that they anticipate extending invitations to interview for the few remaining spots in February by January 15th...which is today.

That is only slightly terrifying hahaha has anyone received II today? Maybe they are still to come this afternoon! Here is to hopelessly hoping.....

I'm neurotically checking my email and my phone every few minutes. I would give ANYTHING to have a chance to interview here. Come on Duke!!!!

Oh my lord, seriously?? I wanted to ask about the update letters, thanks for that. And then now the wait begins... If anything, they should update the "Application Screening" status today, at least put us out of our misery lol

Do you know if the same policy applies to update letters post-interview?

On interview day they told us that they accept post-interview updates but they need to be sent very quickly because your file goes to the committee for a decision a week or two after your interview date.

Okay thanks! I didn't know they made decisions that quickly. I interviewed in September so I'm assuming an update at this point won't do me a lot of good then...

They stated they don't have a backlog of applicants to evaluate, so they should be able to get acceptances out by that week. Take that for what it's worth because you never know in this process!

Can anyone say approximately when their interview day ended? I'll be interviewing here this week and am hoping to coordinate transportation back to the airport after!

We were dismissed at 3:30. The airport is about 25 minutes away from campus. Uber or lyft is inexpensive and works well. Good luck!

Well, I'm sort of relieved that something happened...

I got rejected pre-interview. It was fun while it lasted haha. Good luck to the rest of you!

Sorry about the recent rejection… 🙁 Do you mind sharing your complete date? I'm sure I'm up next lol

No problem lol, I was complete around late August, I would say.

@sunflower18, you can't win them all, but you have certainly won MOST! Probably can be considered a blessing not have yet ANOTHER excellent school begging you to attend--complicates the decision! Congratulations on all your awesome acceptances! :claps:

Last interviews are going out this week. I was just told that and figured I'd share.

Totally! I use Airbnb when I had to stay longer--sometimes the student host is required to only host 1 night. I usually try to spend at least 2-3 days to get to know the city or town.

Must be nice to have that much time.

Oh boy, that's nerve-wracking. It's now or never, Duke! COME ON!!!!!

Thanks for letting us know. . .the bad news. Well, I kinda knew already.

So I interviewed here last week, but for some reason I thought that they were going to email us the survey and I didn't realize that it was in our application portal. Apparently, your application isn't sent to committee until the survey is completed. Do you know if it is frowned upon if you take too long to complete the survey? Does it really delay your application going to committee? I'm like kinda freaking out :/

I don't think one week is going to be the end of your application. Just my two cents.

Hey yall--just interviewed at Duke today and I've never had an MMI before. Is it good etiquette to write a thank you note to somebody when you attend one? If so, who might you suggest directing it to?
